  1. hatchsub and subeman90 have 2 of the nicest ones I have seen: hatchsubs sweet baby: and subeman90s beautiful Blackie:
  2. Jeszek..this was so easy..I dont know why I waited...and if I ever have another EAanything with rear drum I am doing the swap..its basically..I would say an hour a side max..if everything comes apart nice. Took me awhile cause of a confidence issue ..I kept rechecking and re reading my step by step print out I had.. Who's next?? I am ready to do it again:)
  3. I did not have the lockers that you use a cotter pin for ( or a nail) .. Mine went..bearings washer crimp ring ( a easily bendable washer basically ) then the nut..there is a guide grove in the spindle and little nubs in both the washer and the crimp ring...once you have it all together and the nut torqued I took a screw driver and bent one side up on the crimp ring tight against the flat side of the nut. a couple taps with a hammer on the screw driver made it all tight..If it wasnt raining right now I could go out and pull the hub cap and the dust sheild and take a pic. This is my pic for the order of bearings and such...second from the end is a battered looking washer..thats the crimp ring.. I hope that helps some It helps if I add the picture
  4. LMAO..well its going to be for food and company...Since I have Buckys brakes done now..unless I buy new axles it should be a work free cook-out...unless we are going to be working on someone elses. OH! and thanks for the Bumpity Bump!
  5. Thanks Skip!!! You are the bestest ..thats another one of my Bucky projects..I only have 1 and 3 though and 2 if I hold the switch a certain way..4 is dead in the water though:-\
  6. You know...we just need pics ..thats just how it is:lol: Welcome to your new obsession...like heartless said..these are usually VERY VERY dependable cars...just dont expect alot of power..they are only around 90 hp..but dependability makes up for power...and the FWD 5 spds get great gas mileage..if everything is tuned right..good tires etc..you can get better mileage then these so-called hybrids.. My 92 Loyale ( same thing as your GL just in 90 they changed the name) FWD 5 spd has 203K ..has been known to get 40+ mpg highway....but averages between 36-38 highway..32 city. If you live where there is snow..nice snow treads on the front and its almost as good as the 4WD ones. I bought mine almost 5 years ago for $600 and I will not part with it for anything..So easy to work on and learn on.. I also have an 88 XT6 which is a blast to drive...fast and handles fantastic...but most of the time I would rather drive my Loyale wagon. If you run into any problems this board is the BEST source of info..the members here are amazing and basically...will become family to you. Welcome..now get us some pics;)
  7. Steve..this swap was suprisingly easy... I dont know why I was afraid to do it a long time ago...because the doner parts were from a FWD also I didnt have to swap out trailing arms cause the spindles are different sizes between FWD and 4WD.. basically...pull off your old drums, shoes and all..unhook the brake like from the backing plate...take off the backing plate..put on the new backing plate from the doner brakes..I used all the parts fromt he doner down to the wheel bearings and spacers...after the new backing plate in on add the spacer the inner bearing the new rotor the outer bearing the washer crimp ring and the nut..bolt on the new caliper hook up the break line to the caliper ( remember to bend the line out of the way..check and re check after assembly that it isnt getting pinched or hitting anything ( like the tire) bleed it all out..put on the dust cover and you are good to go. This was literally too easy to do. And since the little blue jay is just so adorable ..here are some more: and here was our other visitor..a big old snapping turtle..cant you tell we are both animal lovers
  8. Thanks Everyone!!!! So here are some pics for the picture hounds: pass side..I will fix that hole in the next few days....also this is the side I knocked the bump stop off: The drivers side....disk brakes are so pretty!! and this is my birdie friend who sat beside me for awhile and watched.
  9.  :headbang: :headbang:   I dont think there is enough emoticons made to express how I feel right now....Buckys rear brakes are done!!!he is now in the club of the 4 wheel disk club!! It may have taken me alittle bit longer then most people but I got it done...Bled the system out ( the old brake fluid looked cloudy) and now I have brakes again!..I stood on them hard and no lock ups just a nice smooth fast stop...I can't believe I didnt do this sooner.. Next will be new tires and front swing arm bushings ...then my next big personal hurdle will be axles. Tommy only helped when with getting the brake lines off the old backing plate cause I was starting to round them off. Another great investment is one of those one man brake bleeder kits...so worth the $7. I also had alittle visitor helping me ...a baby blue jay thought it would be fine to hang out and watch for a bit...I have picture of the little guy just none when he was right beside me...I will post later..guess I should make breakfast now since it is noon and clean up my mess
  10. I Forgot to mention yesterday..in all my excitement about the disk swap parts and other happenings involving Subarus ...I noticed that Buckys one bump stop looked funny...I juts wiggled it a teeny tiny bit and it broke off Since his rear shocks are on the old age weak side he does once in awhile bottom out ( only when loaded). What do you think would be a good way to re-attach it??? Gorilla Glue? Epoxy? Its rubber to metal and it looks like it was just glued on somehow to begin with. Going to have to get busy here soon this morning..we are inline for some heavy rains today and I want to get this done before it hits. I am getting so excited about having my baby back...little things like the wipers in the rain ( I am not too fond of the XT6s single wiper set up ) my stereo that I can hook my mp3 player too. ....next thing is going to be tires then axles....and I am going to try to do them myself...I feel that if I can successfully do this disk swap I can do anything on that car:grin:
  11. no not the same the rears are much smaller.. As for the family comments...you arent kidding ..even though there are some member we are closer too then others its all one big happy mildly disfunctional family:lol: . I can't even express how thankful I am to certain members...there are just no words for it. But these same members I would bend over backwards to help out just the same... Isnt it funny how you may never meet someone face to face but you just become close threw this computer thingy.
