EA82t hesitation problems...
TurboXT replied to TurboXT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ok, so I checked the TPS, MAF, and the CTS and the thing on the thermostat housing, most all the connectors were super corroded, I checked the CTS wires, and they were ok, it was just the spade connectors in the plastic connector. Cleaned all connections with contact cleaner and then scraping them, and re spraying them. Started it up, and it seems to idle a bit smoother, but it didn't want to rev to save it's life, sputtered and wouldn't rev past 2500rpm..... let it run, feathered the gas a little, and it seemed to run better after that.... Was this the ECU re-learning?? It can't be that smart lol Also, the main issue is still there, any other ideas? Maybe a stuck injector? Can I test that short of pulling the injectors and watching how they fire? Rick -

EA82t hesitation problems...
TurboXT replied to TurboXT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That could very well be the problem.... it almost seems throttle position related.... could be that the CTS is corroded and the tps is an issue (needs adjusted or replaced?), it kinda surges if I set my foot on the gas, like 1/8th throttle, it kind speeds up and slows down speeds up and slows down, just very lightly. I'll check the CTS, I am sure it is probably a problem, 120k miles, it hasn't been touched I'm sure.. Thanks -
EA82t hesitation problems...

I have not, would that cause my problems? -
So I have an 86 xt turbo, and it idles rough, acts like a misfire, and stumbles on acceleration in the low end as the turbo is spooling up, if I floor it, full boost hits, and it pulls good, no stumbles... Boost is stock, replaced fuel filter, fuel pump, plugs.... Timing looked ok, replaced o2 sensor, everything is connected also, if you grab the fuel line from the filter to the fuel rail you can feel a pulsing, but only there... Any ideas? Seems to run better if the o2 is unplugged, but still idles rough. Rick

anyone help, please!
TurboXT replied to soobie_newbie67's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Did you pull the engine or trans? Auto or manual? Check flexplate bolts (guessing it's an auto) or there is a metal plate at the bottom of the engine/tranny bellhousing, maybe check that the plate isn't touching the starter ring, or no bolts are in the bellhousing..... I wouldn't rev it high, that seems like a bad idea.... Check the oil? Just some thoughts..... -
What EA82T Performance Exhaust Are You Running?
TurboXT replied to TurboXT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So, a 3" turbo back is not too big for the car then? Or would it be better to go sti dp, then 3" from there? My idea is to run a 3" bellmouth or sti dp, and have a custom 3" built with maybe a flow master/deltaflow dp back, that way I can swap back to stock for emissions tests fairly easily.... I'm also going to upgrade the turbo to a vf11 from a legacy ss. Rick -
I've got a guy locally that is giving me a whole turbo lol thanks though! Rick

Didn't think so, ok think I found an elbow for the vf... I hope. Thanks!

I put a set of 80's toyota mr2 seats in my old brat, held me great for off roading. Looked nice too. Harnesses, I would either do a bar across the back of the seats from one side of the body to the other (you may not have room depending on how tall you are/what seats you use ) or mount to the floor on a main support somewhere with sandwich plates and through bolts. Unless you're caging the thing, then run a bar across the back between your cage. If you have a roll bar in the bed, just bash the glass out, weld a bar, and run the harnesses in through the back window cutout.... Lol just kidding on this one... Just my 2 cents

So I have another question.... The 90° elbow that bolts to the turbo is missing on my vf11, does the ea turbo elbow bolt up to the vf11?
-
Sweet! So I don't have to change exhaust or anything eh? That's awesome! Also, yes, it will be intercooled with a wrx top mount, and I will run under 10 psi for sure. Thanks for all the advice and input!

Has anyone swapped a newer legacy vf11 turbo into an ea82t? What supporting mods does this require? Thanks!
