  1. Any leaks on the ground? Maybe time for a new gas cap ?
  2. First thing I would do is run some higher octane fuel for a while to see if the problem is being caused by cheapo gas. You might solve your problem by better fuel.
  3. Is this a new problem ? Was anything recently done before the problem began ? A little background can help define the problem source.
  4. Doesn't that risk damaging the gauges ?
  5. backfire at the intake could you elaborate ? Backfiring can be a timing problem.
  6. I can only recommend trying to find the source of the knock. You mentioned a loose timing belt in your other post. Here's a similar video with a similar noise caused by a bad timing belt tensioner. The comments on Youtube for this video may be helpful to your problem. To find more information search this forum and google for "ea82 engine knock".
  7. Sounds like you are either burning oil or you have a good going oil leak. If it was burning oil you would see a blue smoke from the tail pipe. If it is a leak, the underside of the engine will be soaked as well as your driveway where it is parked. My guess is it's a leak which simply means it's time to replace the engine seals.
  8. so my 1993 loyale died on the freeway helps to know how it died. --Was it sudden ? Possible electrical problem --Did it do a hurt dance as it died ? Possible fuel problem --Smoke and noise ? Possible mechanical problem Check your computer for codes ? Possible environmental control problem Does the engine turn over now ? --yes, Possible timing problem, check to distributor --no, Possible battery / alternator problem
  9. Yes, looks like you need the 87ac axle. You can compare it to what you currently have to verify.
  10. This chart may help. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/73038-axle-replacement-for-ea-series-cars/page-2?do=findComment&comment=629117
  11. Are you sure it is the correct axle ? This chart shows the differences: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/73038-axle-replacement-for-ea-series-cars/page-2?do=findComment&comment=629117
  12. <quote>About to drive Over My Subaru with a Dump Truck</quote> Be sure to make a video and post it back here
  13. Some folks have talked about wrapping the bolt with a thin piece of copper wire. Might be worth a try.
  14. Likely having trouble getting air or fuel. You'll need to check for: -- any computer codes -- air filter problems -- fuel filter problems
  15. You've listed several symptoms: -- had it running "well" a few weeks ago ... -- Currently ... no spark coming from the coil to the distributor. -- The only spark we see is turning the key off. ( not sure what this means) -- last time it started it ran for a few minutes sitting still idling very fast then dying. -- Prior to this current issue it would start intermittently. -- When it would run it would idle fast and then idle down to normal, but would only keep running if you kept the Rpms up. Sounds to me like a bunch of possible concurrent timing issues. Since the car was revived as a class project check to make sure : -- the plug wires are connected properly and in the right order. -- the plugs are the right type and gapped correctly -- the setting of the engine timing is correct. -- the timing belts are installed correctly and -- the distributor is positioned correctly. -- all electrical connectors are secure
  16. Starter problems of that type are normally resolved by adding a starter relay.
  17. Add the starter relay. You're going to need it sooner or later. Do it now before you get stuck in some parking lot while your ice cream melts.
  18. New O2 sensor and sharpen/regap your spark plugs. Those two things added about 4 mpg to my loyale. Beyond that, all the usual tuneup/careful driving items mentioned above. I'm now getting 26-28 mpg.
  19. Miles Fox has some videos on youtube just search for "Miles Fox wheel bearings"