  12. My Bucky is at 203,000 now ( 92 Loyale) and Rocky is at 168,000 one the chassis about 28 or 29,000 on the motor ( the XT6)
  13. These are from a FWD turbo something...so everything is fitting together perfect and it included new wheel bearings ( I was reading up and any EA82 turbo ..Xt GL-10 etc will have the 4 wheel disk..so finding a ...say ..FWD XT turbo ..it will have the proper pasts...just swap backing plates and everything down to the hardware is the same) The only problem I had was my brake lines rounding off...so I have the other side soaking in PB Blaster overnight. Cant wait to see how well my boy stops ...and hopefully no more shakey shakey( that one rear side was horrible..cant believe I was driving him with a wheel bearing that bad).. After this is done ...I have a patch to install in the one wheel well and a couple bushings in the front sway bar its going to be new tires:banana: OH I got a new front fender today too from moosens ( y'all really need to look at him for some parts too he has a ton) and once I clean that up and repaint add pin striping I will put that on and Buck is going to look like new again. Might even put new bushings in his shifter to get rid of the slop.
  14. OMG thats not rust!! I could have that all fixed and repainted in a weekend...geesh...I wish I had a before pic of Buckys rear quarters and trunk area. I have plenty of Rocky though...bring that sweet little 3 door out here to CT and I will fix it and show you how to do it yourself. I am serious about telling you how to fix it ...just takes some patience..If I can do it ( and dont make me say it..and I am a girl) you can do it... Also get the paint code from the car..it should be on a tag under the hood or in a door and someone should be able to mix the color...just remember that age has faded your current paint
  15. OH I have one of those and a booster too for an EA82..once I get this back together and deside that mine isnt bad..you can have it
  16. I have the passenger side almost done...just need to run to home cheapo and pic up a couple bolts ( to hold the caliper to the backing plate ) and I am debating having a new piece of brake line made due to a small rounding off issue...or I will have this one shortened a tad and a new connector put on. Yeah those used pads looked so used ( NOT they look like new) ....but alittle thunderstorm is hampering my progress but its OK... Man..when I get to the West Coast Subaru Show ( maybe next year if I start saving now) Turbone...you are either going to get a big kiss or a kick in the pants or both. And for those member who read this who were as intimidated as me about doing the disk swap...with the step by step from here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=49975 and alittle common sence..this is really an easy swap...I dont know why I was so scared to do it. And Turbone and Skip you 2 :headbang:
  17. I just want to smack some of you members here:lol: .. I got a delivery today..a very heavy delivery from a little birdie who shall remain nameless ( Turbone!! I will get you back for this) who is very lucky they are not here cause I would strangulate them..but in a good way. This is what I found in this very heavy box: Complete everything to do a disk swap for Bucky. I dont know what to say..I am speachless...that is twice now in the past 24 hours a member has left me this way...just shy of being in tears. I dont even know what to say but Thank You. And best of all...I am confident that I can do this..
  18. My XT6 had more rust on it then that...not pretty but it is time consuming...but all fixable.
  19. I was thinking the same thing..pull the inside trim and see if you can get in there and ...with alot of patience...tap it out...OR drill a couple small holes into it from the outside and use some hooks etc and pull then patch the holes and repaint???
  20. I know with mine the AC is supposed to be new...but it does drain alot of power when I run it ( I can watch the volt meter drop a bit) along with actual power from the car. It does not get anywhere as close to Garys in the temp guage..but I dont trust mine at all since it never sits on cold even when the car is turned off. I am planning on some aftermarket guages later...after my wagon is back on the road...and I am going to look into the hose thing also. BTW I am running mine without T sat and the electric fan is jumped and runs continually when the car is running. Rad is good ..AC condensor looks like it went threw a war thats why I am leaning towards that
  21. I am actually following this closely Gary...cause it may help with Rockys problems..he ran as hot as yours before I pulled the T stat..I still dont have a new one yet cause my local Subaru dealer refuses to order parts for the old cars.... I am leaning towards the AC condensor on mine since that is in bad shape and the temp goes up ONLY when the AC is on.
  22. Your pair of Loyales would show very well here.. I just someday want to be able to go to the West Coast shows and see their Subies...rust free..and lifted ... :slobber: we can dream. OH! Subynut...if you have to just freshen up what you have on your wheels with some paint..or even get creative with a pair of hubcaps like I did on my Loyale. I love what you have at the top of your windsheild:) Nice looking car...Oh how I love an EA82 wagon!
  23. It stands for West Coast Subaru Show 9th year in a row:) wish I could go:-\
  24. Geesh....it took you long enough for the pics:rolleyes: :-p Sweet...you are going to have many people here :slobber: :slobber: Oh better late then never...welcome to you new addiction!!!!
