Brat with power windows?
LUVMYBRAT replied to LUVMYBRAT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm not worried about wiring ,do you think 4-door regs would be usable or are you going need 2-door ones only? -
anyone tried this,or was one ever produced?I've got access to some power window regulators from a 4-door, 84 I believe ,and was curious if the transition would be possible,I also can get switches and what not to complete.I'm not worried about wiring ,more just the reg into the cenario.

4spd D/R to 5spd D/R swap
LUVMYBRAT replied to LUVMYBRAT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
back to the shaft, so like the post I should grab the driveshaft out of the wagon that I'm pulling the 5spd d/r range from?? and use it in conjunction to the tranny swap,I just need to weld hanger bearing? what about axles? what combo fits the tranny swap cenario? -
hey man read your other post I'm at Wyotech remember!
-
cool! I wasnt sure about harpua I just saw a plate and thought it might be someone off the board.keep in touch I'll do what I can to make your time in wyo a experience.
-
as some of you heard I work at a tech school where we trash cars in the collision dept, about 50 every three monthes, and there usually a couple of subes in every batch ( I know it's sad ) but the good news is I can remove any good usable parts that I want except for body parts. soo... my latest grabs 4 perfect H alloys with centercaps,a 4spd d/r and possibly 2 5spd d/r, and I'm gonna swap my cracked glass for a good one out of a hatch!!
-
hey hondasucks! sorry to hear of your dilemas. when was it you were comin to WYOTECH? and who was comin with you?I saw a blazer with harpua1 on its plate, is this harpua from the board? it was'nt on a sube so I was'nt sure. is he comin with you?btw what classes are you going to be taking?

4spd D/R to 5spd D/R swap
LUVMYBRAT replied to LUVMYBRAT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
looks one of the issues noted was two different styles/years of 4 spd trannys.Mines a 85 brat and I've got that 3rd gear syncro issue,my other 4spd comes out of the same year hatch, and the 5spd comes from a newer wagon.sounds like a syncro issue or even poor gear ratio is what 4spd is all about and the 5 spd sounds pretty solid. Is this a correct assumption? -
allright I know this has been discussed.I tried a search but wasn't very successful(i'm sure it's not because I'm computor illiterate) anyways....I have access to a 5spd d/r unit, not sure of quality ,but regardless, my question lies in the real time pros and cons of the swap. I am currently having third gear issues with the 4spd d/r in my 85 Brat, but I also have access to another 4spd.soooo....should I do the swap? is it relativly easy?I am mechanically ept its just that I'm allergic to actually working.what are other parts needed for swap than just the tranny? any major mods? ALSO!! I have a three inch lift planned, how would the swap coincide with that? and lastly what would be ideal clutch configuration if swap was done. Like always this board is the greatest and all advise is accepted and appreciated

sorry to butt in on thread. General your e-mail is full, tried to pm but could do it. But to inquire about a/t's how hard to swap to manual?

T-topping a DL brat vs. windshield -- Chef Tim?
LUVMYBRAT replied to baccaruda's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well if you were closer to wyo I could show you how to do it or better yet even do it for you for a small fee of course. I am a seasoned bodyman (16 yrs) and i've welded up many a roof skin combos not on a sube yet but it's just another car. complete roof would be best and easiest, with W/Shield and slider both out. -
 yea what a score!!Had a student in my last class tell me he had a pair of jump seats mounted in a pickup that was no longer in service,he wasn't sure if they we subie or not but said he would bring them back after Christmas vaction if I wanted them. Naturally I said "of course" I want them, but" how much" I said?.. Well I got the seats yesterday and and there in great shape a little faded and the bracketry has to be fabbed some to fit in around my custom roll bar , but he's a student in collision so he's modifiying them for extra credit! means I dont have to do anything and they'll be in the brat. Oh yeah! How much??? 20 BUCKS!!!!!!!!

hitachi secondaries question
LUVMYBRAT replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
wire or use a zip tie and make secondary mechanical, this works!take the vac unit off, take wire\tie and go around little rod sticking out from throttle linkage(about 1\4-3\8 long) at base of carb, then wrap through linkage on secondary ,making sure there is only a little tension.tighten tie\wire. this will pull secondarys open around 3\4 throttle.I got my carb from someone who had already done this, its hard to stay out of the peddle and gasmileage will prbobly drop a bit. I only got 16 mpg on a 700 mi. trip. that kindof sucked. -
What the heck is wrong with this piece!
LUVMYBRAT replied to mikekucharski's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yea I agree with maroondoom. I went through some of the same things your doin, came to find out the 4wd linkage shifted enough to be between 4hi and 4lo, thing sounded lkie the all gears were ground to nothing. Bad thing I did the full engine pull and then caught the problem. I also would check if you do the engine pull to see if splines are same or damaged. but definetly do motor pull and not tranny. Me and my friend had it down to twenty min and it was out (did it 5 times in 13 days!) -
can some one quickly tell me the qt capacity for lube in the d\r 4spd tranny!!! trying to hit the road for the holiday whats left of it. already had to do full haedgasket set up on the wifes van, and we dont want any more probs so were taking the brat as a backup but I want all fluids refreshed, and I dont know how much tranny lube I need.

does anyone know if the struts and shocks off an 86 dl wagon are longer than those of an 85 brat. I know that mounts are a little different ( nothing a welder and other tools cant change) but I,m lookin at the length factor.

New clutch does not functino
LUVMYBRAT replied to hatch4x4's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you should also try the clutch cable. I was having some similar issues and it was really pissing me off, finally the cable broke and i had to replace. it was like getting a totally different car. 23.00 and 20 minutes is easier than pullin everything again. It took me two complete kits and 5 times of pullin to get it right. thank God it only takes 25 minutes to pull -
so this is the last one. I'm only into this for about 500 bucks and i'm almost got the lift kit finished. so if any one wants to resize one for my avatar I'd appreciate it. e-mail and I'll let you know which one. 85 Brat. 4spd D/R, 185/80/13's,custom made rollbar with lights, brushman pushbar?,brand new seats and accel super coil. This is my pride hope you like it:wave:
