Subeast-EA81 replied to Subeast-EA81's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well i just got a sweet hook up on some Distys, so im gonna give that a shot, everyone i have talked to about it agrees that once i replace the disty all my woes should be a thing of the past, and i as well am confident of the same -
Spark plug wire resistance too low?
Subeast-EA81 replied to soobscript's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I dont personaly see why low resistance can be a problem, i know that the less resistance you have ther more the spark gets to the plug and less energy is lost on its way from the disty, which means better spark, and less heat in the wires, although im might be missing something, thats my 2 cents -
Hey all, after the demise of my 83 Wagon (sold it, then the kid rolled it) i have started work on my 84 sedan again, however i am still stumped on a problem that im having, the Tach jumps, when this happends there a knock from the engine bay (doesent sound like the engine though) and a squeeling noise from the disty, this is all folowed by a miss fire. so i was thinking about replacing the disty to see if that might help,.. if anyone is avalible to maybe have a listen to it and give me there opinion that would be much appreciated, dont get me wrong im a prety darn good wrench, im just stumped, it happens P.s. still on the search for a set of deep offset waggon wheels

wheres your EA81's power band?
Subeast-EA81 replied to Phizinza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Its funny that you use the words "power" and "EA81" on the same paragraph:rolleyes: however my EA81 with full 2 inch stainless exhaust usualy pulls good from 3500 to 4500, never seen 5000 though, so not sure on that avenue. -
EA81 Knocks when cold? not when warm
Subeast-EA81 replied to Subeast-EA81's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah its a knock, but there's no rythim to it, its totaly random, even through the rpms, but it occurs less around 2500rpm and up -
hey all my 84 sedan 4x4 is still knocking at a cold idle, its a intermitant knock acompied by a squeel, (sounds like belts but isnt) it also causes the tach to jump and car to misfire and die sometimes, when the car warms up its driveable and the symptoms dissappear, however when its cold the knocking causes extream powerloss and the car is not driveable, someone suguested to repalce the disty, but i need more oppinions before make a purchase like that. Thanks

my 84 sedan is sick
Subeast-EA81 replied to Subeast-EA81's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well I can move it fore and aft with a pry bar, almost as if it was loose, I havebt checked the disty, that would explane the tach symptoms and the power loss and misfires -

anyone? im kinda in a bind here -
84 sedan 4x4 with a auto trans,...there is a sound from the belhousing area when its cold, its kind of a knocking sound that happens intermintantly, the tach jumps when it knocks and there is good amonut of powerloss, however when the car warms up it runs fine and there is no noise and powerloss, and the tach works fine, its got me stumpped, i thought about the flexplate because i can stick a prybar in the timing hole and move it forward and back, so any ideas? thanks dusty

Uh oh Humming sounds in wheel area
Subeast-EA81 replied to Myxalplyx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Check your CV Axle, i just did all 4, its not a hard task, after inspecting the axle for torn boots or sloppy yokes, check for play in the wheel bearing, and disregard your book when it comes to replacing the bearings in the front, it can be done without taking the steering knuckles to a machine shop email me if you have any further questions, would be glad to help! -
