  1. Does anyone have an already-blown EA81 digidash to send Connie to plug in? Galen? Rob?
  2. I know a dare when I hear one. Double down and pick her up from work in a borrowed or test-driven WRX.
  3. maybe the harness to the alternator got tweaked? Consider unwrapping it a bit and look for crispy or stiff wires, or a crimp or break?
  4. Well, I'm going thru Tex for sure now; he's a much nicer guy than the other label companies so that means I can plan to do smaller runs of the LSD sticker with other gear ratios!! He's still looking for a suitable stock on which to print them. We may not end up with an exact match to the original stock, and I've been looking off and on for a couple of years now, but I guess that's OK as it might negate some of my counterfeiting concerns.
  5. Guess I better hop on this bandwagon too! HI CORKY!!
  6. Tach: Don't ask me, mine doesn't work either! My car has a digidash which I'll be swapping for an analog dash sometime this summer, which leads to... Oil Pressure Gauge: You have to get fancy with the oil pressure sender under the EJ's alternator. The EJ's stock OPS is an on/off which works fine for the EJ idiot light or my car's digidash's idiot light; an actual gauge (such as on your car an on the analog cluster I want to swap into mine) requires a gauge with variable output. There have been posts made about the OPS swap; you'll have to search. Keep in mind that the search doesn't work for words of three or fewer letters, like OIL Speedometer: There are products available that adapt the gear ratio and which I believe interface between the cable and the transmission. For now, I use the tire size calculator at http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc and have memorized how "off" my car's tires are at commonly encountered speeds.
  7. If it's not inserted perfectly straight it can be difficult. Also, you can take off the hub (4 14mm bolts) and use two screwdrivers on the threaded tip to pry it forward a little (push the screwdrivers away from yourself). After you get it forward a little more, screw the castle nut on a little and pry against that. Progressively screw the nut on and pry the axle through the bearings this way. After the tip is forward enough, remove the nut and replace the hub and do it again. Eventually you will have the axle all the way through and you can replace the cone washer and the convex/concave washer. Good luck!
  8. 84 was the last official year of the EA81 wagon but it wouldn't come as a surprise if there were a few left over that snuck into '85. John, I had an EA81T coupe and loved it, but I bought a waterpump from the dealership and was told it was the last dealership-stocked waterpump in the country.. parts for the EA81T engine are drying up and it's only going to get worse. I'd also endorse the EJ22 swap; it will keep your EA81 car on the road for many more years to come.
  9. Hi, I looked at your pics and I've owned a few Subarus with the same wiring as your Brat. Off the top of my head, I don't know what those are either. Your best bet is to get a wiring diagram for your car. Your second best bet is to use a multimeter to see when any of those wires have power.. which position is the ignition switch in, which functions such as the heater are on, etc. Good luck. Someone else will probably come along with more info too.
  10. Make sure the trans and diff have enough gear oil in them... have you tried putting the car on jackstands with all 4 wheels off the ground? Are all of your tires the same make/model/size and properly inflated? Also check the linkages as Twitch suggests.
  11. I COUNT on you people for my evening entertainment 'cause I don't own a TV! though I went to bed early last night and wasn't on either..
  12. This is what happens when I post past my bedtime Thread title was supposed to be all caps too.
  13. http://www.bydemons.com/chat This is the COOLEST chat room ever because it's about SUBARUS and it's about the USMB and I'M in it and so are a bunch of other COOL PEOPLE and HOT CHIX and even the PRESIDENT pops in to ask about converting his limo to AWD sometimes. You should totally CHECK IT OUT because lately it's been really boring and slow and its a fun way to talk about day to day stuff that's not threadworthy (not as if that stops some of us, myself included) and when the chat room gets BORING and SLOW I make annoying posts like THIS with too many CAPITAL LETTERS and you get annoyed at me. It's the next best thing to WCSS because it doesn't take any GAS MONEY or VACATION TIME to get there, and you won't get sunburnt either. If you're not a CHAT RAT you're not getting any CHEESE so hurry up and bookmark it please because it's the BEE'S KNEES.:banana: :banana: :banana: :banana:
  14. it's hard, but sometimes the best thing to do is to walk away for a bit. Not too long, though. I have a graphic I've been working on and a while ago I got stuck between my aspirations and my skill level and put it down. I looked at it again last week and can't wait to get back onto it... but I'd given up on it THREE YEARS ago according to the file data. I couldn't believe I'd given up for that long. It's OK to give up for a day or two but giving up on something permanently is really giving up on yourself. Good luck with the coupe, and if you part it out, I want the louvers in case I get another one
  15. I hadn't thought of that but if I make one I'll send it to you :-p
  16. fine, twist my arm That's right, there are 4 that are totally ready to go. Next one I'll finish is the 16004WD and then the custom variants per displacement. I could also do a 2000 for a WRX-swapped car.. The 4WD-style ones will be stickers, patches, and maybe static stickers for the quarter windows like the AWD stickers in the newer ones. I'd like to make belt buckles of the BRAT and the LSD labels, too. That thing in the corner will hit high gear when my Wacom tablet arrives on Monday (IhopeIhopeIhope)! That'll be a sticker and a shirt and you will want one or else.
  17. hey, can I get some hard copies of these emblems from someone? My scanner needs something to do... I don't need the SUBARU one at top but the bottom two BRAT emblems sort of STICK out as missing from my collection, and I'd like to PATCH up the empty spots... heh heh heh. What are they worth to you? *edited re: image problems. Top emblem cropped out.
  18. No, it also gets the bottom pan of the car and certain important components like the gas tank and fuel pump a little further from the rocks you're dragging your car over. Even with stock tires.
  19. To expound on s'ko's points, as an EJ 5-speed's pinion can be swapped into an EA 5-speed to change the ratios, then the guts of each transmission must be very similar (the shape of the bellhousing and the areas to which the mounts attach are different) and have similar tolerances.
  20. if it breaks, replace the assembly and adjust the next one 1/4 turn less.
  21. Thanks Ed, I'm actually sort of in that business myself and will probably have Tex print them for me.
  22. 4X4Welder, I hear you on that but I've seen a lot of LSDs on eBay and craigslist without the stubs or without the cover off to expose the chunk.. I feel better having everyone here tell me I'm full of it though Sorry SM but one-offs are a no-go. I know there are a few variants but I made the one I peeled off of my own car... making some with a different gear ratio is about all that I'll be doing differently. Pretty much any place that makes stickers will have setup costs and minimums per order. One place I looked at had a minimum of 125 pieces; that would be more than enough for one variant; 250 for two would cost me twice as much and take twice as long to recoup. I'd rather spend the money on getting other stickers made... :D I do want to also make a 2200 4WD version of this one though. I will make the sedan/coupe style badge if I can get a low enough minimum. I plan to have patches of these made to sell as well but it will take time because of the production costs. SubaruTex is perhaps going to be printing the stickers; depending on costs and minimums I'll have the LSD repro sticker first, or maybe a few of these.
  23. Yeah, I was thinking maybe I'd alter it subtly... I'll play with that this weekend... but if I change it it won't be a reproduction
