scuse me while i gloat over my new brat!
baccaruda replied to baccaruda's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
indeed! oh, and it came with a couple cans of paint mixed to the paint code, for the hood. don't know if they're still good, but i'll probably just hook up on the hood at the JY. save the paint for the tailgate. aaaaaaaaand last weekend at the JY I grabbed a 3rd eye and grille.. and it happens to be the same grille my brat has! it was meant to be -
Last summer I was cruising around north spokane and saw a dark green brat in someone's driveway. there was a LOL (little old lady) outside so i stopped and chatted with her about it for a minute. she wasn't interested in selling it ... then Got off work early today, went up north to run an errand. Decided to drive by the brat just for the heck of it. Talked to the LOL, who remembered me, and Yes, she was going to be selling it soon! I gave it a good look over. blotch of rust on the tailgate, no big deal. hood is mismatched due to a tree branch related accident a while ago. no big deal. No T tops.. I can live. low top shell over the bed in matching green, with factory rack on top of the shell. No rear seats... yet. and the killer: THE BED IS COMPLETELY RUST FREE. The only rust is that blotch of surface rust on the tailgate. The engine was "gone over" a couple years ago, and seems to run strong. new clutch, great brakes, everything works except the dome light when the doors open. ho-hum. She said she wanted $1500 for it. I said OK. didn't try to dicker because I know it's a good price, and because i recalled talking to her about what it was worth last summer but not what numbers were involved So she started talking about when, i said How About Today? Called the bank and my car insurance, made it happen, drove it for work tonight, love it! and did i mention the BED IS RUST FREE?!?!?! gloat gloat gloat gloat GLOAT! so there. pics soon.

chased away that Q$G@$%G@%G throttle cutout yesterday. the day before i switched out the vacuum solenoids on the strut tower by the MAF, did nothing. played with more stuff, nothing. finally unplugged the TPS and started the car, revved it, and it didn't cut out until i plugged the TPS back in. so i changed the TPS and added some 10ga groundwires from the transmission to the spare tire shelf, since the original there was fried.. and from the distributor to the strut tower, and from the radiator to a hood latch bracket, started it, and got to drive with the throttle behaving itself.

is mine. send donations to me via paypal at the email address below.

i was posting under the impression that you had a particular XT in mind - because of the specific replaced parts in your question - and didn't want to disclose the price it's all kind of arbitrary. you and i would probably list an exact same car at different prices which we both felt fair, but we could debate usefully over the price of someone else's. good luck with finding a good one, i want an XT too

New Forum? Sticky maybe? Or slippy maybe?
baccaruda replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
exactly, the only hard part would be in setting it up, and then if it's optional per user, that would be even better. -

that would still have to be precategorized. -

I have a couple of ideas to allow us to have it both ways. is there a way we can have the handful of sub forums, say EA82T Tuning or Suspension or Carburetors, and have them cross reference and feed into the general OG forum? meaning they'd exist in two places on the index, but if all you read is OG, you'd still have access to every thread that can also be seen in the focused areas. Or, a way to add a forum selector to specify any forum outside of OG, and everyone can choose in their options if they want the classic/present view or the new/categorized view. since the only people who would use the new style will be the ones who WANT to read the USMB categorically, it won't be confusing for people who don't use it. I think that for usefulness towards focused research, a categorized forum has the advantage, and if there's a way to use both styles, then that to me is one less reason not to. I'm going to look for a hack to do such a thing, it's got to exist. -
stephen wright said of his house's mystery light switch that he'd flick it on and off at random while walking by, and after a year he got a letter from some guy in germany telling him to knock it off.

86 Turbowagon fuel pressure regulator?
baccaruda replied to baccaruda's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
hi.. sorry about the acronyms, caleb's right the turbo light comes on properly when the turbo starts pushing, when the engine's cold. BUT the mech fiddled with the vacuum deals on the PS strut tower while showing them to me, and then the car did better on the way home. so i think i may just go to the JY and change those and inspect the vacuum lines... i'll eyeball the FPR anyway though. thanks so far, i'll update soon. -
86 Turbowagon fuel pressure regulator?
baccaruda replied to baccaruda's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i will look at the FPR under the intake tomorrow. skip, this is an 87 xt engine with 86 wiring harness, 86 TPS, and 86 CTS. air flow meter and solenoids are original to the engine. 86 flappy MAF as well. thanks. -
Cam case sealant on re-torque
baccaruda replied to NorseKode's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you might add some extra grounds from engine to chassis; the stock gauges can do weird things as the stock grounding gets old and less effective. -
anyone know where the fuel pressure regulator is on an 86 turbowagon? in reference to this earlier post of mine regarding the throttle cutout.. i took the car to a REAL MECHANIC and he verified that something is shutting off the injectors at 2300RPM. we agree that it occurs as the turbo is starting to do its job. He is inclined to blame the 2.5" freeflow exhaust on my car. I am inclined not to, as many of you have similar setups without similar problems, and the problem is a more recent development than is the exhaust anyway. He suggested the MAF based fuel cut, but again, i don't agree because the turbo isn't even on yet. I also switched out the MAF and ECU last weekend without affecting the problem. He eliminated the throttle position sensor as a cause. So he suggested that I check on a boost sensor for the turbo or for a fuel pressure regulation problem. anyone know where in the engine bay these are? Thanks..
-
yes, it keeps the car from running aggressively enough to run very hot, since the sensor doesn't promise that it can tell the computer how hot the engine is. check the wiring pigtail on top of the sensor (inserts to the manifold vertically, near the PCV valve. i think the wires are green and white on my '86) i've had the code come up from a sloppy wiring repair i did, improving the repair fixed the code. it could be the sensor itself as well of course.

hey, can we have a mod merge the thread caleb referenced with this one? or otherwise consolidate the info? one source would be better than four
