  1. yes the plugs are NGK, wires are beldin super conductor, as far as when it comes to doing the timing belt and all that before mentioned service you describe gary, would it be easiest to pull the engine and put it on a stand? i know that on my old 84 waggon it was a prety quick task to have it out if you have a friend to help.
  2. i guess i might be mistaken on what i see then, i guess what I'm making reference to is the breathers on both valve covers (leaking oil) i did the air filter when i did the plugs, any ideas on the knock? its very light at a low idle, and there is mild clatter at 5-6000 Rpm's, but no different that a EA81 at 5000. could it be the plate on the back of the oil pump?
  3. Well my 98 OBW is up for service, plagued with a low rough idle and a bit of a light knock due to the low idle, plus a leaking power steering pump,... I was thinking of replacing both PCV's, pulling the intake manifold and TB, cleaning it with the appropriate cleaner, i already did new plugs and wires, any more ideas?
  4. Ok, this just popped into my head, how many Subaru nuts play paint ball besides myself?
  5. well given that i checked that timing belt before i took a 300 mile trip, it still says subaru on it and is covered in oil, i think its just time to pull my engine out and go through it, there is oil and dirt 1/8 inch on the inside of the cover tells me that its been a while since its been changed and the front seal is out
  6. i guess my next question is, does the new head gaskets take care of the head gasket problem? if so then ill pull the 2.5 out and rebuild it, however if i still have to live in fear that someday a head gasket will give prematurly, then ill go to a 2.2 and boost it slightly.
  7. Well i guess my only concern is that i tow a small 14 foot fishing boat with my car, and i dont want to come up short on the hills and boat ramp. can i juice up the EJ22 just enough to have the same performance if not more then a EJ25 dohc, without making it a whole lot less reliable?
  8. I'm mainly after the whole dependability factor, i would do a EJ22, but i dont know if i could handle the horse power loss
  9. last night i was searching and toying with the idea of pulling the Phase 1 EJ out of my OBW its up to 181,000 with no head gasket replacement. (knock on wood) and dropping in a Phase 2, now i have found lots of write up's all very detailed! however there are some questions that i have, bear with me im mosly a EA guy so the EJ thing is something i'll have to get used to What is the Horsepower difference between the phase 1 and phase 2? how long does this swap usualy take with all parts (mostly) on hand How many buddys do i need to help lift and restuff the engines? Is it a good idea to install updated head gaskets and studs on the Phase 2 before install? Final Question, would i be better off just doing the 2.2 swap? will i miss the horsepower if i do? Thanks guys
  10. I think that im gonna try some 10-30 highmilage oil and see how things turn out, but keep thos ideas comming!
  11. Given that i purchaced her about a month ago, im not sure on the PCV, however i will have a look tonight when i check the timing belt, oil change is set at every 3000mi, and i have 2,000 to go, it has 5-30 in it now, pensoil i think. Gas milage is 25-24mpg
  12. Well the past few days my 98 OBW has been doing dry starts first thing in the morning, so it knocks for about 2-4 seconds then builds oil pressure and the knock goes away, my EA -81 used to do this too, i was told that it was just a common thing and to not worry. So is this the case with EJ25 as well? or am i in need of a new oil pump. The car has 181,000 on the clock.
  13. Just so i know to keep my eyes open while out "driving" on the beach!
  14. i have one and i love it, the only thing i hear that you need to seriously look out for is the head gaskets and overheating, plus keep in mind that the phaze 1 2.5 motor is non clearance motor, so make sure that the timing belt is up to snuff or you might end up with little parts everywhere when the belt breaks and the valves hit the piston, other then that,.. a fantastic machine!
  15. i just checked it out, and its prety darned slick maybe i can talk the wife into joining... nice job for sure!
  16. Found it, put a fuse in and it blew, so tracked it down to the cigar lighter up forward, anyone have one that they would like to donate? took it out of the circut, everything works fine!
  17. hey thanks a million! i just noticed that my cig lighter doesent work either! ill give it a try.
  18. Hey all, i got my 99 outback limited aniversary edition a few days ago and i notice that the power mirrors do not work, i dont have a tec manual so i dont know which fuse it is, or is it a fuse at all? any help appreciated!
  19. well after 3 years without a soob, im back! except im in the "New" Subaru fourm, just scored a 1998 Outback 2.5 30th anniversary edition! any tricks i need to know about? this is a long cry from my gen2 days!
  20. "Tis more fun to drive a slow car slow, than it is to drive a fast car slow" herd that once, i agree, drive it like you stole it
  21. well i would love to see one get started, so if anyone wants to entertain the idea again PM me and we can exchange numbers
  22. so i know that bajavwnsoobnut (Jason) was trying to get a Club together here in the metro area, i have been away from the board for too long (wolnt let that happen again ) i was just wondering if it became something, and if i could be a part of it, or if it fell though,... i think it would be realy nice to have a local club here, with more free time i could me more active as a club member, anyone who has any information, or questions please get a hold of me Thanks Dusty
