Bucky92 replied to nipper's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks but the dealer never called back..probably cause my credit is too poopy to get the payment where I want it..so no new car for me. ( Like I would expect any different:-\ ) Stuck with my 93 garbage Imp with 235K miles that I just dont like a whole lot

*Bad Update* Buying an 87 XT. Any words?
Many have driven without the suspension..riding on the bump stops...but not very enjoyable from what I understand..like Turbone said...dont plan on keeping your kidneys if you do. My XT came from the factory with a 6 cyl in it;) fits just nice a cozy too

Just checking in...
Congrats!! I used to have a Justy...and it really wasnt bad at all to work on.I had a little FWD 5 spd..what are gas pumps??? I saw them rarely!!! I used mine for a newspaper delivery car and it never gave me any problems..till one of the main bearings in the motor started to go...but I still drove it for 10K miles like that.awesome little cars!!

*Bad Update* Buying an 87 XT. Any words?
all I can say is about the air suspension....swap it to coil over...the air can be a bugger to get working again or expensive to replace. Plus the coil over will stiffen the car up. go to http://subaruxt.com/forum for all your XT needs

XT Turbo...Used purchase..what to look for?
I dont know how your rust issues are....but thats a big factor with them ( yes we have the 1.8 turbos here) the front unibody likes to rot away. They are also very very prone to headgasket failure..all EA82Ts are..If it has the air suspension..thats another failure point and can be extremely expensive to fix unless you just do what most of us do..and swap it over to coil over.It can also be hard to find parts for...but all in all they are a fun car...I have an XT6 model and once all the bugs were worked out its a fun car. so basically..head gaskets, air suspension, unibody rot, and brittle wireing are some issues..I am sure others will chime in on more things:) Also go to http://subaruxt.com/forum for all your XT needs

More ea82 abuse!! Why do people try to...
Those poor 3ATs suck..At least you know and understand...those EJ27 love to haul...and feel good doing it.If I baby it..it will stall and give me grief..when I "play" it will purr like a kitten for weeks...Think I am taking the XT6 to work today instead of the Imp;)

More ea82 abuse!! Why do people try to...
I am bad ...especially when I drive the XT6...45-50 in 30 zones ( unless its residential) usually around 80+ highway...and I beat the snot out of it..but it likes it..seems to run better if I dont baby it..I have pegged the speedo too ( at 135:eek: ) ...I am always a 10 or more over the speed limit kind of driver...I know..I am bad. back on subject...around here the whole EA series is becoming rarer by the day..I have seen maybe 8 EA82s and 3 EA81s around...and toss in the XTs..even less...I pretty much know who has them

EA82 ready for winter holiday
I found a picture of my XT6 with snow in it...and before it turned into the bumblebee that it is now ( and dont forget it uses the same platform as the EA82s ) Too bad in this shot you cant see what a rot box it was at the time>:

Bucky92 replied to nipper's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMe too.. I was looking at a white 5 door ( I just love white cars) and we are trying to figure out how to get the payments down to affordable...Going to have to save up alot more for a down payment...it really sucks when your trade in is a POS and they want you to pay them to take it off your hands;)

Bucky92 replied to nipper's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMy husband and myself have been discussing..that maybe this spring..well we might break down and finally get me a new new car.We are seeing how things go with my new job..And I have been seriously leaning toward the 08 OBS .. It is killing me not having a wagon around..and the 08 wagon I fell in love with is ALOT more then I want to spend ( Outback Turbo Wagon ) And the new Imp 5 door is slowly growing on me...I am planning on taking one out for a test drive soon.I need a 5 door or a wagon..I hate having a sedan ...

EA82 ready for winter holiday
This is about it for my pics of my/backwoodsboys Loyale involving snow.... I hate the cold and I hate snow so I like to stay inside in front of the fireplace watching out my big picture window. I am curious how the Imp is going to be..never really got to drive my XT6 in the snow cause it was broke down alot last year..and it will never see road salt again
-
'92 subie loyale has a cold & cool start problem
Just curious...when you are cranking it over...when cool or cold...is it cranking slowly or at the same speed as when warm? You mentioned you put a new coolant temp sensor in it... have you tried resetting the ECU? Just trying to get some ideas and some really simple fixes first.

