Confession: Brake Pad Ignorance
Bucky92 replied to daeron's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Being a 6 year X newspaper delivery driver ( now thats hard on your tranny and brakes) I found that your cheap softer compounds seem to actually save you some headaches..if you are going to be going through brakes quick...They wont eat up your rotors like the harder compounds will...and I am talking about ...I used to be changing pads around every 3 months. I tried the more expensive harder compound pads thinking I would get more life out of them..and I did..around a month and ate away my rotors at the same time. I mean I was going through brakes so quick I kept the tools and an extra set of pads in the car and would change them on the side of the road at 4 am in roughly 10-15 minutes a side ( not in the subarus though.) Just a thought for you since you are hard on the car too being a delivery driver -
Just curious..is there anything in the air box??/ My 88 had an issue with that..was caused by a clogged line

I was suprised at this dealership..I have had bad dealings with them in the past and even reported them to SOA ..then went in awhile back when the 08 was just released to see one in person..ended up talking to one of the co-owners in the company...He said he would make right anything bad that happened in the past..he heard the story of my devotion and love to the cars..was suprised at my Subaru tattoo...etc..When I went in earlier last week to discuss actually buying either a new/used or a new/new.. I went to the same Co-owner guy..he tossed me a plate and the keys to one of the 08s and said to "have fun" When I got back he had the big owner there and he said he told him the whole deal..the big big guy said that they WILL get me into that car at what I want to pay. On Sat when I went in again after a believed turn down..and we did the whole ordering of the car and all..the dealer said that its sales like this that they love...Ones where the buyer is almost in tears and holding back wanting to scream....Not just the "Yeah bought a new car:-\ " people. Can't wait to pick it up  -

Yup Buckster was even known to get 42 on a long haul highway run at around 73 mph...Here is the scoop...FWD 5 spd...keep it tuned well...I was running 175/70 R13s on him..hold up..175 front and he had 185 rears for awhile cause they were free tires... You are going to have alittle trouble until you loose the 3AT...once that is gone and a 5 spd in it place you will have noticable difference..not just in gas mileage either. For now..put a new 02 sensor in..keep it good and tuned make sure you have a clean air filter in it...make sure your wheel bearings are good and you have good tires at the right pressure..and you should be good to go. Like I mentioned..your gas mileage anchor is that 3AT -

Thats a nice XT!!! I wish you the best of luck...many of the member from the XT board frequent here..but the knowledge on them is amazing over there. There is a new user approval thing over there but if you let someone like joost or me or turbone or grossgary know..we can let them know and get you approved I have to say..I have also found that our friends from native non-english speaking countries speak and spell english much better then we do. -

I like the simple interior.....as for leg room... thats never an issue with me being only about 5 ft 4 inches. And in all honesty..I hated the 08s when they first came out..but I looked at it 4 times now and it grew on me. I have never owned a brand new new car before ( I did have a 94 leftover Ranger way back) and to get one exactly the way I want it is why I went with the 08. I still have my XT6 for the old Subaru nastalgia when I want it:grin: .. -

The only reason why driving may not be in the picture is the whole...time off work thing.New job and all...and if I was going to drive out..I would want about 2 weeks off..Flying would give me more time to spend with some people I care alot about ( they know who they are;) ). But Driving might just happen...just like we are planning on going to FL to visit Tommys parents over christmas...we were going to fly but know we just might drive.( I have a feeling I am going to like driving alot more again) -
There is a member in Honduras who has done the ER27 in an EA car..Jeszek knows how to do it and has done fantastic work on his. Look up posts by a member called Loyale 2.7 Turbo..He is a wiz with these things and a super nice member too ( OMG I need to kick myself ..I havent talked to him in awhile...sorry Jeszek sweety!!)

I am still trying to picture what my car is going to look like period...they didnt have any white ones on the lot..and none with the roof rack ..so this is going to be interesting. Yes it is an ego boost...I also keep asking Tommy if he thinks I made a mistake by jumping into this right now...should I have waited till spring?? Am I crazy... I never even think of going with a first year model or redesign ..wait till the bugs are worked out...I look at my bill of sale sitting onmy desk and dont think its real. I have dreamed for many years about a brand new Subaru. -

*Bad Update* Buying an 87 XT. Any words?
Bucky92 replied to testy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I too am dealing with a rusty underbody XT6...mine is more local to the front uni-body frame rails...Now you make me want to just double check those points too.. I am planning on having mine fixed. Looks like someone tried to fix that cross member once before. Check where your seat belts attach to the floor pans..that is another common rust point. I have seen much worse and still being driven..but I honestly think a good metal guy can do something.. Dont give up hope...these are tough cars
