I love my welded diff I hardly ever get the chance to run it though I swap it out for my LSD for street use so I can still puddle jump and play in the mud around town I think my lower end is giving out though so I think its street use is gona be very limited till I swap in something else it sounded like isht today when I got back from the store the suspension on the other hand rocked I was hiting 45 mphs at times flying over washes and ditches and small whoops I did take the winch off its gona ride on the floorboard in the passenger seat while I'm not using it or if I can mount it somewhere in the back behind the seat i think that would work better for wait balence i just have to keep it from bouncing around some how I have a bracket back home so I'll install it when I get back but for now I think I'll just strap it in some how other than the winch jack and shoval I'm running it as light as I can I'm hoping it holds out till I get back home

Well the LSD failed miserably on the long rocky hill climbs it works good for puddle jumping and efin around but its not up to rocky hill climbs its locked diff time the winch is just too heavy to keep on the front it made for some ruff woops sections it doesn't help that the woops are as big as the car I spent most of the day in 2wd even in the dunesit was fun tomarows another day

stripped 10mm valve cover bolt?
ferp420 replied to firstsubi's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I agree with the previous post you may need to get a new can tower I thought I had a stripped hole it turned out that the entire boss broke off from over tightening and left aluminum chunks in the motor there is no way to fix it pull the valve cover all the way off check it if there's any chunks pull them out you can use silicone rtv sealent to seal the hole and the valve cover till you get a new can tower its not a fun or simple repair if it is the can tower but its not hard to do -
I got the tires on and the bumper patched up loaded the whole efin mess in the truck tossed little blue on the trailer I had 430 miles of smooth towing looked back to see stuff flying around behind the rig and pulled over one of the trailer tires disintigrated with only 20 miles to go the spare was off my old mercury meteor and the center hole was to small so I had to unpack the truck get my gear out and opened up the center hole on the side of the road packed it all back up and made it to the house im hoping to get out and explore a little today I'm gona run the LSD rear for a while see how it likes the sand I might play in the rocks a little to before I through the welded rear in im gona save the ruff wheelin for after the event I didn't bring a lot of spare parts but after that its on

Loyale Rambln Wagon Build
ferp420 replied to coolhandluke's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sweet rig When I got my loyale the check engine light was wired in to the alternator light it came that way from a shaddy dealer in Hayward i just figured why mess with a good thing I.didn't get any codes from doing my d/r swap but I did when I swaped in my custom intake but hay my cel on the dash doesn't show anything as long as the alternator is working lol I've smoged it 3,times like that no issues I didn't do it it came that way but the hell if I'm gona change it now -
2 Inch Lift now 4wd Light Comes On
ferp420 replied to Tye's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Check your motor and tranny mounts and pitch stopper bushings to if you added bigger tires it can put more touque on those mounts while accelerating and the trans moves around causing the lever to move enuff to set off the light even shift in to 4wd -
Any one going this year I'm dragging my loyale down again this year last year in the forester sucked this year is different for me though instead of runing around trying to get my car together I'm gona run it as is I'm Gona trailer it down throw all my spare parts in the truck and repair as needed and spend my time working on my house right on the edge of the park by soggy lake I can almost see the northern most hammer trails from the house the property touches the park on 3 sides so I can go wheelin right out my front door Im stoke on the loyale for this year with all the porting and custom intake manifold and free flowing exuast the thing is running like a mad dog right now and I've got some new all terains for it and a 2ft light bar It should be fun out there I just have to patch the front bumper I over loaded my trailer and was moving it over logs boards and bumpers and other car parts and I bent the reciver part all up aperently my bumper couldn't handle the 2000lb tongue wait of the unbalanced car hauler being forced over 6x6s it held but it just makes me wounded if its strong enuff for the big winch if I get pinched in somewhere and have to winch at a wiered angle so I'm Gona add some gussets and a safety chain to it just in case and try not to move any more unballenced loaded car trailers and see how it goes my only prep this year is a tire change and a bumper repair Should only be a days work which is good because I only have a few more free days before I leave

I had a similer problem I found a chunk of silicone blocking the oil port in the head that feeds the can tower it dosent take much to block thoses oil ports But the cam never siezed or did any damage to anything you might have a bigger problem I would check for oil presure maybe put a bolt in the hole where the oil is coming out and re spin the oil pump see if it changes anything also look at the tick of death threads theres a lot of info on the oiling system and there's a lot of little stuff that can go wrong

wheel bearing stuck on axle
ferp420 replied to Rocketdog's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
In had that happen once the bearing is still on the axle and funny enuff i still have the axle and bearing we were replacing the axle but ended up putting a spare hub with good bearings in it with the new axle I didn't trust the old hub seeing as how the bearing came out in one piece i figured the hub was wore out and i didn't want to even try to save the old bearing- 9 replies

No you don't need any fancy parts just pull your fender off pull the stock snorkle and squise some 3" pipe into the air box glue it in and route your tubing Its simple just don't over think it the stock set up sucks so all you can do is improve it I used 3" aluminum downspout gutter Pipe and some elbows and a lot of silicone I wouldn't. Take it under water but it keeps my air filter is dry

i do rub just a little in reverse under full lock it hits the unibody in front of the wheels just slightly there is enuff room to get my hand in between the tire and spring purch i did use the BFH in a few spots but mostly just to smooth the inside of the wheel well i also cut the isht out of my fendes i ran these tires when i had my 2" lift on also adding another 3" of lift dident seem to change a thing as far as the rubbing goes still hits the same place

Wideband O2 sensor and controller
ferp420 replied to maozebong's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i am very inteested in this i was gona rewire my o2 sensor to a volt meter ive pumped my ea82 to the point that something isent keeping up it kicks but when its cold but when its hot it seems it looses some punch im woundering if the computer is trying to lean out the mix or something this mod would totaly help and a more responsive 02sensor might help solve my problem in its self -
my 235/75/15 goodyear wranglers are around 29.5 235/70/15 on my car right now are about 29" ive run 225/75/15 on a 8" wide rim with no issues only problem you might have is when aired down it would be slightly easyer to pop a bead and or ding the rim

coils can be intermtent they rearly just stop working also i dont know if the ea81 uses 12v at the coil or if it uses a resistor but that if it needs a resistor and has 12v it will act like that to i had that problem in my scout for a while till i figured it out and switched to a procomp ignition the coil would work great and then it would sputter and die let it cool and then would fire up and run good for a bit again and besides there cheap and easy to change
