  1. Some day video from inside the car I never did make it back out to the heavy stuff to get pics or Vids
  2. Well that was fun I'm back in the bay area the night wheelin was fun I was leaving the jeeps in the dust in the woops we hit a wash big enuff to hide a jeep in it was about 20ft deep and about a 45° angle with a 2 foot straight cut sides my bummper was barried in the sand little loyale climbed right out of it only one of the jeeps got.stuck for a second that little ea82 was pulling hard I was making hills I couldn't even come close to on my last trip and having peddle to spare I found myself lugging it around everywhere and it was loving it and being able to spin the tires at will was nice to I never made it to the rock trails I had to much other stuff going on I got some video out at night and some stuff in the gully's I got the jeeps coming through the wash its not much to see though I'll post a link as soon as I get to wifi
  3. Off for a night of wheelin with a group of jeep guys oh ya
  4. I dont know the coarse they run these days its been 30 some odd years since I've been any were neer that race but Non of your video are any thing like what we have going on out here and seeing and reading the points your struggleing with are mostly what your gona find out here I'll get some pics and video of what's out here I'm not saying you can't make it or shouldn't try it just run it first and see what your getting in to 400 miles is a long run off road in one of the harshest environments on earth in my opinion you are not set up to race out here and with out a low range the hills will eat you bring spare clutch disks it really comes down to the coarse they run it might not be to bad if its more of a rally then you would be fine but if its across open desert well I have herd a story about a roo finishing the Baja 1000 but there's a reason subarus aren't out there
  5. That vagas to reno race would be brutal in that rig the woops alone would beat the ever living isht out of you and your car im dragging my belly on the tops of the woops with 5" lift and 30" tires last week one woop caught me off gard and blew the spring purch clean off the shock out in the middle of the desert and I wasent racing just exploring you might want to do a little prerunning out here before you try to race the terrain in the Cali Nevada arizona desert Isent like any were else in the world I'm not saying you can't or shouldn't just know what your getting in to I've been through a lot of the area out there in a outback its fun but the desert is.hard on rigs one bad bounce and your car is folded in half ask me how I know and there's no flat towing after that your trailer /junkyard bound so just check it out before you try racing through the area
  6. Port the heads and open up the exhaust alot all that air and fuel have to have somewhere to go And then you have to burn all that extra air and fuel so a ignition upgrade would be needed Maybe give the air and fuel more time to mix before hitting the botom of the plenum by using a thicker carb spacer would help the factory spent a lot of time and money getting things right they have people who do nothing but study this stuff the problem with that is we want more MORE bigger stronger faster in order to get more you have to redesign the entire system not just the intake if the ports in the head can't take flow then how can it suck in all the extra fuel if the exhaust is the same size how will it get the extra burnt gasses out of the motor I personally I'm not smart enuff to redesign the system but I did study how other people did it on rubies and other motors to come up with what I have now I added 1" spacers between the head and the manifold and another 1" under my throttle body full port job on my heads and I opened up the exhaust a little and upgraded my ignition system I am still using the spfi system though and have no real flat spots I gained about 20% more power but it was as a system using proven methods not just changing one or 2 parts in the system I've seen guys run 4 barrels on Volkswagen's so I know it can be done just have to match the flow on the rest of the systems or use a sensible progressive carb like most people already do Personally judging by the quality of your work I would love to see you go hog wild on this thing I mean come on let's see some porting and polishing and some sweet custom exhaust work to match
  7. I ended up using a high lift jack and wedged the other end in between the tubes on my rear bumper to compress the spring and then sloped the tube over the strut then hammered the ends if the pipe so it punched the botom of the strut all and all I lost about a 1/2" of lift I got the struts used off of craigslist for $20 and had to fug them alittle when I put them in so its not a big deal to replace them
  8. Almost forgot link to intake build tread http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/150643-intake-and-throtle-body-spacers/
  9. I can't upload video till I get to a WiFi spot and besides they never come out good from inside the car but I'll take some anyway
  10. Basicly I started with removing the ishty stock intake under the fender and made a true 3" intake snorkel then i took a stock intake manifold and opend it up alittle then made 1 inch spacers to go between the manifold and the head and then a spacer between the manifold and the throttle body I took the swirls out of the intake and ruffed it up a bit and made it a tumbler it adds more turbulence witch keeps the fuel air mixture in better suspension at low rpms and also creates a narrowing affect at higher flown rates so the air moves faster through the intake at higher rpms I also port matched all the openings the best I could i have no idea what this would do on a stock engine it but in combo with ported heads and custom exhaust the procomp ignition those realy exspensive spark plugs and intake snorkel it all gives me about a 20% increase in over all power it almost makes up for the bigger tires the loyale itself is.holding up good I've layer it on its side in a v notched hill climb ive wedged it between rocks sank it in mud bounced it off of trees rocks fences cargo boxes and other cars i work the snot out of this rig and was driving it daily and will be again I don't think there's a straight piece of steel left on the rig
  11. The woops are really bad this year and the sand is wet so there hard and dug out and there's a lot of standing water out there the races should be interesting this year to say the least
  12. I got the welded diff installed and got the motor to quit down a bit got it out In the thick of it and hit a woop to hard to fast and blew the spring perch off if one of the rear struts after a mile or so of limping the car through the desert I stopped and I had a old piston out of something and it fit nicely around the lower bump stop and was thick enuff that to keep the tire from rubbing so I still had to limp but I wasent rubing anymore and made it back to the house with out further issues I figure I can sleave it and keep running it the perch keepers on the strut are no more so I'll have to replace the strut to do it right but for now I'll make do
  13. If you get a small bolt and drill a hole next to the rod on your visor you can use 2 washers or something to clamp the visors down just don't over tighten them or you will bend the inside of the visor I've even gone as far as using wood panalung mounted to the factory brackets with them clamped like that they work great for off road or any older rigs

    SPFI Snorkel

Not useless the stock intake snorkle or water seperator or what ever they call it sucks real bad it only had a 1.5 inch opening g and snakes around under the fender when these rigs are lifted and the plastic gets removed even a small puddle can get the air filter wet so the snorkle dose 2 things increases intake air flow and keeps the rain and puddles from sogging out the air filter both of witch are a big deal at one time I did seal the ignition as well but quickly found the car itself leaks like a sive if I'm deep enuff to worry about the ignition swamping out I'm already swimming inside the car so I try to avoid swimming inside of the car but I do hit some big puddles now and then that are big enuff to swallow the car I just hit them hard and fast and I stay dry
  15. One of the mobile homes on the property in the back ground the other one is better but nothing is safe from the desert rats
