  1. good job GB. sounds like the seller's hoping for someone dumber than himself
  2. nice score! adding 4wd is easy. get the rear suspension from a 4wd car. look for a rear disc brake and sway bar setup on a turbo car. and of course an LSD. Make sure the rearend you run has a ratio to match what originally came with whatever 4wd transmission you choose. To add the stock driveshaft you have to drill into the body and tap threads for the bolts. Doing this isn't the best way as it's hard to get the aligmnent right for the center mount. A custom one piece driveshaft made FROM a stock driveshaft is the best bet. don't forget the shift linkage too.
  3. it's the second spelling. I think I've heard something about a way to reset the air suspension but I don't remember what it is. did you have the battery disconnected when you did the repairs? maybe there's another corrosion somewhere you missed? I think the reset was pretty basic, like disconnect the negative battery cable for a while and hook it back up.. i don't know if it's that easy though.
  4. hey Amanda, i'm 1/4 norweigan, i drive a subaru, and i can fake an accent pretty good if everyone involved is drunk. how's 3 out of 4 sound for you? hm, i can sympathize somewhat.. i feel more that it's an adopted attitude rather than ignorance. it's definitely more intuitive and not strictly factual; many specific types of cars have similar followings.. who out of anyone has driven them all? .. kind of reminds me of how i feel about religion (that's another can of worms!). I've been less and less into cars in general lately. possibly because driving pizza for 3 years makes me passionately hate every car problem I have (d@mn turbos! ) but "possibly" also because my attitudes about things like the environment, overpopulation, capitalism, politics, mass transit, and automotive design in general, have gone that way. thankfully i have a new job lined up by May Plus, I have other hobbies and interests I've not explored yet, and cars take a lot of freakin' time and money! I also can't help but think that, as an owner of only older subarus, I give FHI no reason to care what I think until I have $25k in my pocket and want to turn it into a subaru. I also haven't gotten a check from SOA's advertising department since about never. I'm not slamming anyone. Keep in mind that when I buy clothes I either make sure they have no logos or labels, or I'll consider how easy it would be to remove the logo or labels with an X-acto knife when I get home. Yes, I realize that such criteria are a little out of the average and that I'm a geek. If/when I ever find my self painting a subaru, I will even remove the badges and such on the tailgate and fenders. If I had to take a position, I'd say AWD or nothing. That leaves you in the company of Audi and Volvo, on a quality level. Fine by me; I think they're just as good but more expensive!
  5. it'll be either 2 screws (philips) or 2 clamps. the screws should float in the cap when they're "out" so you don't need to remove them. ground the coil wire to the frame (i like to clip it onto one of the 3 bolts for the left strut) too since you'll be cranking the engine with the cap off.
  6. i plan to put a mystery "car won't start" switch in my cars too.. in my wagon, i'm putting it in one of the 4 gray panels that sit next to the rear defrost and cruise control switches. I grabbed that switch assembly from a car that had the pneumatic height adjust switch there.. took out the HA switch from the assembly. all i have to do is put it in my assembly with a blank gray cover over it and it won't look like anything at all. I want to put other switches in those spots too, give it a nice clean look.
  7. is some really great beer! why not just install a permanent second ground source? (is that good enough for the beer? )
  8. uhh.. you may be the one to tell US how long that lasts.. I believe that's a new approach. good luck!
  9. thanks.. i'm just going to take care of the windshield first though; it's kind of hard to see out of because the sand pcks catch the glare.
  10. hm. thought i remembered your KDH or a ham reference on a blue hatch i thought i saw. i must need more coffee!
  11. what kind of subaru do you have? the ham radio reference is making my brain itch. I don't ham but is your car a light blue hatch?
  12. i smell a vacuum leak too. make sure your oil cap is on tight. check your ECU codes too. maybe a jammed open choke or something?
  13. there you go. put a black light under the hood get someone who mods computer cases to trick it out
  14. I believe the prhase was "run like a b!!!! to the body shop?" that looks uber sharp. have you thought about tinting the windows blue? or bluish..
  15. how about a clear plexiglas or lexan case, just a basic rectangle or oval, with a one piece cover? easier than aluminum or stock...
  16. i'm having fantasies about an inverse grease fitting in there for cleaner boot changes.
  17. *ahem* hi, yes, i'm from spokane. the sooner you learn to ignore skeet the better what part of town are you in? i'm in browne's addition.
  18. hi Tim.. heh. i'll take that into consideration, thanks. I'm open to ending up with a second, i mean, different Brat later, i guess...
  19. hey Tony.. have you thought about producing rear differential protectors and reinforced rear differential mustache bars?
  20. DLs might be rarer than GLs, but are they more desireable? if anyone wants to trade a GL brat with Ttops and rear shell for a DL with a rear shell and no Ttops speak up!
  21. 1983 DL Brat. Would like details, successes, failures, or mockery for the following ideas: Interested in swapping in: floater turn signal for lane changes (w/ tilt column?) power mirrors intermittent wipers biggest EA81 rear sway bar available Who's (tried to) swap in power locks and/or windows in an EA81 car? I had to booty-fab a HW store bracket to hold some other import's radiator overflow tank.. I didn't see any OF tanks in the other EA81s at the JY... (how many more acronyms can i work in?) I'd prefer something that looks a little more stock, is there such a beast? How much weight can the top of the rear canopy top support? It has a rack already (fastened to the corners, not a wagon rack FYI) thanks!
  22. Yeah, I'm probably going to start exercising before work starts to get a headstart on toughening up .. it'll probably be a few months before i'm close to ready to act on the graft. I might want to put in a new WS before then, but I'll get ahold of you after i'm done switching jobs and apartments about the purchase, at least. thanks. thanks LUVMYBRAT, I'm not headed toward WY anytime soon but it's good to know that now. Thanks Boz, I'll keep Pat's in mind first because he's much closer but I might give you a shout later this year.
  23. take off the turbo heat shields, run it, use a mirror and flashlight to check out under the turbo when you can get it to leak. make sure the coolant's full first. I'll bet it's the lower return hose, and you can search for lower turbo coolant hose and find a few methods of repair there. good luck!
