If only I had the money! check this out!

there was a buggy similar to that at the SEMA show in Vegas last week, powered by an EA82 hooked up with an adapter plate to an auto tranny then a transfer case going to two solid axles, definitly cool. -
where are you coming to in the US?

Making the Brat more truck-like

I think what really he's talking about as far as welding is this: with a cutoff tool cut off that seam( its called a pinch weld) then weld at that point a butt weld, grind smooth and paint ie: no seam no trim. only problem is metal is thin, heat transfer can and will warp the surrounding area making for more body work. time and patience and the job will turn out good, haste makes waste and alot of warped metal. -

and as long as your lightening up and opening up, take another hatch, take out backglass and cut down into lower portion and cap off like your half door then just use some netting like those tailgate thingys.it'll definitly be breezy on the way home but what the hay its all good. -

with half doors your exposing yourself to the elements anyways, lose the windows weld in stretched metal and keep a couple pieces of plexiglass handy that are cut to size for winter then just zip tie in like a tranny cooler add-on or even use some thumb screws, put some foam or weatherstrip around edge to seal out the wind and rain and snow and mud and well you get the picture. Gotta say the bobwagon looks pretty sweet. -

Grinding in 4 wheel drive, rear not engaging
LUVMYBRAT replied to sandman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
follow the linkage to the tranny and see if it is fully engaging.mine did that once and I couldn't get any gear, lots of grinding , thought tranny was toast. minor adjustment and it was all good. -
Well my kid just called me yesterday crying amout how she rear ended a car in the T-coupe , she's okay, my daughter that is, but the T-coupe didn't fair it as well. My buddy back home looked at it said it is not too bad but radiator has hole, what radiators will work, do they all interchange? her car 84 t-coupe 3at 4wd.

cool! thanks alot this will help out alot

I think I understand, let me repeat for approval. Break locknut loose, slide feeler gauge between rocker and lifter -tighten sqaredrive stud until gauge is snug but still able to slide in and out, then tighten locknut, all while piston is at TDC. any torque specs? and can some one chime in about .010,.014 clearances are these correct?

when you did your valve adjust how tight or what did you do? I dont know how to adjust valves and my solid lifter is very noisy, wouldn't mind quieting it down.

84 hatch ignition problems
LUVMYBRAT replied to gonehuntn's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yea me too? is that the little black thingy inside disty cause I'm sort of experiencing same issues kinda , no blown fuses or no starts just extremely poor perfomance especially at top end, its okay in town 40mph and lower but top end is like outa here, I have a hard time hittin 4g's in third, I need that to climb hill on way to/from work, yea I drive up hill both ways, I'm not kiddin either.this mornin the ol brat had everything in her to do 55 -
I was curious about that. Can this also influence the timing? and the performance? I do have a different disty to try.
-
I dont have a different one When the tach is jumping I dont notice a change in motor just in tach
-
well I put new wires and cap and rotor in and that improved things quite a bit but there is still a considerable power shortage compared to last motor, it's like it doesnt want to pull up into the high R's under a load. sitting idle I can rev up to redline no problem, but when running down road it wont get past 5G which is 500 or so R's below redline. It also creates a slight surging at the upper end when running on highway. could the modules inside disty be weak or something? and I havent checked yet but I was wondering about air getting sucked in at base of carb, when I swapped carbs. One other thing when idling the tach does a little jumping, not consistantly but when it does it usually jumps 3-500 rpm's I would really like to make this thing run better cause snow is comin soon and I dont want to find myself stranded somewhere.MORE ADVISE PLEASE

Valve adjusting intervell?
LUVMYBRAT replied to soobme's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
could some one enlighten me a little more on this process? I have a solid lifter and it sound like a typewriter badddd.. -
yea I've got a set of spacers that I'm puttin back in and welding the emissions hole shut, I'm hopin this will cure some of top end issues 55-60mph top speed
-
No its my poor brat the thing is really startin to
-
After swapping motors I have aquired a serious leak do to the fact that the new motor did not have the spacer for emissions on it and my exhaust is strained because of clearance issues, there is no clearance it hits crossmember and still wont seat up. Can a serious leak affect performance? other than noise? I put a custom y-pipe with no cat and now with leak it seems to be having issues. I know the path to getting leak fixed it,s just going to be a bit before I can afford the time and was curious?
-
I seem to be having some ignition issues or something on my brat, question is can you swap EA82 disty into EA81 car? and are there timing differences betweeen cars like 2wd - 4wd or say solid lifter motor to hydaulic lifter motor all EA81 that is? I put a electro disty on a 81 EA81 that had the little igniter box on coil, I changed both coil and disty but seem to be going backwards fast I cant find timing marks while timing and have turned 180 degrees too.. its running but seems to be getting worse the more I drive it, thought maybe disty I put in was shot, I have some EA82 disty's and was curios to their ability to swap in.

my wife loves daddy's little brat, but I also have a big old crewcab and one day i told her thought I would need new tires and she looked at it and agreed and said yea you definately need BIGGER tires. I already had 285's on it and said go Bigger! Now she lets me do about anything I want to the brat also, a few more pieces and the brat will be BIGGER! I love my wife
