  1. I actually went 55 on my final torque..per Turbones recommendation.. ( said to go 7 over ..so I rounded it off to 8 ) And I did get the Fel-Pro. I mentioned having my new torque wrench checked for calibration because someone was having issues with me getting the Harbor Freight one. And since I build Blackhawk helicopters its not too much a problem to have something checked. fshnidiot hooked me up on the Alt brackets. And I finished ordering the Redline Lightweight Shockproof ( and another quart of the Castrol Hypoy C cause I only ordered 1 qt instead of 2 ..DOH!) for Uncle Scotty's Cocktail. Now I have to find a place to stash the motor out of the way while I clean up and detail the engine bay.And I think I am going to just get a new radiator...better safe then sorry when it comes to cooling systems. Really upset..wanted to have the car ready for my Company car and bike show...have alot of people wanting to see it..but I doubt it will be ready:-\
  2. Update...Heads torqued( and for the curious..I took my torque wrench to work and had the calibration checked and verified)...oil pump on....valve covers on.... Tomorrow may play with my angle grinder and some cutting wheels..a BFH and my welder...Also might put the new clutch assemby on.. Have a couple small odds and ends to do yet..like oil pressure sending unit...filler tube and new gasket...
  3. Might not be for a couple more days:( Threw my back out moving that motor around... But I do have a new pretty oil pump sitting on my desk...and a gorgous new clutch kit sitting on the floor beside my desk.:-p
  4. I am with the others..the price is way too high with those kind of miles.. I bought my 08 Impreza 5 door right off the showroom floor ( ok I had to order it at the time..they were too new on the market) with some xtras for $19K..and no miles. You can definately do much better
  5. I know mine has been put on hold due to a much more important issue..like head gaskets on the motor. We are just probably going to run all new wireing to the components and the analog dash.. But who knows when we will get around to it.
  6. I have that actually framed and hangs on my living room wall...The actual magazine add
  7. Where actually do you block them off?...This car wont have to go through emissions ever again ..so they can go ( plus they keep getting in the way of my fine cleaning wheels;)).And it isnt going to be seeing many miles ..just to shows and once in awhile ..an out and about. I am hopeing to have it ready for 1 BIG trip in the next year or 2...want to take it home to show it off..back to Seattle..but under its own power. samneric..let me finish pulling all that off and I will let you know.. Yes my AC idle-up works..( here is my dumb question...where is it to pull it:-p?..maybe I should open my FSM more huh?) I agree GD on the AC bracket...that thing is just a beasty heavy piece..definately going in my pile of scrap metal Steve( hatchsub) can you do me a favor? Can you send me some detailed pics of you set up?
  8. I had a set of those on my 82 GLF ..one of my favs for the EA81s
  9. Can someone post what you are talkig about with those valves??? ( Pics or something) .. I wanted to get rid of them but thought they had something to do with the EGR system. Thanks
  10. The motor itself is actually..we todd ed lee easy..Its just getting to the motor itself...my biggest fear is going to be getting it back inside...and actually running.. I did the rear main before wrapping it up for the day...That ...is a 5 minutes job ..good gravy it was the easiest thing ever to replace.. I am thankful that this is a rust free car..cause I think I would have been doing alot more cussin if it wasnt. I am also thankful for ALL the help from this board so far ...and poor Turbone..I bet he is wishing he never gave me his phone number. Still a long way to go though.. I am still toying with the idea of getting rid of the AC..I wont ever use it..plus it will free up some space under the hood ( I believe I would need an Alt bracket from one without AC right??) I am also going to upgrade to the XT6 Alt I have. I am trying my best to do as much of this as possible without any help ( hands on) to prove that I can do it...And I know there are some who are just waiting for me to fail..well its not going to happen. I WILL have the nicest EA81 coupe in the North East..and it will be built by me ...not bought. And I refuse to let another one get trashed. ( I also cant wait to say...Not to bad for a girl huh? ) And Maybe ..it will be the incentive needed to get some others to pick up some tools and get dirty.
  11. Ah yes...the woodruff key..I am sooo familiar with them from dealing with the dirtbikes...Little PIAs
  12. Thats a nice set up...thinking on doing the same with my coupe ( getting one with remote).. I am planning on doing a hidden upgrade..to keep the stock look on the dash but have everything else..out of sight. Like what you did with the speakers ..alot .
  13. I think this may say it all right now: Need to do front and rear main..new oil pump...new clutch kit..intake and weber..then..back in it goes ( well maybe before ) but then it will hooking it up and firing it up ( hopefully) I also have been laughing at myself...working right in from of LB ...and it feels like he is watching me...and I have been talking to him as I do stuff.
  14. New water pump and gasket ...intalled...new oil pan gasket...installed...putting heads back on now
  15. Nice!! little 4 door one..great score! ..I really liked mine when I had it..great gas mileage too. Congrats
  16. Took a break from the project yesterday...was having too much fun blowing stuff up:grin: ( even us gurls like things that go boom) partial aftermath...have to find the cases to the oodles of bottle rockets: But anyway...should be able to finish up the cleaning on the short block and start putting back together today..oil pump comes in Monday..clutch kit wensday..Ordered the stuff for the Uncle Scotty's Cocktail for the tranny..Hopefully in a couple weeks it will be running again!
  17. :slobber: There is just something about a lifted wagon:slobber::slobber: Looking great!!!
  18. Rock Auto has them for $95..thats where I ordered my new one yesterday
  19. I have one you can have pretty dirt cheap if you want it..but I wont be able to ship till Sat. Can take better pics of the internals later after I take it back apart.
  20. Thanks GD:).. I already ordered a new one from Rock Auto and its already been shipped:-\ The places that you show were perfect..not even the smallest groove. Oh well...I will either keep it as a spare or maybe sell it cheap. Once this motor is back in then its on to the dash issue..THAT will have an oil pressure guage when done. BTW..you can still see the cross hatching marks on the cylinder walls...I find that impressive for a 235K mile car. But Turbone gave me some history on it... Its original owner was a military man...the car was garage kept and very well maintained but driven alot. It was sold last year sometime to the PO who replaced the clutch and then was letting thier kid drive it. Dont remember why they parted ways in just a few months of ownership..But then it became mine and was stored at Robs for a few months until it came here. I just want my little coupe running again...I miss it.
  21. OH and here is progress teasers: inside! notice how yuck the motor is in above pic...this is it now before itty gritty scrubbing:
  22. I wish someone was here too!.. That was heavy trying to drag it outside....and thats where it is staying until I can get help getting it back inside. Yo'j the only good thing about this one was the fact it wasnt milkshaked..it had a leak from exhaust to coolant..and never really over heated the car...Everything is smooth and I have yet to find a crack. .. Oh ..I havent even included the new carb set up..and all the new parts that were put on it before it left Seattle for its trip to the east coast.
