This is a continuation of this thread http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/163092-and-then-i-saw-this/ but since im building a off road set up i figured i would move the thread here the first stage is new radiose arms im shooting for 2ft long and pushing the wheel forward 1" while adding some adjustabuility to it i picked up some 3/4x3/4 hiem joints and i had some nice heavy pipe the right size and some plate steal to play with First i boogered the sheet metal back on and since its only the tranny mount now it should be fine i am gone reinforce the block though just for the hell of it theres a nice channel for the new rod to sit in theres even a cut in the frame that looks like it was made for it i took some 2x1 tube ans sandwiched the frame rails and cut a plate to weld to it and bolt in to the rear crossmeber bolt holes i also plan to tie it all in to the sliders so it will have plenty of reinforcement it should take alot of the load off the firewall to so the body dosent bend in half lol

Failed Emissions, No idea where to start!
ferp420 replied to Acheeze's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
With the engine off open the throtle kinda fast and look for the squirt skishop did a great job explaining step 2 so if the in gas carb cleaner dosent work and your not getting straight streams of gas or big drops of gas from anywere then mess with the idle air screw and make sure all your emissions equipment is there and if your gona plug a vacume port do it in a way that its hidden out of site smog people dont like seeing that -
Well isht yo that ducks more pics would be awsome

Are you planing on returning them or are you stuck with them i was wondering what there like inside and if the clips on the shaft are accesable

Im not seeing the accelerator pump squirting am i just missing it or something the spray pattern looks kinda random at first but it seemed to cleen up a bit by the end of the video -
I Would guess someone already makes them for another car but i have no idea what car to look at i wonder if the splines match the older style and if the cups could be swaped its that telescoping shaft that is what im after

You very well could have a clogged jet that is spraying a stream of fuel instead of a mist of fuel and the fuel is not burning all the way try some heavy duty carb cleaner in your fuel tank also take the air cleaner off look down the carb and move the throtle make sure theres a nice spray pattern from the accelerator jet it will be the only one you can see when the car isent running the main jet you can only see at wide open throtle with engine running the accelorator jet pick up is usaly on the botom of the carb and is first to pick up contaminates in the float boal and wold cause some stumbeling while trying to accelerate the unburnt fuel will cause it to fail the emissions my guess is a cloged jet somewere and some good fuel cleaner should fix it its a start anyway you could get video of the carb spray pattern if your not sure what to look for so some one who knows more can see whats happening another trick is to tighten and then lossen the idle mixture screw some times they get build up and cause problems but thats a delicate procidure and has to be returned exsactly were it was -
Are you running ea82 axles on a ea81 maybe there compressed to far as the ea81 is narrower than a ea82 over compression will cause binding like that just a guess i havent had a ea81 in 15 years or so

I Would love to see pictures your problem is different than what i had sounds like yours dident come with any greese mine the cage exploded on the highway the inside was cv joint soup the cage broke in to little pieces and the balls where rattleing around inside as it went down th3 road lol it was greased but so many of the new axles ive bought dident have a drop of greese in them

long travel Outbacks or making Subarus faster and more reliable offroad
ferp420 replied to pontoontodd's topic in Off Road
What are you doing about the body bending are those strut braces going to tie in to some kind of sub frame or something your heavyer now so everyth8ng is gonna be more streesed like bolts bearings and the body -
Did you check to see if the axles were hitting the crossmeber mine did was it the inner joint that blew or the outer mine the inner failed in just a few hundread miles but it was hitting the crossmeber and blew up the inner cup i droped my crossmeber another 1/2" to fix the problem but i have other issues to fix befor i can see if the spacers worked or not.

Hiem joints are in i just cant see repairing it i have to upgrade lol at least now i can put the wheels where i want them

ferp420 replied to wagons's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If i cant build it my self i cant aford it that being sead im looking at cheap used rebuildable shocks and using the basic idea behind what another member on here has done (pontoontod dude) and adapt his idea to work on the ea82 platform my goal is to build my entire suspention for less than $200 front and rear -
Hows this build is it a hot rod yet lol

ferp420 replied to wagons's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Not even close to matching a side by side the aproch angle sucks as dose th3 departure angle the break over is ok with a 4" lift but its not great with a side by side your aftermarked options are endless with th3 roo you have to make almost everything your self the side by side is about half the waight of the roo and were designed to be used off road the roo is heavy comparitivly and was a through away econo box designed for back roads on the up side you cant make ice runs in the side by side or sleep in the back of the side by side ive been working on the longer controle arms and longer traval struts but the issue im running in to is the exhaust is in the way theres no room left to mount the controle arms anywere else and if the stock location is used it would make the car very wide any kind of long traval is gona require complete custom struts these arent the standerd type struts so theres nothing off the self that bolts on as far as springs go the ford tempo springs work and give a extra lift around 2" but they seem to be saging very bad after some abuse basicly if you have the fab skills skys the limit but if not your kinda stuck however the kyb struts made for this car are very good compromize and have always had a good rep in the off road world think baja bug and ive found nissan 300zx front struts work on the back and have a 5/8" vs 1/2" stock shaft and 6" of traval with honda springs your looking at around 3-4" of lift there are options but nothing to make it capable as a side.by side still alot of fun -

If you google min tire size for a 15x9 rim it comes up with alot of tire sizes one being a 235x70x15 its around 28" and fits that rim i have a set of 15x7s off of a rodeo but im not sure i want to get rid of them just yet
