  1. hm, and having that smaller swaybar in the front will make it feel less understeer-ed.. you should get a rear swaybar installed if you haven't yet, then you'll really enjoy cornering..
  2. i don't think that $1300 is too out of line, but if you subtract the cost of a clutch kit and some major exhaust work, you're right around $800 anyway.. of course, depending on the car, "really good shape" could be worth $1500-$1800 if the clutch and exhaust WERE new. But between those and the check engine light (which is probably just a sensor) you could reasonably hope to pay less than $1300. I think Corky's right.. my first reply was influenced by my own greed hoping to use you as a surrogate for a good deal .. and I should admit that I bought my RX for $700 and it was a beater.. at least one accident w/bad repaint, nasty interior, and funky electrical.. I'll eat my own words (ranch dressing please) and recommend $1100 as a good offer. We'll get you set on what maintenance you should catch up on first, too, if you buy it. good luck.
  3. i've already got the socket in my toolbox, and i always take my breaker bar to the yard.. thanks anyway! I usually leave the toolbox and socket set in the car (covered up) and go scout the yard, make a short list of what i want to get, and then go back to the car and put the tools i need in a tote, then go have fun. or i'll check out a wheelbarrow. not all yards allow for this technique though.. i'll usually take a couple screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutter, and 10-12-14 wrenches and sockets/ratchet if i'm just going to go banzai without scouting first. and handwarmer packets this time of year
  4. i'll vote for $800 as well. Also, if you have work done on the exhaust, get a full custom setup, don't stick with stock specs. you can read up on exhaust using the search function if you like.
  5. they said it couldn't be done.. they said what's the point, it's only a justy.. they laughed and rolled their eyes... but he did it anyway. good for him. wonder how fast it goes? i'd say yes to a ride... and i don't think that's been posted before, BTW
  6. i'll bet if we made them out of trendy, cool carbon fiber, we could make a killing on ebay.
  7. has anyone ever put THE RX transmission in an EA81 before? as opposed to other EA82 5 speeds.. maybe it's the transmission.
  8. i think it's easier to max out our smaller engines with a weber than with SPFI. that's my hearsay though..
  9. you could put some vise grips on it and heat up the block with a torch perhaps, or weld a pawn shop steering wheel puller to it?
  10. hey drew. I'm another andrew with an 86 GL10 turbowagon. i'd go to a radiator shop and get a leakdown test done. they pressurize your cooling system and look for coolant to squirt out. It's easy and they probably won't charge you anything. the turbo motors are more prone to coolant hose leaks due to the extra heat and fun generated during use. I would advise you to take a day and replace all the little coolant hoses at once. Some can be found at Napa for maybe less than the dealer; some will be dealer only, and a couple are just cut to fit. The turbo has 4 lines to it; one metal oil line, one rubber oil line, and two silicone coolant lines. the rubber oil line and the L shaped coolant line with the foil are dealer only, and best accessed by pulling the downpipe and turbo and passenger front axle. You can definitely fit a regular full size spare under the hood. I kept my spare mostly deflated so it would squish in there better, as i carry a $10-$20 inflator/compressor in the back of the car. "oh no, the spare's flat too!" hehe the differences in the turbo involved how the wastegate was activated; the difference is a small rubber elbow hose on the wastegate or two separate rubber lines to a solenoid on the passenger side strut tower. your car has the elbow. I also intend to put an analog turbo dash in my car but i'm not even close to having started on that yet. mark, if you're reading this, have you? Also, if you cut out the bottom of the air filter's box, you'll enjoy driving the car a lot more as it'll breathe much better. you will lose a few MPG and gain.. speeding tickets? brow
  11. yeah, throttle cables are pretty easy to change. you might bring the old one in to the dealer to compare, as there were a couple different types of attachments to the pedal on at least some models.52
  12. anyone know what the CFM ratings on the stock electric fans are? there's the EA82 fan that sits under the upper radiator hose, and there's an EA81 fan that is round with three mounting points.. new fans from the parts store usually have CFM ratings and it would be nice to compare if one has a mind to upgrade...
  13. maybe the wiring harness is crunchy? i had to rebuild the plug for the CTS on my car.
  14. you could always wire in a new relay off the coil.
  15. let's call it a lack of diplomacy on some sides and talk about jared's car some more. i'll bet NO ONE cuts you off, hm? didn't someone on here memorialize their car's dents with a magic marker?
  16. two questions: what kind of intercooler is that and how much would you sell the crossover pipes for? i've been interested in those headers for a while and my car's crossover pipe has a leak in it at this moment
  17. heh. i've also pulled parts off of a car i once owned at the yard. i usually strip them down pretty well first but sometimes ya gotta go back i say swap in a 5 speed d/r as well. i don't know if you'd need the rear differential to match.. if your car already has a 3.9 ratio rear differential you'll be ok there.
  18. but are you getting spark to the plug? if your distributor is electronic, perhaps check the wiring inside.. good luck
  19. that and brown lsd is bad. aaaaand i have a used lsd for sale for $125 and i can take the relevant parts out for your swap and send only them, if you like.
  20. factory subaru oil filters are reasonbable at around $6 each and are of better quality than most parts store brands.
