1992 subaru loyale won't run after starting
Dee2 replied to TPaul's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Maybe a faulty ignition switch, but It would help to know some background info. -- Is this a new problem ? -- Was anything done to the car recently ? -- What happens when the car dies, does it just quit or does it do a hurt dance ? -
'88 carbed Justy won't start (video)
Dee2 replied to bobchees3's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Classic crank, no-start video. Since the fuel pump and carb were replaced and you have spark, verify you have fuel flowing in the system. Otherwise, suspect a timing issue or low compression. -
Sounds like you're on the right track. Fuses will blow when there is stray wire that grounds out somewhere. Can be hard to find.

Loyale waggon fuel pump? bad gas?
Dee2 replied to kablamabam's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Glad you found your problem and it is resolved. I don't think you need to worry about the injectors. Some additive won't hurt but I found once the bad fuel was gone, my car ran fine. -

Turbo EA-82 ENGINE starting to make a noise
Dee2 replied to AnotherGL10guy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've always heard 5-30 is a little thin and shouldn't be used for extended runs. Maybe a little heavier oil is called for here. Perhaps 10-w30 or even 10-w40 ? -
Loyale waggon fuel pump? bad gas?
Dee2 replied to kablamabam's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
"Took it back to the same shop he went over everything and said it seems fine." Seems like the mechanic is not having starting problems you describe. I concur with the mechanic, change gas stations and see if things improve. I've had bad fuel from stations before and changing fuel sources made a huge difference. I only buy from the local shell or chevron now. -

duly noted.

You don't have a battery problem, you have a fuel problem. The crank, no-start situation is likely due to a dirty fuel filter, carburetor or faulty fuel pump. I think you'll need to do some more investigating. Also, look at your plugs and air filter while your in there checking things. This could all point to the need for a good tune up.

91 Loyale value. I need your help.
Dee2 replied to Singularity21's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
91 with a bad engine...250 to 500 depending on condition of body/tranny/tires etc. -
I used a rubber strap wrench which worked well for me. You can also make a spanner wrench from a piece of flat steel and 2 bolts, which will work on the cam sprockets.

1991 Loyale clicking noise (not axles)
Dee2 replied to takudog's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had an annoying clicking from an axle. Could not find the problem until I replaced the axle and discovered the old one was the wrong type, even though it fit. Once the correct type of axle was installed -- all quiet. Make sure they installed the correct type of axle for the vehicle. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/73038-axle-replacement-for-ea-series-cars/page-2?do=findComment&comment=629117 -
Cool, I love sedans and have one too. Keep us posted on the progress with tons of pictures!

Probably then the ignition switch. Usually not that expensive for a manual tranny vehicle. Or you could go the relay route.
-
If the engine fired with starter fluid but won't stay running, then it seems to me like it isn't getting fuel.
-
Could be the starter itself. Solenoid contacts wear out. When it doesn't start, do you get a clicking sound when you turn the key ? Easily replaced and inexpensive. Jumping will boost the power to the starter and sometimes compensate for poor solenoid contacts. Could also be a weak battery, how old is it? Could also be the ignition or park/neutral switch. When it doesn't start, if automatic, put in neutral and if it still doesn't start then it might be the ignition switch. If it does start then it is likely the park neutral switch.

A guy I knew once had a mysterious balance problem on a tire. Could not get it out after numerous attempts to balance it. Turned out to be water in the tire. Service guy said it probably originated from an air compressor at some point in time.

Have you tried starter fluid ?

EA82 O2 sensor renewal ...no easy access :(
Dee2 replied to jono's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yup...I just did mine recently and had to remove heat shielding and drop the y pipe to get access to the sensor. It wasn't too bad and everything came free without much trouble. Here's my experience report and help from others. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/149145-code-32/
