  1. I think I got the electricals all worked out..but thanks abunch!!! Just a buzzing semi-whining noise....fluids were all fine...think its all cause the car was sitting I added the seafoam on my Loyale with the oil change today..but before I just added it when the oil level was low. I got if for around $5 yesterday..not to bad..running it in both cars now.
  2. Cool!! Looks like it will be a nice little get together. Paulyburger, Melis,Dave,Matt,Michelle,Myself,Tom. I am sorry to hear Mary can't come..but we will definately hook up soon..Maybe when the coupe is ready I will bring her up on alittle road trip..she needs some miles put on her. Now I wont feel so bad showing off Lucky either..now that she is running almost decent. Next project will be some body work. Geesh I can't stop staring at her
  3. Done for the day.. The coupe is making me very happy right now..I think once her exhaust is fixed and the gaskets and seals get back to normal she should be good to drive. Fixed some of the chewed wires..and I did take her for a small spin around the parking lot. She drives soooooo nice! Brakes were mushy but otherwise she drove great. Once in awhile the tranny starts to hum but stops when she is moving. Bucky wasnt neglected today either..he got a new set of plugs,an oil change, and a new EGR sylinoid..The I drove him down the street and vaccuumed him out and he got a bath...He is so jealous of the coupe I had to pamper him too.(I think he was a Brat in a previous life cause sometimes he acts like one:rolleyes: ) I love my Subies!
  4. Just had to post quick!! Lucky is running on all 4 cylinders again!! Its sounds abit ticky but its running..still smoking alittle though not as bad though...Ran her for about a half hour then discovered an antifreeze leak..looks like its from the water pump..no biggy. Sea Foamed the carb..going to sea foam the crank case and keep running her for abit. Also found the relay shorting out...its the power window switches. OK back to work
  5. OK..So this weekend I am planning on giving Lucky a tune-up. New Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, going to try and fix some of the mousey damage to some wires. If this doesnt stop the misfire on cylinder 3....what else could it be?? Bad coil? Ditzy? (I have spares of both..I think..I know I have a coil) I am also going to SeaFoam Lucky both in the crankcase and fuel tank. Bucky is getting the same treatment after an oil change. This is the first time I have tried the SeaFoam ..used MMO before...I hope it helps. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated....geesh I feel like the EA81 dufus of the board
  6. Geesh!! I read this NOW after just coming back from the parts store...getting tune-up stuff for the coupe. Lucky for me (ha! Lucky....my coupes name) The Girl working the counter knew more than any of the guys do (I went to Advanced Auto). Keeping my fingers crossed I got the right parts...going to put on tomorrow.
  7. I got you beat big time now for the lowest....82 GLF 32K:grin: But my 92 Loyale is barely broken in yet with 188K and still going strong...going for the 300K mark with it
  8. I am going to get a tune up kit for it this weekend (hopefully) and do some temporary wire fixes (just wrap in electrical tape temp to keep them from shorting) The only person in my area who I know has a running daily driver EA81 is Moosens...and he is so busy right now..he needs some time to his family. Believe me..I really could use someone here to help...But I will keep plugging at it until I get it right....or screw it up more. I took a break from her today.
  9. Matt... I posted over in Meet and Greet ..trying for May 28...the Sat before Memorial Day...I will PM ya'll or email you guys that I have email addys for.
  10. Thats the control for the passenger side mirror. And thanks.. ..You guys dont know how proud I am of Lucky...just wish she would run:-\
  11. Thanks but I already have a spare:grin: Darn that moosens LOL BTW ..more pics have been added of the interior
  12. Thanks Alex! I have a close up pic in the photo album I posted under "Pics of my Coupe". I am soooooo tempted to do a 5 spd swap but with 32K miles I just can't bring myself to do any mods. I havent even driven this car.its only been home since late Sat night...and with its ill running and smoking it just can't be driven yet. My mechanic friend stopped by late last night and looked at it ..Even he is confused on the smoking but is going to help figure it out (He is just dying to work on an EA81 again) I am going to re-attach the wire after work today and do a search for more.. I have no clue to how long it has been sitting but I am figuring at least a year or two.
  13. Thanks all...I think she is a pretty little thing...actually I absolutely love her. I already have a new fender for her..just have to prep it and paint it. I will add some interior pics tomorrow..got to dark tonight. I didnt follow where the broken wire lead up to..will look tomorrow. I brought home some wire from work and will splice it.(600V 16 guage should do it.) Also want to get a pic of Bucky and her together.
