  1. sweet!!.. Isnt my EA81 motor the one that was once either used in that or was going to be used and wasnt?
  2. Having owned enough of the various years Subarus..I can say this.. My 08 Imp 5 spd AWD has been far superior then my 88 XT6 FT4WD with diff lock ..in rain snow and whatever is thrown at it. My 95 Legacy..well I just dont like it..could be the fact its an AT and I hate ATs. I had more problems with my XT6 then anything I ever owned. My 92 Loyale had its issues ..but never left me sit or had to come home on a tow truck. It had wheel bearings go out just as much as my Legacy has. I put a TON of miles on my cars.. And try to keep them for awhile.. Liek I have said plenty of times.. I have had my 08 Impreza now for 2 years...42K miles..without any problems. I look at it this way.. for every 1 complaint about something..there are 10 people who havent had any problems.. you only hear about the bad..I see so many EJ25s that have well over 200K and never had the head gasket issue.... I have seen ER27s with 110K miles fail.. EA82s with 60K fail....EA82s with 230K miles on them and still fine. I think its all how they are taken care of. I like the new commercials..cause ..to me ..it shows that the car can still be used for more then being the grocery go getter... I think thats the point they are trying to get across
  3. Thats good to hear actually... cause the first reports I heard were shortly after it was released ( within a couple weeks) I am hoping it doesnt turn out like the disaster that the CVT did in the Justy...not that I drive ATs. I know my Impreza gets alot better gas mileage then its rated for also..rated at 27 I get 32+ regularly
  4. The 08 Imp 2.5i sedan AT I had as a loaner while my 08 Imp2.5i 5DR 5 spd was in getting some paint and body work fixed ( dealer caused) ..did the same thing... I was extremely happy when I got mine back..and reinforced my liking for MT cars. But I have read that the CVT is even suckier..but no one on the board has one yet to say if this is true or not
  5. your question has already been answered...NO EA82s have 2 timing belts ..Belts...and they run about $50 for the pair..then new tensioners. ( which should be installed.) are a few more dollars...its been awhile since I have messed with them enough to remember the cost. EA82 .. Chain ..NO belts YES
  6. and people wonder why I prefer N/A cars..even though its judged on the people who drive them http://autos.yahoo.com/articles/autos_content_landing_pages/1125/safety-agency-lists-best-worst-cars-to-insure/
  7. XT headlight switches are known to have some stinking issues..sometimes just a little wiggle the right way fixes it..others is a new switch....as for the windshield...when I had mine replaced a few years ago on my XT6....it was close to $300 the best source for XT/XT6 info it at the link that GD posted.
  8. I am still running my Potenzas on my 08 Imp..( 42K miles) But you know the run... you can swap 1 only if you are within 1/4 inch total circumference of the rest of the tires. I know ..for my Imp..the Potenzas run about $179-$209 each for it ( stupid speed ratings) I am looking for the ones I am planning on putting on when these are shot and cant find them..they were about $90 each..same speed rating ..all weather directionals..and now I cant find them..UGH!!!!
  9. I have to say...+1 on this... I like everything better about my 08 Imp then my 95 Legacy.. 32+ mpg .. roomier...more responsive...and its the base model..cant get any more stripped down( except if I would have bought the sedan) I have taken mine on many long hauls(1400 miles to FL then 1400 miles back). Like I stated.. have owned mine for 2 years without any issues.... over 41K miles on it. I wouldnt trade mine for anything...the legacy on the other hand... Seems many forget also..the Impreza 2.5i is the bottom of the line car that Subaru sends here..and for the same price you could get a Focus and not have the AWD.
  10. You know..all this has been brought up about the new design for the past 2 years now. The WRX and STis have the temp guage...and many other makers have been using the idiot light for years now. I am sorry to say..but with all the complaints about the car..why not have her turn it back in or sell it. I know quite a few people who have bought them and have the same views as myself.. we love them even though it is the Econo-box of the subaru line up. And so you know.. depending on the color...the cars have paint issues..all of which have been addressed over in NASIOC....along with every other issue people have had.
  11. +1 ..I pulled the factory AC out of mine and it definitely makes a cleaner working area.
  12. Just a question...does your girlfriends car have the roof rack system? If so either try taking it off or just removing the rubber strips. Mine used to make a terrible vibration at about 40 mph...was kinda hard to find at first. I remove the strip unless I have something up there.. I also made sure they are very tight . Another thing I have heard others having..if noise ( like a creaking sound) iscoming from the front window pillars. Had thier dealers stuff it with styrofoam and it solved it. I would try taking the car to another dealer since it seems the one she is going to..is more of an inconvience then having to travel some. I am sorry she is disappointed... I truly love mine ..hate my legacy..but love my Imp.
