  1. Snow White's crazy for corners......still have to install rear arms for its sway bar....bad bearing, RXs bearings not cheap...... but oh my, what a difference w/ the KYBs............and real seats. shanonsf
  2. oh what to do I'll keep ya'll posted, contemplating what to do with a stash of parts :eh: after putting on the suspension, seats, and brakes...WOW! craving power et al....... shanonsf 82 GLW Snow White (lotsa mods)
  3. OK, what if ya got both...... I have a 4 spd, D/R works flawslessly......(82 GLW) If i need SUPER traction I throw the luv lever..50/50 split right?..schwing!! the puzzle.... I also have a 5spd, full time 4wd w/ ctr locker (from 87+ RX) and it's 3.7 LSD..........sitting on the shelf (along w/ all the custom bits to make it fit my wagon = drive line and axles..) why would I want to put the conversion in......... I need convincing that it's actually better (relaible?) trying to learn here too before I go thru the transplant hassle only to wish I didn't thx shanonsf 82 GLW (lots of mods )
  4. heading to Monterey?? there was a very clean complete 87 GL-10 Turbo Touring Wagon (minus the imaculate front seats:brow: worth the install hastle, comfy, nice bolsturingfor the corners) a couple of sad ea81 wagons, (minus brakes ...ha ha) mostly EA82 stuff......................at least in mid Sept..... this buzzard already flew in & got lucky.... shanonsf
  5. ok fellas, since we are the topic. I got an EA81T, 5spd D/R w/ ctr locker, and a 3.7 all waiting on the bench for motivation & answers. is the 3.9 quicker/better than the 3.7? why? is the 5 spd D/R w/ ctr lock more trouble (reliable?) than the effort? I ask because I live in San Francisco, and gas is brutal and I got 4wd D/R if I need extra traction................everything is paved anyway. Would the current 4wd system be enough for rallyX since i'ts on dirt/grass anyway??? plus easy to find when blown.. trying to figure out if I should complete my RX-ification or :brolleye: BTW- the KYB, sway bars, vented frt disc & rear disc conversion was worth it, so were the touring wagon seats:headbang: rally on- shanonsf 82 GLW Snow White
  6. hey Russ, I'll be passing thru San Jose tomorrow EARLY, then back Mon/Tues. I have/am mounting a Long A style (EA81) this weekend Leave note hear if you like to hook up am on my way back. I am RX 'n' my wagon this weekend........we should definitely hook up. I may have some spare parts of interest ...... shanonsf 82 GLW (being manipulated)
  7. Hey all, gettin' ready to "RX"ify my wagon this weekend and noticed the rear stub axle and outer bearring are shucking/sliding (lotta play) in wheel housing.... can this be pressed back in by a mortal or is this a 'shop' thing. let me know ASAP so I can decide how far to dismantle my rig this weekend for brake and shock conversion..... soon, it will be done, soon....so close shanonsf 82 glw (being manipulated )
  8. hey all, good to hook up w/ everyone and meet MendoD- cool rig BTW, I haven't done Goecaching but i did an Adventure Rally that was a GPS navigation race thru Northern AZ + Grand Canyon in snow. Sube was down so did it in the SUV........very fun stuff. count me in, got a Magellan in the glove box plus software for the lap top..........great fun!! count me in:banana: rally on shanonsf (go petter!)
  9. hey put this post on Flowmasters & Baccarudas post lost it, one of 'em got a 98 rs recently thx shanonsf
  10. yep that's what I'm starting to think too. want to rally, not wrench.......... shanonsf
  11. i don't know Brian...... having the $$ to do things WITH them as opposed to putting $$ IN them are two different things........ finishing one or two COMPLETELY is better than 3 piles sucking $$ all the time, strip the GL wagon's good bits and sell it, then think about other projects, especially if space is an issue just my two cents.. shanonsf I'll call you about Wed.............looking for rotors too
  12. ha just a rig that don't need much tampering, but if you want, it does have alot of aftermarket support.......unlike our 80s stuff.... been starting to watch the prices on those........... rally on shanonsf 82 GLW
  13. hey all- what would you do put in a EA81 Turbo (on stand, but needs some trouble shooting including all necessary bits) or slap a Weber and maybe a trick manifold from one of the aircraft guys............ looking for most realiable power to fun ratio with least amount of grief hhhmmmmm:brolleye: shanonsf 82 GLW as yes, once power plant is sorted, i do have a 5 spd D/R w/ ctr dif and the LSD.............