  14. Here is a link to a photo album of Lucky... I hopew it works cause sometimes Yahoo can take a day to get them working..hard for me to tell cause they work right away for me. Anyway: http://photos.yahoo.com/csmeriglio@sbcglobal.net
  15. I was playing with the coupe today after work.(the mechanic guy didnt show ..probably didnt have time) I pulled Buckys Battery to toss into the coupe so it would be easier than having to jump her. She started OK but seemed weak.(great now Bucky needs a new battery too) The Voltage guage was reading normal but then you would hear a buzz and it would drop to 8 for a second then jump right up to normal again...about a minute later it would do it ok..I am thinking .OK something is shorting out..but what. Now the whole time she is smoking up a storm but seems to be running smoother. I turn her off for a bit..pull the air cleaner and spare tire and find a completely chewed through wire going to the side of the tranny...OK thats not good..what is that for?? So I pull the cap and rotor and clean them off with some sand paper put it back together but leave the air cleaner off. I try to re-start her and slow crank..too slow to start her.. GREAT!!. So I jump out and quickly pull the Battery and toss it back in Bucky and he starts right up like the battery is fully charged?????? Then my one neighbor walks over and say that first he has to say he is amazed to see a girl out there working on a car..by herself..And then asked if I saw the smoke come out from around the coil when I tried to start it... I didnt see it cause the hood was up. I looked and found some more chewed wires and 1 disconnected well actually abunch disconnected.. I dont have a clue to where they go..the one I noticed thye most has an O ring connector and attaches to a cylinder type thing (small) right below the the coil. Any Ideas??? I warned ya'll that I would have alot of questions:grin:
  16. This is an invite to anyone in the NE area...Going to have a Meet The 82 GLF get together maybe the Sat before Memorial day. Going to have food on the grill and hopefully some fun.No working on Subies involved (unless you insist then I have a list for ya:brow: ). Just a nice get together for you great people from this group who have helped me out in so many ways. Its the least I can do for a payback. PM me and I can give you directions (easy on/off RT84 in Danbury) Also let me know if it is a good weekend or not so I can plan accordingly.
  17. I talked to the mechanic down the street...great kid ..knows a ton about Subies...He is going to stop by tonight after work and look at the smoking..he has a good idea what the problem might be..plus he said he just wants to drool over it:grin: . What a great kid..anyone ever need work done and wants an HONEST mechanic and ygou around around the Danbury CT area...Danbury Gulf...ask for Chris.
  18. My 92 Loyale does the same thing...runs abit hotter on inclines but not too bad...I am thinking clogged radiator...with 188K its expected. Also the coolant levels..I have a minor leak from around my water pump and if I dont check it regulary Bucky runs warm..didnt worry about it much over the winter but now that its warmer I check more often.
  19. I think Paul adveraged about 60mph with the coupe loaded..sometimes he crept it up to 70 but that was usually downhill.....and yes it did drift a good bit...specially when a bus or a big truck passed.Plus it didnt want to stop the best or turn very well.....Not something I know I would recommend often. The wagon was a 4 spd and after just talking with Paul..he said its tired now.He towed his coupe after we were done with mine. He can explain more
  20. Thanks guys! I knew I could count on this board to make me feel better about things. I do want to save this motor...planning on a complete restore once my other car is ready to be returned to daily duty..and all numbers have to match to keep it authentic. Will start with this stuff tomorrow.
  21. Well...spent the morning playing with the coupe..found some things that a 32K mile car shouldnt have. .. :( :( Smokes like crazy...hard to tell due to wind if it was blue but it did seem abit blue...Pulled a plug and it was black and wet around the edges..I am thinking bad rings.Havent done a compression test yet cause I dont have the tools for it. I have absolutly no knowledge of the EA81..just EA82. I am hopeing it isnt rings cause I need this car on the road ASAP so I can fix Bucky.
  22. Just got sweetbaby girl home....WOW what a trip....went without incident but it was a LOOOONNNGGGG trip..Pauls 84 wagon did an amazing job towing her home...it didnt like the hills but it did GREAT..I started calling it...Little Car with Big Heart. We had a few scarey moments...but luckily nothing happened..plus we lucked into good weather the whole trip...and because of the Luck..she has now been named Lucky.....thats right ..Bucky and Lucky:grin: . I dont know how many times we all said "What the heck were we thinking" and "What is wrong with us..this is insane" But anyway she is home and I will be having a TON of questions ...I am super happy but have found some concerns..(smokes heavily when started here at home..smelled like raw fuel).. But I did find a treasure....the original case that her keys came in from back when she was new. Sorry for no picsof sube towing sube..it was too late and dark. Anyway more tomorrow
  23. I think its all about trim packages I believe but dont hold me too it...this is my first EA81...All I know is the GL-10s have the digital dash..and mine has guages..I just like the name GLF bit better than just GL..kinda makes it sound faster As for the names..for me its just always been what sticks...My previous Toyota truck was Finiky Fickus ..named after someon I knew...when Fickus died and I got my Loyale ..I laughed and said I should name it Bucky cause the guy I knew..his first name was Bucky and since I already used Fickus Bucky should be appropriate..And Bucky just stuck...like glue..now ppl even refer to him as Bucky..example...can you and Bucky give me a ride?? And yes I think she looks like a Bernice....
  24. Its Officail!!! GLF coming home definately Sat!! WeeHoo!!!!All arrangements have been made,,,sweetbaby girl is coming!! I am going to be a basket case at work tomorrow knowing that first thing Sat morning we will be hitting the road to go get her:banana:
