  1. The Countdown is on!! got a flyer today in the mail and got all excited ..had to run out and show Rocky. Matt..let me know ASAP if we need more funds for the tent so I can get some to you. Bumpity Bump...time is running out..get your entries in ASAP!
  2. I agree...I have done the same thing to get a better look at the one behind;)
  3. I got a WRX today on the way home with my XT6...he got me at the start but I caught up to him in no time..and passed him with just a small fight...guy was cool though...we gave each other a smile and the shocker.. I no if we had more room he probably would have had me..but niether of us wanted to embarrass a fellow subaru-ist. It is fun compairing our oldies to the new ones isnt it?
  4. Hold up here...how did this turn into ..my car needs a new radiator??? I am going to try the flush thingy and replace the temp sensor and thermostat first..and maybe the relay for the fan or just rewire it to always run....BEFORE spending a weeks paycheck or more on a radiator...plus I have a friend who when he puts in his new one is going to sell me his old one on the cheap....his XT6 runs at 1/4 or less at all times.
  5. Yup...Looking good...I have a thing for white EA82 wagons...you want to come over and wash my two?
  6. I someday want to take Rocky out and get him all muddy...sounds like a ton of fun!!!You should have gotten a shot of Hildie in action
  7. Me being the picture ho that I am..here is Rocky at the 150 mile mark rest stop in PA...I get him to cool down alittle bit I dont see any problem with making it to Carlisle and even the Dragon.
  8. Just made it back...350 mile round trip for Rocky...ran at half way steady whole trip cept for going up the mountains...Dave looked at the Rad and thinks its fine ...may just need a flush first...he also figured out the camber issue on Rockys right front...and thanks to having the suspension swap done..he was able to adjust it out. He too Rock for a spin so he can give his opinion. Everything went smooth..what a great road trip car...quiet and smooth riding....comfortable and wasnt too bad on gas...350 miles to the tank. Scored a beautiful perfect headlight for Bucky to replace the one he has with moisture in it...nothing old at Harrys ..many EA82s,Legs,Imps,Foresters, and Outbacks..2 justys and that was about it.
  9. Mary I feel your pain with having plans for something ....then finding a structural issue that wont allow for the plans....I am basically in the same boat with the XT6..has maybe another 2 years left in the frame before it will be completely unsafe. Unless I can find someone I can afford with the ability to fabricate new front frame rails and put them under...I may be in the market for another one and swap my good drive train out. It breaks your heart to have such plans and put so much work into to turn around and discover something like that. And then the budget..I know I surely dont have the money. Good Luck with it ...and Happy Easter:grin:
  10. Let me know what you come up with if you ever get this solved since mine seems to have a same problem...where does your gauge sit normally BTW..mine is at half way ..will move up to about 1/4 inch below hot then drop suddenly back to half.
