xt6 knuckles and I'm still figuring it out. Coilovers? not sure yet. Having a hard time finding a inner wheel axel seal that fits properly. I'm thinking about machining the knuckle to fit the seals that I have that are too big. At least then I will have the proper seals part # 225678 timmken. I read that this seal would work but no. I am going to try some more at the auto store tomorrow. part #710108 I hope this one fits. If not I will most likely machine the hubs or keep looking for a inner seal that will work. The knuckles need to be ground down to fit impreza struts or legacy struts. The xt6 knuckles are a little bit bigger. These are the headaches I have encountered.

I purchaced this seal and it did not fit into the er knuckle it was too big. Anyone have a different part # for this conversion? ER or xt6 knuckle and ej Impreza fwd axel. Unless I have the knuckles machined to the o.d. of the 225678 seal? Any other suggestions?

Where would one do this the easy way? I looked at the power source to the motor, nothing. A mechanic had done this for the po after he claimed it strangled him. Got the car for a friend and now we are trying to track down a fuse or connecter that has been un-done. So far nothing. I have a whole assembly but in fear of it not working on the install I wanted to track down a fuse first. Any suggestion are welcome thanks! Dave

EA82 White Smoke Exhaust
snofool replied to ystrdyisgone's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
everytime I go around a off/on ramp at any speed this same thing happens. Only right hand turns. But after the cloverleaf I get the SPY HUNTER effect! Don't follow too close. ha! Everybody behind me gets it good! But after a few seconds it goes away and the car drives normal with no smoke. The first time I noticed this I was off road as well. I thought it was a head gasket at first now I don't even bat an eye. Just make sure there is oil in her. cheers -
would you have to extend the steering linkage with the outback spacers?

I just got some new struts and springs handed to me. Was wondering if the rx turbo struts are any stiffer or taller? Any differences at all? cheers!

from what I have herd is that you need a bit of fabrication to make it work. If you have the seats already, take them both out of the car and switch the mounting hardware. I am in the process of doing this(90 legacy seats) and will let you know if I run into any problems. I am not familiar with sti but I've herd they are all kinda similar, but not a direct swap. cheers! good luck

Took the legacy to my mechanic to do a overall systems check. It drove there flawlessly and with the a/c cranked the whole way! Too bad it's r12 still. Even if it's colder I want to try and keep the a/c if possible. So I might just convert it over to 134 and try to salvage all the pieces. I was taking a look at the seats as well. Looks like it will be easy enough to swap. cheers!

Ha! I like that! All the 5 spd 4wds were haggard or had like 200,000 plus miles on them. Not to mention fwd is cheaper! I got some good doner seats and a great donor motor(I hope). If anyone has a link to an article about the seats let me know.

Timing belt broken on 88 gl wagon interference?
snofool replied to snofool's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
saweet! Thanks! -
What else can break when the timing belts go on these? Are they an interference motor? I have found a good enough one but it died and the owner thinks its the timing but has no money to fix it. It's a 88 gl 5spd spfi. I was thinking of limping it to a garage and swapping it with a 2.2 for some power. But I can't tow it. so the owner seems to think it should fire right up after a year if I can fix the timing belt. Any help would be great! thanks

In san diego, I have a slipping clutch, but thats with the car completely loaded with gear fully. How long can you drive on a slipping clutch? (empty car) I need to get to new mexico where I have the means to fix this myself.Need a clutch put in an 88 gl Or a good mechanic in the san diego area. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great! The car has a bit too much rust to keep putting money into it. I have found a better one to upgrade, but for now I need to get back to colorado and new mexico.