  14. hey all if anyone every makes a roll cage for an EA81 body style please post info looking into it for Stage Rally specs.......that's if i can run vintage/historic class........Club Rally as something about a 20 year rule.....Snow White's 21 now shanonsf 82 GLW rallywagon
  15. here is the parts changed list rebuilt carb- Roo builders reman'd intake manifold- Ram Performace new CAT- muffler shop thermostatic air cleaner - donor car new O2 sensors (2), pcv valve, fuel filters, air cleaner Kragen one can sayb the the top half of the motor is new
  16. hey all- Snow White (82 GLW) has won the CA emmissions war!! Now has emmissions of a New Car!! results= idle HC 120 Max, meas - 9 . CO max 1.5, meas - 0.00 2500 HC150 max, meas - 6. CO max1.5, meas- 0.00 sweet!! thx everyone, you know who you are!! and now to begin the mods.. rallyX here i come:headbang: -shanonsf
  17. I have had it unbolted recently to mess with the EGR passage. So I think it'll come off clean, good tip about the anti seize this time I have to disconnect/reconnect alot of unfamiliar stuff (intimitading) and swap the fresh carb i recently installed etc........ I'll keep ya posted & thx shanonsf
  18. hey all, about to install a fresh intake manifold on my EA81.. any tips, do's & dont's,and warnings appreciated shanonsf 82 GLW
  19. lot's of ideas here, all lean toward keeping the stock Y-pipe to the cat and then whatever back. currently I have a 1.75" pipe from the cat back into a turbo muffler. noticed a difference in pick-up and of course tone, a sweet rumble. was curious if more could be done by ditching the cat and intersection but doesn't sound reccomended. I'm looking for low and mid range torque/power. thx all shanonsf 82 GLW
  20. just for kicks, has anyone ever done straight pipes from the heads to the rear or sides?, no cat, no H......maybe a cherry bomb on each side or not?? would it work or mess things up? just curoius for a possible special day set up rally on shanonsf
  21. hey SubaRube, I noticed your in the Bay Area, then make a trip up to Albany Driveline (in Albany). they make a quality rebuild along with custom 4wd stuff with a quarantee nice folks too. There into rock crawling/4wd stuff and do stuff right. Fair prices too. A few of us NorCals have been using them with satifaction, they are actually heavier than stock ones w/ much nicer boots = more material good. shanonsf 82 GLW
  22. I 'acquired' a crazy scientist's (formerly wrx1ab) project in which he put a EA81t, 5spd d/r w locking dif, custom drive & axle shafts, 3.7 LSD, rear sway bars, full disc brakes, KYBs all around in to 81 DL.........it was crazy when it ran. car was a peice except for 'gathered' parts collection in which all are a straight bolt into my 82 GLW....once the EA81T & is trouble shooted (pulling water into pistons, we think its the intake manifold) My freshly painted 82 GLW has been embroiled is crazy emissions war in which has sucked all my time and resources to keep legal in order to do 'the manipulation'....everything is sitting on the shelf 'waiting'.. When manipulation takes place...it will be documented for all to review BTW- He took the trailing arms and the rear sway bar from the doner car (XT6? i think) just have to get my tags first........... shanonsf
  23. ha ha ha, crap..... good thing I only manhandled the one side. Brian if your at the yard Friday, could I order a RIGHT rear EA82 backing plate......and a side of fries...... don't worry about the intake manifold, one's in the mail....arrives tommorrow. thx shanonsf 82 GLW (from hell)
  24. thx Dr RX i think i have EA82s, i may need to find new plates for 'em if they don't survive extraction.......... BTW- how do put the pic in the message??? shanonsf