  11. Copied from XT6.net thought I would get some more opinions/ideas. ..For my own piece of mind ( not that I have much left) I am taking Rocky on a small couple hour road trip Sat..to go see Melis in PA...I need Middlesworth too...this is also a small step to see if he can make it down to carlisle in May....and maybe I will trust him alittle more...As some of you know he appears to be running a shade hot...almost like a sticky thermostat.. I picked up a new one today and when I got home I felt around the radiator for warm/cold spots...Since it is a dual core rad..is the outter one supposed to be stone cold and the inner on warmer? Also I am thinking on adding some Water Wetter to it to cool it if some..anyone try this with any results?? We always ran it in our water cooled dirtbikes...but dont know how it is going to be on the car.... _________________ 92 Loyale wagon FWD 5 Spd... Bucky..the good son 88 XT6 5Spd Grey with rusty highlights..Rocky...possessed by some Demon..should have named him Damien
  12. Just be careful when flushing the heater cores..sometimes the added pressure can cause old weak spots to open up....plus the Subarus intake and outlets are vert close together and more times than not a flush doesnt help cause whats going in is coming straight out. Another thing to try is compressed air ...worked wonders on my old POC Taurus..after multiple times using water and the flush kits didnt do anything.. Good Luck and let us know how you make out
  13. I doubt we will be able to help this time...weekends are all I have to work on my cars..and I really need to get a ton of work done on both....specially with my wagon......before the XT6 gets me a speeding ticket or blows a head gasket ( he is having alittle hot issue right now)
  14. I get the same thing all the time with my XT6 Rocky....If I have to teach 1 more all rice Honda Civic or VW a lesson..I am going to want paid....At least the kids in thier Subarus just pull up along side and wave.....Of course it was funny to see the face of the kid driving VW when he was tapped out beside me...and I finally put mine in 5th and took off ( I was slightly over the 130 mark..poor kids jaw dropped and when he caught up to me at a light ...I just rolled down the window and said "Subaru....and how does it feel to be spanked by and old lady?" ..I need to get my wagon back on the road and save Rocky for the track before he gets me a big time ticket
  15. metal work isnt too hard...if you get thin enough guage to be able to bend and shape it....2 hammers ( a regular and asmall ball peen ) tin snips and a pair of channel locks did the shaping...and my 2 new favorite tools did the attaching ( my 19.2 V Craftsman screw gun and my pop rivet gun).. Hey if us girls can do it ( heck I am jealous of heartless...she can weld!) you can too.......actually ...my fiance ,who is car clueless, just watches for a few minutes and walks away saying " better you then me":) If you think that little fender work is too much...wait till you see when I fix my other quarter panel...its going to require removal of a very large bad patch...alot of cutting grinding adding and shaping...Hopefully ..in the long run Rocky will be saved..I am saving up to have a new front frame fabricated and welded under him
  16. AC draw from an EA82 is normal...and even more noticeable with the AT .. before going with the new battery there are some things to check....terminals...I mean take them off and clean and coat them ...make sure ALL connections are tight and free from corrosion...the white plug on your alt has a habit of deteriorating...replacement is easy.. Sounds just like you have a bad connection somewhere so I would start there....keep it simple before spending money you dont have too. You have the general GL package BTW....my Loyale has all the same options but its a 5 spd ( you may want to look into a 5 speed swap..those AT trannies are dogs) and I have a 300watt system....still running the stock alt without any problems...run yours to an Advance Auto or Auto Zone and have them run a test on your alt..its free and will tell you if its charging right
  17. According to that...basically my XT6 is a pretty darn safe car.. AND...if you ask people first hand who have had some nasty wrecks with thier EA82s and EA81..they will tell you they are amazed how well they held up and the way the car kept them from serious injury...Never forget...these old Subarus will give thier own lives to save yours.
  18. Bless Rocky Oh Subaru Lord for its been 4 weeks since his last break down ( everyone please knock on wood )... Anyway...today I did alittle more body work cause it was nice...this is just a temp patch..I will fill and shape better once I go pick up the trim piece its missing. Anyway..here are pics ( specially for you Loyale 2.7 Turbo;) ) Before..passenger side fender: pop-rivetted patch and final after primer..not pretty but its a start
  19. I have been following this and am sooooo glad to hear it was something on the dumb/easy to fix side.
  20. OK OK ..I still luv ya Rob....but pay backs are a...b.....( fill in the blanks and it rhymes with witch)
  21. My XT6 was /is a charging nightmare ...how did the plug look that went into the alt? They like to go down hill and can cause some issues...if it looks bad its easy to install a new one...just remember to cut the old one off far enough back to get rid of corrosion...also rememer which side is which. check for loose grounds also...basically check and clean all connections. Just my 2 cents..I am lucky..knock on wood...my Loyale has had absolutely no charging issues in the 4 years I have had it..but my XT6 made me a believer on all these connections, connectors, wire ground suggestions
  22. You are no longer one of my favorite people Rob!
