  1. Started up my 83 coupe...coldest start so far on new motor and weber...choke still isnt working but it caught on 3rd try. Then purred like a kitten. I finally decided to put the ign switch back together hoping that the electrical issue is fixed. ( getting tired of using a screw driver) So far so good..after sitting all day after the run and repair..I just went out to check everything..and L.B. started without even having to touch the gas pedal. If this charging system holds.. I will be having an ign switch and keys along with door cyl for sale. Still not confident enough to put the Digi dash back in him yet.. I do need to change the oil on him..still has the motor break in stuff...also want to drain the gas tank.. 2 year old gas with probably a gallon of Stabil probably isnt the best for him. Problem is..he has 3/4 of a tank!!.
  2. You dont have to drop the tank..there is access to it on the top side through the back of the car..in the cargo area. I had to replace the sender on mine since it didnt work at all
  3. my 95 Legacy AWD can go 2-3 weeks without the CEL coming back on after a clear for the 0420 code...and I put about 100 miles a day on it. You should still be getting better the 21 mpg with it... I think most get around 27mpg? Mine used to but now it gets terrible mileage ( around 21...brought it up some due to the front tires being under-inflated and havent checked it since)...but I am also spoiled with my 08 Impreza getting 32mpg..anything under 30 I usually complain about
  4. I only want mine pulled to have the car repainted..since there is a touch of rust under the gasket that needs addressed. Mine stays in the garage 99% of the time and isnt allowed to see rain/snow/ or any element ever again. ( I even have a cover for it if it has to be outside for any reason). If it wasnt being restored..I would just shoot some clear silicone sealer in there and call it a day..done that enough times Oh ...here is the ebay link for the guy who sells the replacements: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120237798417&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:AU:1123
  5. There is a guy in Australia that makes the replacement gaskets for the coupes.. they can not be found in the US ( ask us other coupe owners how we know this). Do a search and you should find a thread I did with the link to the company who makes them. The problem I am having is finding a glass company willing to pull my rear window so I can send it to be repainted.. they dont want to touch it since the replacement glass is super expensive if it can even be found. ( I have tried a few and WONT do it myself)
  6. Nice job Steve!! I need to practice with my welder more..I see that and wish I could do repairs like that.. I am just the body filler queen.. but right now the only thing I need to weld is a 3 inch hole in the trunk of the coupe. and that doesnt have to be pretty.
  7. you would have to find a tire that is within 1/4 inch in diameter ( total circumference of the tire) to the rest..which is extremely small honestly. Good luck with it... I picked up my 95 legacy LS wagon for $250 with a bad tranny..swapped in a used tranny and its been dependable now for 12K miles. If the seller ..you dont trust..I would suggest doing the timing belt change very soon..probably wasnt done since most people dont know how to do them themselves and the thought of a $600-$800 repair bill keeps them from doing it.
  8. I had it ALOT worse on my 92 Loyale...the whole inner wheel well was gone on both sides.. we ended up cutting it out and backwoodsboy welded in new metal, then I filled in the smaller holes with fiberglass.then after it was all done I put a couple heavy coats of undercoating in...needless to say..the car is still fine..and has passed a few years worth of NY inspections.
  9. Torque bind would require replacing the tail shaft on the tranny. also.. 110K miles..if it hasnt been done the car WILL need the timing belt, pulleys, tensioner and water pump..also probably swap out the cam seals since you would already be there.( you can pick up the timing belt kit on ebay..then you would just want to get a water pump) all of which is easy to do. I have a 95 Legacy I bought needing a transmission..swapped it and have put 12K miles on it to keep mileage off my 08 Impreza. Sounds like this seller has a legitimate excuse as to why he couldnt be available
  10. you should be looking at an EJ22..one of the most bullet proof motors made..next to the EA81..which btw..didnt have timing chains..they were pushrod... EJ22s should be non-interference..the 97 could be hit or miss with that..95-96 are definate. Torque bind is a concern..just do slow tight circles and listen and feel for it... you will know if it has it. Also find out when the timing belt was done last..not that its a big deal..super easy to change. Rust is the other thing with it being a philly car. good luck
  11. one of the timing belts is probably broke.. crank it over and see if the ditsy is spinning..thats usually the one that goes.. if not..thats your problem.. its one of the most common problems with the EA82 that people dont think to look at. Oh doh ..should have read the whole thing still make sure timing hasnt jumped or that the new ditsy was put in right...otherwise..I would just look for a broken wire.. those motors are usually something stupid that causes no spark. And congrats.. I want to trade my 95 Legacy for an 88-89 GL wagon.. I miss having an EA82 bodystyle car around.
  12. yup.. the 96 OB is the covetted one.. I have a legacy and honestly.. I dont like it.. its heavy and slow...compared to my Impreza. I would gladly trade it for an OBS or an 88-89 GL wagon. you will get better gas mileage with the OBS also
  13. the hatch with the plow was owned by themoneypit here in CT...as far as I know he still has it.
  14. Nice Pic Gary.. I have tried to explain this concept to people and they dont want to listen..but that picture says it all.
  15. I actually did something to my coupe today... havent touched the thing since August. Its been cold here lately so I wanted to see how the battery was holding up since I had that BAD drain earlier in the year. Fought with getting it started since the choke doesnt work on it..but battery was fully charged and after 3 tries.. He fired right up. Ran him for about 20-25 minutes ..got him nice and warmed up ( runs a at steady 171.2 degrees!! I love my digital temp gauge ) If LB didnt have a flat tire I might have taken him for a quick spin around the block ( though he is naked..no fender or lights or bumpers.)
  16. I am only getting maybe 20 mpg..out of mine..200 miles to a tank..its pitiful considering I am getting 460+ miles to a tank with my Imp..and its got the bigger motor. This is unacceptable considering I put 100 miles a day on a car Plus my Lego feels like its towing an anchor...I hate the car because of this. I dont want to toss any money at this car on guess work. I hope yours gets worked out easily Kyle.. I know mine drives me insane..have to clear the code once a week. ( I have a reader in the car and have been known to clear it on the fly)
  17. Kyle.. I have the same problem with my Legacy...havent tried running higher octane in it yet... but how is your gas mileage? Mine Sux and the car is a slug. and I dont feel like putting a new Cat on the thing. The 0420 is the rear O2..and I was reading somewhere about a way to fool it but forget where I saw it.
  18. I remember giving the part number to you before..when you were bugging me to sell mine to you. I dont have them handy right now
  19. I got my pair from someone who works for Subaru..and he said they were the last pair. but sometimes they show up on ebay. A couple people have found them there.
  20. I loved my Justy it was a 90 FWD 5 spd...kinda wished I had another one. Nice car!
  21. Ah .. thats right... well..its a great motor!! I couldnt be happier with it. I wish the owner of Superoo would have brought it to Carlisle..now that would have been a sight
  22. I think most car manufacturers are going the way of plastic... we just had a loaner Toyota while my husbands Tacoma was in for the frame recall... that car was even cheaper made then the Roos. With exception of the high high end cars.. I believe people are going to have to the 'plasticness' And actually.. I look at my 95 Lego..and it has tons of plastic also..mist of it is just covered with cheaply glued on material..or clipped on material covered cardboard panels.
  23. Thats the same place that did my XT6 in...mine was worse though...you are still at the saveable point actually if you want to put some work into it..welding and cutting.... that is to us N easterners.
  24. Kinda sounds like what my evil XT6 did when its coil was going belly up...would run great for a few miles and die...seemed wierd but once it cooled off for 10-15 minutes..it would run fine agagin for a few miles. I agree ...also ..about them getting jealous... I have a few moody ones myself.