  13. Thats odd..mine has been flawless..at 41K miles not a single issue. The sound system is fine and the car is quiet excpet for roof rack noise..which used to rattle until I pulled the rubber strips out. I am even still on the original tires with 3/4 tread left. Guess there is a lemon in everything. and compaired to the 09 Corolla my husband is using for a loaner while his tacoma is in for the frame recall... my 08 Impreza is like a luxury car...talk about cheap.
  14. why not try and install them yourself..its really not too bad of a job. I have done them on Imprezas and my Legacy. And as for the CR-V..lets just say ..my husbands 2001 Toyota Tacoma with a bad frame ( its off right now having a new one installed ..thanks to the recall) was rear ended by one. It was going maybe 20 mph.... Honda totaled..Tacoma..had a scratch. Entire front end of the CR-V was trashed
  15. I looked at my 83 coupe as I walked by it sitting in the garage looked at my 08 Impreza as I walked by it to go somewhere I had to shampoo the complete interior of my 95 Legacy ( the beater POS daily driver) because one of my dogs thought it would be cool to poo inside it while I was inside the bank...then he made sure he spread it ALL over.:-\ I mean I call it a POS all the time but that doesnt mean its ok to do THAT inside it!
  16. I wouldnt expect any less from you John... I have seen first hand your.... redneckiness..hehehehehe
  17. I told you before but the world just seems to think I dont have a brain.... low mileage doesnt mean poo... all it says is it was sitting..alot or just run on short runs...which is worse for a motor then being driven alot. Your 74K motor sat for how long in a JY? then... for how long before it made it to the JY? Cars that sit and havent been run for a long time have problems...seals dry rot, moisture gets into places and cause pits etc. Sure you can find a car thats been sitting for 10 years and have it fire right up...but I can bet money in a short period of time its going to have some age related issues. I have explained this concept to you numerous times and you havent listened... but what do I know..I have only owned and worked on over 45 cars all makes and models. I would rather have a 200K mile motor that leaks alittle that I know has been driven then one thats low mileage and been sitting...this is why ..even though I will never finish my coupe and care less too..I at least go out and start it and run it for a good 20+ minutes every other week...more in the winter I have followed that car enough ..it smokes and smokes a good bit..every time you let off the gas or the car shifts.
  18. This thread is more reason for why I am not offroading my Legacy again. I was lucky and didnt get water in mine..but I have other problems caused by it.
  19. Subaru went to all AWD in 96.. everything prior is either FWD or AWD/4WD depending on car.
  20. Anyway... this is about Crayolas coupe...Congrats!!! still looking forward to new pictures of it. Are you thinking of putting a weber on it?
  21. Nice Score!!! I scored LB for $400..so you made out. GL? Bumper is different and you have the honeycomb grill ( which I am adding to LB) Nice. Cant wait to see more pics of that beauty. But I am toying with the idea of putting LB back together and either driving him as is..or selling him... Tired of being insulted by board members for wanting to dump money into the car to save/ restore it for many years to come. Someday they will be gone ..or close to gone..and a nicely restored one will go for a nice dollar amount. But right now the only thing people see are Brats being worth something.. there were fewer coupes made and they are harder to come by.
  22. I agree..the price is too high.. I looked at a used Impreza at that price when I went with my 08 instead..more car for the money. And to the 08/09 haters...the 08/09s have more HP...more interior space..adults can fit comfortably in the back seat ( BtW I have the 5 door)When the back seat is folded down it has a TON of cargo space...not nearly as much as my Legacy but that thing is so heavy and lathargic and a gas hog. The Imprezas handle much nicer and get way better gas mileage...it is not uncommon for me to get into the mid 30s mpg in mine. And lets just say..I have had my 08 now for 2 years..40K miles and its been 100% trouble free. But you will get what you want..look at different cars and get the one that feels right to you.. dont go so much by what others tell you.
  23. Its probably been ticking long enough that the lash adjusters are due to be replaced...its a fairly easy job and, I believe the parts are rather cheap. Its caused usually at first by the sucked in mickey mouse gasket..but then dirt will get in there and can permanently clog them. Once that happens then they should be replaced if the other methods of cleaning them doesnt work....or you can just turn the radio up louder. I always just ran mine tickin if the seafoam didnt work. I am sure someone else can step up to the replacement of them
  24. Its worse here... everyone thinks their garbage is worth top dollar. I find legacys all the time..non-running or bad trannys..and they always want $750+ even for rusty old Gen 1 legos. That cav you posted..that would be a $900 car here for example. I went and looked at a 93 Loyale once.. rotted to pieces..didnt run..hadnt ran in a couple years..motor covered in rodent party leftovers. .. $450 firm. And I thought ..if I sell my 95 Legacy.that asking $1200 would be too much... cant even get a 90 Lego for that here. I seem to find the best deals off of CL. or..after seeing the market..I look elsewhere and will either go get it and drive it back, or have it delivered..its sometimes worth it
