'84 turbo coupe with a weird tranny issue
LUVMYBRAT replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well I pulled out the govenor today on my day off hopin to see a bad apple core syndrom but not so:banghead: the govenor actually looked great very little if any signs of apple coring. good news for that but bad news overall, looks like a tranny swap is in order. -
well 1/2 of job 1 is done. Caboobaroo stripped drivetrain and other parts off this weekend, next weekend we're gonna try and swap out the other engine and get the wagon up and running.

ATTN: Who in the surrounding area would be interested in a workday to help me out? I have aquired a number of cars and need to do some house cleaning. Management is not as keen to my collection as I am.Heres what I am looking at: Job 1: Swap EA81 engine from parts wagon to good wagon then strip all items of interest, anything that I dont want is up for grabs to those that help. Then the car will go by by. oh and if there is time put in 3" lift kit Job 2: Strip Turbo Brat to keep two Turbo Coupes in running condition then it goes by by also. All un wanted parts free to the workforce Red T-Coupe needs tranny from T-Brat or from other parts stash Silver T-Coupe needs engine from T-Brat Job 3: Strip Impreza parts car Drivetrain is main item needed for future EJ-2.2 swap. again parts leftover are all up for grabs This is alot to ask understandably I would not expect all of this to get done. We would be able to use the facilites at the school where I work, that means two lifts, a cherry picker and a multitude of tools. This would have to be on a Saturday only and I would try(money allowing) supply the masses with food and drink(no alcohol though, not at the school, sorry) So drop a note if your in on this and I'll work up a date:cool: .

3eat? or 4eat? on a EA82 4X4
LUVMYBRAT replied to LUVMYBRAT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I guess the other question is: all 3at's are 3.7 geared right? -
how to tell the difference? what are the obvious signs. years, buttons, and or any other way of telling? Thanks

Where to route chains for pulling engine
LUVMYBRAT replied to danbennett2u's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
at the back by the bellhousing there is a hole through a bracket and at the oppisite side of the front of the engine is a hook sort of that you can hook the chain on. Pick the motor up with as little as chain as possible to maximum lift from picker and also hook picker chain at a midpoint on the chain attached to engine. This should balance everything pretty good. -
how much for the qtr panel?

Being offered 2 free Subies
LUVMYBRAT replied to Subieguy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
As curator of 2 free subes I go for it, the upfront may seem spendy but the overall feeling of having more subarus will wash the cost away. Especially a Hatch! -
Sorry, no mine are not, there is a tab welded to the bracket and the bracket bolted to floor. I believe McBrat is talking about my seat covers not seats.

No I thought I'd throw that in there to mess with everyone. Back in Nov 05 I was cutting a 10,000.00(cost of medical bills so far) piece of firewood:banghead: and in a short story sense slipped and cut my thumb and index finger. My thumb is okay after the second surgery but the index wouldn't heal properly so during second surgery I had them remove it entirely. Enter the world of the nine finger club. its all good!

did you read the quote for the picture?

twist snaps, like on a tarp cover. metal grommet stamped into cover then snap attached to seat, slip cover on then twist snap walaaa.

Nice ride! good job like to see the finished project.

I dont know how to post obviously:lol: . But seriously. Buy it! if it runs that is, if it dont offer him 300 and still try and buy it. Junk yards are like pawn shops, cash talks. Talk him into some different wheels or another motor. In any case buy it! save it from the crusher, later if you dont want it, post it here and I'm sure you'll have no problem getting rid of it. hmmm.. 3 brats:brow:

well good, Jerry I sent you a PM.

speaking of that swap, theres still one piece I'm missing. The adapter plate. I've read a few threads that say some would've rather had a plate made of steel than aluminum, why is that? Aluminum is way easier to cut than steel, lighter ect.. Is it the whole soft metal issue with threading things into and through it? And whats the story with the clutch mod that has to be done?
-
well maybe I should rephrase a little, when running it was quiet and actually sounded good outside of antifreeze going everywhere. So I'm not sure if it needs tearing down that far,so how bad is a head job to do? I've done my share of standard v8's and v6's but no internal stuff done on one of these. Am I over thinking this stuff?
-
So how hard is it? Not really looking at doing any high perf. work just getting it going again. Heres the deal I just got a new T-Coupe with a motor issue. Prev owner said said cracked head, he had it repaired once before. I got it running and it was boiling out radiator and blowing out tailpipe. I have a T-Brat I'm thinking of stealing the motor from to get the car back on the road but I was thinking of either rebuilding the motor to put back in the T-Brat or going to an other motor. So if I rebuild how hard is it?
-
well I agree that knocking the T-Brat in the head to save the T-Coupe is a worthy cause. Soon to have pics of all then you'll see why the coupe deserves a trans plant. I have another parts wagon and was thinkin since its a solid lifter that putting the Wagon back together with another solid lifter motor would be easiest. So I guess I'm leanin towards the Brat. I was lookin for some one to tell me what to do cause I don't like makin decisions(make too many at my job:horse: ). I guess my brain tells me I need to put ALL the goodies on the same car too... never thought to much of spreading the wealth amongst the family.

Okay well its a weird title to a thread I know but help me out here. I have been aquiring, finding, making, pieces and parts to build a project vehicle. What kind of project? well I'm not sure yet, I have several options? and lots of things to put on it. Heres what pieces I have: EJ 2.2 from mid 90's impreza awd(complete car) 5spd d/r from GL10 Turbo sedan 3.7 3.7 LSD from RX Sedan Rear disk pieces from EA82T 3" lift for EA81 using EA82 rear coil overs 14" six lug wagon style wheels with 185/R14 coopers Car options: All EA81 STYLE 82 Wagon (d/r 4wd with bad solid lifter motor) Got this Wagon from Scoobywagon. Nice shape with one dented door 84 4WD Turbo Coupe(bad head gaskets or motor, bad digi dash, with A/T) Just aquired this one! super shape 85 Brat ( bad motor, tranny having issues) The original that got me on this board. Custom made roll bar with lights, jump seats with custom sewn seat covers, push bar with lights, and 2.25" catless exhaust with turbo muffler Sooo.... What kind of puzzle should I put together?
-
Well I finally got it! That makes for the sixth in a set of three sets of twins. Two Brats, Two Wagons, and now Two Turbo Coupes:headbang: The Wife and I pulled it home last night. It had a dead battery and was blistering cold outside so we opted to pull it back into town instead of freezing and no gaurantee that it would start or even make it home. So a tow rope and twenty minutes later we were at the house. I tried the trickle charger to no avail but luckily had a spare battery sitting in the garage. Fifteen minutes later she was purring. She was also pushing antifreeze out the radiator faster than I could pour it in too and the tail pipe was hosing water out as well:( . Oh well I was hopin for for a silver lining. So I'm guessing it has a cracked head or bad head gasket for sure. So now the question is? do I pull motor apart and attempt a rebuild? do I canabalize the turbo brat(it's kinda rusty) and make that the project vehicle? hmm.. what if I .... no thats alot of work... yea but it would be cool... I've never done that before though... plenty have done it on the board and would be more than willing to give their advise... I dont know;) . Well the mental debate will go on for awhile yet, but I do have a bag o goodies I'm dying to do something with. I'm bringing home the digi camera this weekend I hope to take some family photos so until then.
