  4. Hey everyone:wave: I've got a 85 brat with d/r 4spd.have a little tranny issue, shifts into 3rd fine when cold but after warmup it gets a little temperamental.doesn't always want go in or it tends to grind a bit/lot,could some or all of the problem be in the lube? I'm sure a change of fluid wouldn't hurt anything but would /or could it be the cause of everything?and what is the correct fluid for tranny? I've heard that there is more than one kind of lube to use:confused: any and all advise is appreciated:D
  5. I'm curious, I enjoy reading about all the things that are done to enhance performance of our subes, I've only just started to tweek my brat,( chrome accel super coil, and 185/80/13's,custom rollbar with 5"lights,3" lift in progress). Question is I,ve seen a thread or two about disty mods but have'nt stayed on top of it to know anything. What can you do to upgrade on a 85 brat ?(e81 right?) 4spd d/r. all info is much appreciated,I love this site:wave:
  6. sounds exactly like the problem, whats the approx cost of that module?
  7. hey guys I need some input here. a buddy of mine has a 82d/r wagon that his wife drives, with problems though, it runs for about 30 min- 1 hour then quits. turns over fine but no fire. he replaced fuel system things ( pump, filter ) no luck. I have not had a chance to look at it yet but it sounds like ignitian or something, any words of wisdom would be helpful.
  8. Hey folks , I,m building a 3" lift for my brat .( I have some 2x3 tubing and I own a welder) but I,m not quite sure how to fab the strut tower block. Does anyone have a drawing of a block or spacer design that I could use? I,ve been able to figure everything else out. thanks for all advise.:-)
  9. Ive got 185/80/13's on my brat and they look good, its a little slow but nothing serious. I went wheelin in the rockies during elk season and it wheeled around alot of junk with out rubbing. It also hauled out a 500 lb elk whole. I drove thruogh 3' high sage and shale rocks til I was right next to it!! This is a great hunting rig. but now I'm having clutch issues again:banghead:
  10. hey thanks for the info. but I cured my dilema, turns out my linkage between hi\lo was bein a little testy and wouldn't engage properly causing the grinding \ no gear scenario. but that has changed now after having the engine out for the third time in 7 days.also determined that my other 4speed d\r is is good shape and just needs one little piece of linkage to work:banana: thanks again:wave:
  11. So anyways? I'm asuuming that it is not a direct swap!:cornfuzz: what actually are you doin to the tranny when you make the kit? and would you be willing to do a little bartering? I have a extra 4speed d/r not sure of condition though.
  12. HELP!!! I'm having some clutch tranny issues on my 85 brat. :banghead: not quite sure yet the exact problem, but the bottom line question is ? If my tranny(D\R 4 SPEED) is bad ,will a D\R 5 SPEED SWAP IN??
  13. looks like a stock aluminum bar to me , I have the same bar on my 85
  14. what you need to do is this. question yourself?how good of job do you want to do!two options 1 stop by local body supply store get "nut serts" two for each corner. 8 if you only have 4 mnt points,10 if you have side ones in the middle. drill holes according to size indicated, install units and mnt unit using bolts also purchased to coincide with "nut serts". tightening bolts makes the " nut sert" expand inside the hole and seal hole. 2 set rack on roof mark all holes, remove rack, drill small 1/8" or 3/16" holes at every mark.then before putting rack back on dab a spot of silicone over each hole then set rack back on use 1/4" coarse thread or bigger bolt only bout 1/2'long. tighten bolts til snug, these can strip out with a heavy arm so be careful! this should work good really either way. The first is probobly a little stronger if your going to be using it alot to actually carry stuff. before you install either way make sure you dab paint around the hole first so as to prevent premature rust from starting. hope this helps out:wave:

Should do alright according to some of the trips people on the board have done. would really like to get a lift in before too long. short on cash anyone got a used kit???
