  1. I wish it was a direct plug and play. we are working on and documenting an adapter harness for the job.there are some sensors that need added like the temp sensor and I believe the fuel sending unit. This seems to be an issue that keeps being brought up and seems that no one has successfully repaired a digi ..and if they did they dont want to come forward..so the analog swap seems to be the only choice. Either way...its going to be a PITA:-\
  2. :-p:-p:-p:-p:-p:-p Nice score definately...but listen you your elders..Or I will tell BWB that I dont want any Rocky parts on your silky Black sweetness. :-p;) I honestly wish mine wouldnt have left such a horrid taste in my mouth for them.Doubt I will ever want another..I know mine was one of the rare POS ones..and I hope you have the bestest luck with it
  3. I am telling you..you are not going to want to keep the air..its nothing but a problem...plus coil overs handle better.
  4. Let me explain why I am really ready to toss this whole digi dash mess away ...We ( being Turbone and myself) have swapped I believe a total of 6 dashes into this car...He tested the Alt and it was good... I just spent over $100 last weekend to run to PA and get a digi from a semi low mileage car that was in Harry's U Pull It. It did work..all except the speedometer.. I started swapping out parts between my bad dashand in the process smoked the "almost" good dash out...burnt out a trace...turns out both dashes had the same trace burnt..so I took to work and soldered a jumper wire onto both. I used my known good VR and tyested both dashes out...the first one ( from the bad dash) ..well..it was possessed by a demon spawn ..so something else is shorted out on that one...I put the "almost" good dash back in ..and it was like it was originally..all works except the speedometer..Cool..I can live with that for now..cause..you cant speed with an EA81 anyway. Let the car run for a good half hour...took it for a spin..all is good.. Next day...husband pushes car out of the garage ( He doesnt even want to attempt to find the sweet spot in the ignition) mows lawn..car sits outside till I wake up ( I work graveyard) ..I start car up..put back in garage..all fine.. Yesterday..have to move car out of garage again..put key in ign..turn it to accessory( did NOT even crank it) it starts screaming and smoke pours out of the dash again. Dead dash. This is too much BS trying to keep a primative outdated electronic nightmare working right...So it is going to go..Plus..There is only 1 exsisting WORKING digi that I know of..but it is lost for now in their stash. I am just going to put my extra good XT6 alt into the car..just in case..and swap it to analog...no more problems. It is a known fact its a faulty VR...and we have not been able to locate a replacement for it because it is so obsolete that NEC doesnt even have the specks on it anymore
  5. Russ..my first reaction was to post ( over on the XT board ) to RUN!!!!!:-pRUN LIKE THE WIND:grin: ...but that is solely because I have had the worst experience with XTs and never ever want another one .. But that is me. Congrats on the find... Tuesday...get hold of Backwoodsboy..I gave him whats left of my XT6 ( it is being hauled out on the 21st ) ...he is going to be pulling the 5 lug stuff off and the tranny and sending the rest to scrap... Mine has the coil over conversion and everything is still good..He may be able to help you would with those parts if you ask him.
  6. My verdict on EA81 Digi Dashes...they all must burn in eternal damnation...Blew it again...without even starting the car...putting the key in the ign and BEEEEEP ..nothing.. Digi Dashes must die
  7. I did find a smoked trace on the main board..between the 2 boards..behind the Speedo...I soldered a jumper on and have yet to try it out..I know my one Trip puter unit is bad and is what caused the blow out....I should try this today and see what happens.. Meanwhile...we are working on gathering parts for an analog swap...if successful we will try and document fully ..so others can do it too later
  8. I figured my "Doesnt Play Well With Others" reputation followed me Jamie fixed it
  9. LOL I finally joined...made one post and am already listed as an X member.....hahaha Banned after 1 post.
  10. Sat I ran to Pennsylvania to Harrys U Pull It because work of a GL-10 was out...after some thought I said I would spend the money for gas to run down and grab it ( plus I could visit my friends there). Get there and ...yup..there is is..in the nastiest car I think I have ever seen. Anyway..pull it and come home..keeping fingers crossed that I didnt waste basically $60 in gas and $32 for the part. FFW..today I deside to try and swap them out.. Get the new one in...it screamed at me for a sec then WORKS!! all but the Speedo..I had temp fuel RPMS and trip.. I couldnt leave it alone at that noooo..so I start swapping parts betweent he 2 dashes trying to get the speedo to work..so what do I do...blow out the main board ..on the OK unit.:banghead::banghead: Found a burnt trace in the same spot on both boards..I am going to sneak them to work today and solder a jumper on then try again tomorrow ( I know for sure what the failed part is in the one dash unit, the one that blows out the main board..so that will NOT be going back it.) Giving it one more shot before going to the analog swap...Am I :horse: by messing with this digital dash? General Disorder has successfully done the swap..so any pointers would be soo appreciated....I have an analog dash and the sensors coming next week via Backwoodsboy. How long of a job and big of a chore is this really going to be?
  11. I have the same issue with my carbed EA81.. It IS a PCV problem..could be a blocked hose..or some gunk may have gotten into and clogged the PCV valve again...Pull the lines ..check for build up ..either replace or clean if they do...check the valve again..and put in a new "filter" on the airbox..make sure you scrape out the plastic tree also.. Try that and see if it helps
  12. Heading to Harry's today to hopefully snag a working Digi Dash from the EA81 GL-10 they have there.Aso hvae to look for a couple other things ..If someone needs something and you have my celly number ..let me know..Should be meeting Melis there around 11 am.. If anyone wants to meet up...look for the Pearly White 08 Impreza 5 door with the Thule Bike rack on top and CT plates. Or some fat chick fondeling the Subarus. Leaving here around 7:30 am
  13. I think that us East coasters are out...the price of plane fare went through the roof ..and since none of us can get enought time off work ( plus the gas prices) driving out is not an option. Maybe next year... was really looking forward to this too
  14. I havent taken my cars to garages in years ..prior to the Impreza cause ..I dont trust them..seen too much first hand . And even the dealers can be the most uneducated people out there..and they done even care ..Case in point the damage done to my dash on a simple install of an aux port..Dealer ate $150 part plus the labor to put it in cause one of the noobs didnt have a clue what he was doing. I think they are all crooks. I would rather pay someone like subaru360 to do the work..cause people like him are getting 100% of the money to support thier families..and they are more likely to take thier time and do it right..and be honest about any problems they find.
  15. I just lost my XT6 to similar rust...not as bad around the rockers though..just all frame...Was going to attempt to save it until I jacked it up and the car bent in ways ..that they shouldnt.. I invested alot of time ..blood...and money into it. And you are right about the PA crap.( I am originally from there till about 5 years ago)But whatever they put down here in CT take a car out in a year.
  16. I just ran my 235K mile 83 coupe....600 miles a couple weeks ago...no working guages ( digi dash is blown) All it had prior was a tune up while in seattle before it spent a week on a car carrier heading to CT..since then its been snuggled in the garage and had a couple short runs...It did wonderful..actually did it good to get a good long run..smoothed everything out. You should be fine...EA81 = Bulletproof .....slow but bulletproof:) Have faith in the Subaru
  17. So he is all clean and back together..so I will definately keep an eye on things...probably going to replace all those hoses in the future.. Another project I did today was to "fix LBs faded pealing nose ( we all know that "chrome" flakes off.) and his grill was pretty faded too so> Before ( kinda hard to tell) After: And for the curious..Me actually...Hope your monitors dont break:
  18. I plan on doing a complete reseal when I put the WeBer on....also upgrading to the XT6 Alt...so when I have the valve covers off I will be able to clean them and check for gunk inside... Sometiimes I have to remind myself..for as good as it looks ..it still has 235K miles on it
  19. OK I pulled all the lines..and cleaned them all out with some carb cleaner..there definately was a build up. I also found the line going to the drivers side valve cover was completely off. I re attached the cleaned the airbox out ..going to keep an eye on things for now and see what happens. Couldnt find whats clunking in the front..tie rod ends and ball joints are great.. Hear alittle noise in the axle but it doesnt click. I re tightened the bolts to the new front struts... And now LB is getting a face lift in the front ..pealing plastic chrome and faded grill..are no more Pics to come.
  20. GD.. I definately checked all that..and in fact its all dry...right down to that side of the air box.....I have checked and double checked all the hoses to the PCV and every hose in between..and the one pictured is the only one wet inside...maybe just a fluke..I am going to check it all again though..better safe then sorry. And semneric...My Carter weber carb runs beautiful...it has a choke issue ( like someone hacked it off) and its all being swapped to a Weber 32/36 DVAC.Cause I drove one and I liked it.
  21. I am working on LB the 83 EA81 GL-10 coupe of absolute beauty....I wanted to look at the current carb set up to see what I am going to need to do once the Glorious Weber set up arrives ( Thanks Mark and Jerry!!) I pull off the airbox..and it is LOADED with oil..OK thats usually a PCV valve..but that was replaced while I was in Seattle with an OEM one. I cleaned out the oil that was there at that time. Fast Forward...It appears that all the hoses leading into the airbox are dry...except one..a small one that plugs into the lower left side of the airbox and lookks to go to the reed valve.. Also the reed valve appears to be the culprit of the spewing oil.. The wet hose goes to a metal line that goes under the intake ( I think) . My question is...Is this something I have to worry about once the Weber is on ore is it one of the ones that gets plugged off.. Pics are attached for reference to what I am trying to explain. small wet hose ( its wet inside) beside the ditsy.: and the airbox....you can see its wet around the reed valve: Thanks in advance!!