Seafoam won't water down the oil will it?
Just pour some in till it reaches the full mark...about a half a can( I have never used more then half a can in the crank case)..run it for at least 100 miles ...just make sure you dont over fill

34th Annual Halloween Party!
Sorry to disapoint..but I think we are just going to bring the impreza up...its pouring out and I still havent gone over the Rockster ( check oil etc) and his trunk still need emptied and stuff swapped from the Imp ( travel stuff..jack etc). On a good note...I am making home made banana bread and pumpkin bread to bring up:grin: ..OK back to the kitchen;)

My Crash in the Soob.
Bucky92 replied to jonfit04's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI hit 3 deer while delivering newspapers a few years ago...one was in my Justy doing about 65 on the highway...all it did was put a small dent in the hood.... I am terrified now though cause I have a good commute to work..all back roads and days I drive my XT6 I am just terrified...If anything happened to that car I would die. Seems you do less damage at higher speeds then slow..like the Justy...it just leg swiped it and it flew over the car...yet when I hit one doing 25 in my crappy Cavalier..over $1700 It doesnt matter..it sucks to hit anything..

I smell trouble
Ben...since Guido is your DD and you NEED him for work ( I totally understand where you are at...been there..many many times) Here is what i would do...start NOW acrewing parts..even if you can only grab a couple dollar gasket..start now..Look for used but good parts cheaper for now ( JY,board members, etc). Then once you have everything invite some friends over ..offer food ... ( I know you said money is an object but even cheap food..hot dogs.. mac and cheese..you have it..they will come) and have a fix the car party...you would be amazed the amount of work that can get done with multiple hands.Have them bring tools etc..They dont all have to be Subaru friends. I have been in your shoes ( actually still am I need a ton of work on my Imp that I cant do by myself) I know 100% how you feel and if I was closer I would be one of those people to come help. I will still donate to the cause somehow. As for ball joints...sometimes you can find a whole good set up cheaper at the JY ( complete Hub assembly ) for cheap that might be an option also thats how I got one new one on the XT6

The "QUIRK" Myth
Bucky92 replied to LosDiosDeVerde86's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI think alot of this has to come down to personal preference...wether you feel the "quirkie" thing is appearence or performance or just the little things. I personally feel that my Impreza has no "quirkiness" to it..I find it boring and plain and lacking something...maybe personality? But its my daily driver ..thats what I wanted it for and I love it..just trying to give it some personality. My XT6...Now that is "quirky" ..Like someone mentioned on the XT6 sight...its a sheep in wolfs clothing. The 08 is starting to grow on me abit..I havent driven one yet..but the styling is growing on me... Basically..its all what you want the car for... You want something for Daily drivingthat dependable..there is nothing worng with getting an 08..there are or will be plenty of aftermarket parts available to add some individuality to it. You want "quirk" you keep and older one around for those days you just want to be different...Thats what I do with my XT6...drive it once a week just for fun...take it to shows etc..the rest of the time I use my Imp. If I could afford an 08 Imp would I buy it??? Damn Skippy! Its actually a nice car ( Not as sexy as that 08 Turbo Outback Wagon I looked at though:slobber: :slobber: :slobber: :slobber: ) Like I said..It all comes down to personal preference. My person favorite Subaru is an EA82 wagon ( many people hate them and think this is better or thats better) But thats MY choice...if we all felt the same and thought the same and liked the same and hated the same...it would be a pretty boring world

Seafoam won't water down the oil will it?
I poured half the can into my crankcase on the Imp right after the first oil change..since the old oil was OMG thick and black..ran that sucker for over 3000 miles without any problems. Drained it and it was fine..the only reason why the oil appeared thinner was cause it was still on the warm side when I drained it. Seafoam MMO ATF...all does about the same thingin the crankcase...its all a personal preference . They are all detergents and if you have an oil leak thats seems small because of all the gunk around the leak..well.these detergents may make it worse...but the benefits out wiegh that oil leak...come-on..we all own Subarus and dont they come from the factory with an oil leak? Wouldnt you rather know that your internals are working right and clean and have to add a quart of oil every week or 2 or 3? Or better yet just fix the leak the right way. I have run Seafoam and MMO in both my crankcase and gas tank for many many years on many many cars and never had an issue caused by either product. In fact many years ago back in 97 or 98 when I had my 88 GL wagon...a mechanic friend of mine ( Owned half the junk yard I worked at..only person who could figure out my smoking problem..even when the dealer couldnt and 6 other garages) told me to swap out a quart of oil for ATF with every oil change...explained that the ports are small and get easily gummed up...the ATF helps clean them..keep them clean and I should never have the smoking issue again as long as I do that. So let me see...ran Bucky (EA82) for 5 years on seafoam and MMO...motor fine...ran Rocky ( XT6)1 year on seafoam...runs like a raped ape and no leaks.. been running Pheebie ( EJ18 ) on Seafoam for 5000 miles no issues cept found her oil leak ( good thing now I can fix that)
