  1. After searching around town, and on craigslist for a few weeks for some wheels that would work for my 6 lug swap, I finally decided to just throw the wagoneer wheels on, along with some tires I had laying around. They don't stick out as much as I thought they would:
  2. Yeah, that's what I was referring to when I said rocking the wheel horizontally and vertically. There was no play to speak of. I told her to get an alignment and we would go from there.
  3. A friend of mine has an 05 Outback with about 180K on it. She asked me to check it out because of a steering shimmy that happens at high speeds. I did some research on the subject, and did a visual inspection of both front wheels and steering assemblies. Ball joint and tie rod boots still look good. No play when rocking wheel horizontally or vertically. An interesting thing I noticed is that the shimmy kicks in only above 60 mph, and it happens when you let off the gas from accelerating. So accel from 50 to 70 quickly and then let off the gas, no brake, the shimmy will start, and continue. It also has nothing to do with braking. There is no shimmy when the brakes are applied, even hard braking. So I've seen suggestions of an alignment, which I may tell her to get. But I noticed that the control arm bushing on the driver's side is starting to fall apart. (not the bushing that connects to the xmember, but the one where the radius rods mount to the car on the older gens) Could this worn bushing be the culprit? I'll upload a picture of it soon. Thanks! Driver's side: Pass side:
  4. I'm pretty sure Idasho(user on the board) does the type of work you are looking for. I think he's in your area too.
  5. Ha, nice Scooner.. I'm gettin to the donor, it's just kinda become my daily now.. Also, Scooner what kind of wheels are those on your wagon? I think I saw some of those yesterday at the junkyard, but the offset looked way off to me.
  6. Now that's thinkin, I usually just wait till I lower the car back down. Perhaps I'll try said method tomorrow.
  7. A. Not in there yet, as I haven't torqued the axle nut, cause I ain't got no wheels to put on! B. Noted, will do. (might be a little bit, haven't even started tearing apart the donor car yet :/ ) C. Thanks for the parts man!
  8. Wheee: just gotta find some wheels now.. My wagoneer rims stick out way too much, I don't want to subject my wheel bearings to that.
  9. Maybe I need to get more clarification about this guys engine. It's not turbo. Is MPFI only used on a turbo setup? And perhaps his engine is SPFI?
  10. Those door panels look beautiful! Dash sure looks grey to me though.
  11. Are you doing the work, or are you asking what it would cost for someone else to do it?
  12. Oh I missed the "forgotten" part. Although the height of the grass could have told me that.. That's cool though, maybe that means you'll get some parts super cheap if he decides to sell you anything?
  13. Hmm, so this guy said his engine developed a knock, which is most likely in the crankshaft area right? So he could potentially use my short block and use everything else from his current engine?
  14. So I've got a carbed ea82 for sale. I found another member on the board who would like to purchase it, but we're not sure if it's compatible with his 88 XT(ea82 mpfi). Seems to me like he could just swap his entire intake over onto the carbed longblock? Might there be compression issues? Or problems with the ecu(different sensors and such)? Thanks ahead of time for any clarification!
  15. Scooner, grab those rear discs and make some cash! Seems to me those disc setups are becoming a rarity.
  16. Here ya go, both pass and drivers sides. Let me know if you need them more zoomed out.
  17. Shawn, I may be giving you a call about said kit next week. Do you know if it's necessary to replace the head studs?
  18. Scooner, yours was definitely the most inspiring. It was the thread that finally made me decide that this was a doable swap. I especially liked the part about "they're just wires, get over it" ha. I'll be digging into my donor car early next week, so I may have some questions coming your way!
  19. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/143452-the-2nd-ea-to-ej-swap-trials-and-tribulations/ http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/99811-ej-22-swap-project-loyale/ http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/124847-1999-phase-ii-ej22-into-1987-gl-wagon-carb/ I'm currently getting into my swap and have those 3 bookmarked.
  20. A couple hours and a gallon of Purple Power later, here's the engine bay. It's not spotless, but it'll do. The sides of the transmission actually got pretty shiny, the top didn't want to clean up much at all: Next up the really fun part.. underside of the transmission.
  21. Am I better off just getting a gasket set? Also, I've read mixed reviews on whether or not the head bolts are reusable. Anyone care to clarify for me?
