  1. Im adjusting valves on DS head because they are really noisy after valve job. Ive got the cam arrows at 6 oclock which is supposed to be position for cylinder #2 valve adjustment. The rocker arm that pushes against those valve is tight on the intake valves but has alot of play on the exhaust valves. I also noticed this when I adjusted the valvles with the head off . Is the rocker arm for exhaust valves supposed to have playat the 6 oclock cam position for cylinder #2 How do I adjust the exhaust valves with play in the rocker arm. I'm missing some logic on this issue. Is is the loose rocker arm causing the clacking sound on DS head?
  2. I just ordered a Mini Master Time Cert kit from Amazon. Got $80 off for signing up for new credit card,so the cost was about the same as buying two helicoill kits. It comes with sixtiy m6, m8. and m10, inserts. There were two m10x1.25 stripped bolt holes on this engine. The second being the timing belt tensioner bolt. I get to learn a new skill with Time Cert.
  3. Did timing belt on ej25 engine. One of the timing idler bolt holes (m10x1.25) is patially stripped. Whats the best solution to repair. Would a thread chaser be worth a try? Whats the best options after thread chaser. Helicoil, Time Cert, tap to next larger size. I know about, but have actually never done any of those methods.
  4. The twisting part is where I'm having problems. I have the engine jacked up from oil pan with floor jack and 2x4 block. Looking for best way to twist engine for access for lower right head bolt. I usually pull the motor to do head gaskets. This car has a bent valve on one head. I really like the idea of trying this without pulling the engine. It would save alot of time if there is an efficient way to do it.
  5. I'm not understanding your sentence highlighted. Could you be more specific with your wording and description.
  6. I have an 03 obw that has been sitting for 16 months. The back hatch door looks closed, however the indicator light in dash is open. The hatch door handle is stuck in the open position. The hatch is closed and wont open. The key seems to be operating the hatchdoor lock correctly. Looking for solution to ge the hatch door open and the hatch door handle unstuck.
  7. Yes with my situation, I have an exta ej22 phase 2 in good condition and low miles.. I know its not better, but its available.
  8. Just bought an 02 Outback with seized engine and automatic trans.. I have a nice ej22 phase 2 engine from automatic trans car. Would the 02 Outbacks ecu be compatable with the ej22 phase 2 engine?
  9. Im getting ready to swap an 2002 ej25 into a 2003 Legacy with no engine. The 03 legacy has an extra connecter that the 02 engine dosn't have. I started calling around local wrecking yards to get an 03 intake manifold for the 02 engine. The wrecking yards data say an 02 ej25 wont work in an 03 Legacy Ive seen the work around on this message board , but not I able to find it. The connecter in question on the 03 is the six prong gray coneccter between the the square white and brown conneters in the picture. I think whats going on is the 02 engine has a map sensor engine . My 03 legacy uses a maf sensor. I think the six pin gray plug is for a maf sensor. If thats true is there a work around to use the 02 map senor engine in an 03 thats looking for a maf sensor?
  10. I was thinking it was maybe a plug for the transmission. My donor engine is out of a 2002 Legacy with automatic trans. The car its going into is a 2003 Legacy with a manual transmission. The O2s are both plugged in. Ive done manual to automatic swaps with ej22s into both automatic and manual 1996 thru 1999 Outbacks with no wiring change. Ive never swappedd an 2002 ej25 out of automatic car into a 2003 Legacy that had an ej25 with manual transmission. Its a six slot connecter with two yellow, one blue/white stirpped, one orang, and two unused
  11. Have 2003 Subaru Legacy ej25 5sp . No engine. Installing a 2002 ej25 automatic engine in it. I know where the to big two big square white and brown connecters go , but can't find a corresponing connecter on the 02 engine for the smaller gray 6 prong connecter in the between the big white and big brown connecters in the picture
  12. One more question. Does just the inside surface of new rear main seal get lubricated, or do the inside and outside surfaces both get lubricated? On the front cam and crank seals, it just the inside surface of the seals that need lubrication. The outsisde suface stays dry during installation.
  13. I have that Lisle seal puller. It woks great on the front crank and cam seals. Ive never seen a rear main seal leak . Thanks for the rear main seal procedure.
  14. I have a wrecking yard ej25. Redid the head gaskets and a timing belt kit. Noticed the rear main seal was leaking, and have never replaced one. I'm looking for the best method of replacing it.
  15. Hi Sooberoo, That sounds too easy, but a great idea. When the valves are all closed the pistons can be rotated to the top for each cylinder to be leak tested. Just never thought of that. Always too worried about piston and valves making contact.
  16. Is there an accurate method of doing leak down test with timing belt off for ej 22 and 25 engines. Can youu have all pistons at mid stroke and rotate the cam by the 17mm cam bolt, or will the air pressure from leak down tester push the piston down. Is doing a leak down test with pistons at mid stroke and 100psi in the tester going to give accurate results.
  17. Great, that is exactly what I was looking for. I'd also like to find a good quality pdf/cd factory service manual for the variuos Subarus Ive been working on. I bought a few bad ones on ebay and I dont really like the AllData manuals.
  18. Im looking for an image of the piston position mark arrows on the cam pulleys for ej22 and ej25. I need to understand the direction the arrows are pointing at tdc of compression stroke for each cylinder. I'm working on a better cylinder leak down test procedure.
  19. Im looking for an image of the piston position mark arrows on the cam pulleys for ej22 and ej25. I need to understand the direction the arrows are pointing at tdc of compression stroke for each cylinder. I'm working on a better cylinder leak down test procedure.
  20. When relacing cam seals on ej22, can the new seals be driven in too far. I always install them flush with the head. On last engine the were driven past flush and now one is leaking. Their the good Subaru cam seals.
  21. Looking for the most efficient setup for doing valve removal and installation on mainly Subaru Ej22 and Ej25 heads . Ideally I would like an attachment to a floor or bench top press. What do you seasoned veterans use?
  22. Thanks for catching my error. My thread checker dosn't have an M11 size. Something didnt feel right when I had the head bolt in M12x1.25 thread checker. Whats the thread pitch on the M11 head bolt?
  23. Anybody know what M12x1.25 thread chaser will fit in Subaru block. I want to clean out the holes for more even head bolt torque after doing head gaskets.
