  1. Brian, THIS is the thread I was telling you I remembered. I KNEW I wasn't crazy! I specifically recalled someone pulling a switcheroo
  2. pffft. Mine's not in there, they obviously don't know what they're talking about.
  3. It's not really an extra plate as much as the chunk case itself is two pieces.. looks a LOT like the illustration in Mick's stealth316 link (4th pic up from bottom).
  4. I'm surprised you don't have a sponsorship from BB yet!
  5. Is there anything wrong with the lash adjusters or rockers that would have shoved the intake valve inward? Have you taken off the valve cover yet?
  6. With such a small amount, I'd be concerned mainly about the size of the particles. I've seen some metal "dust" on the oil drain plugs before and that's not much to worry about necessarily..anything larger than grains of sand.. maybe so. But you and ShawnW are on the right track.. not a big deal to see how it goes. good luck!
  7. they should fit.. the easy way to find out is to switch the passenger's seats out and see how it works. the PS seat is often lighter than the driver's and of course the wheel isn't in the way. should be 4 bolts and it's out unless the seat belt is integrated.
  8. hey no problem, and congrats on the happy ending. (no worries about the name, i just laugh when i see people miss it ) stick around and you'll get hooked up with all the good info and parts connections
  9. I got some rubber fuel hose, slit it one way and put it over the brake line like a sock, zip tied it "closed".. then used zip ties to rig the lines into position.
  10. Nice! I've looked into this a little bit and measured against my wagon after its lift was installed but without the engine in the bay. You may need to put a lift in the car to keep the top of the engine lower. You may also need to look into the adaptations made to the VW motors that let you tilt it at an angle as in a vanagon conversion. It's the best choice for a diesel motor (excepting the new Subaru TDI of course) because it is lightweight at 300lbs dry and has similar output capabilities to an EJ22. Good luck and don't skimp on the clutch!
  11. Correct. I took my dash out so I could R&R the heater but it was back in before I put in the wiring. It would be easier to do the best, cleanest job if you did take out the dash, though. You do need to pull the dash cluster and its surround to graft in the wires for the ECU light and gauges but that's easy stuff...
  12. My wagon's EJ ECU is in the same spot as the stock one - under the steering column. It's zip tied on until I make a way to bolt it to the column as the stock one was. I think I'll probably get another Legacy harness and re-do the wiring swap so I can do a neater job under the dash and at the engine bay inlet.
  13. Hey Bill, saw you reading the thread We're back safe and tired. It was great to see everyone, thanks for the fun! Thanks especially to Zap for the accomodations and to Ed and Jeanne (sp?) for playing Tour Guide oh and Ken too so I don't get banned zzz:dead: a few more for good measure:horse:
  14. This would be difficult but the best option IMO. With that much rust you'd have to do a full ground-up restoration with a parts Brat available for body panels... or in which to swap the turbo stuff Of course the recipient vehicle should receive a 5-speed swap too... Get a 1983 FSM so you have all of the wiring info and take out the ENTIRETY of all the wiring harness. You'll also have to take the gas tank and probably all of the fuel plumbing. My next suggestion? Put it all in an EA81 hatchback  Thered aren't many of THOSE around with turbos; only one that I know of In my opinion, restoring the body would be an exercise in futility. If you get serious about doing the "total turbo transplant" there will be enough information on this board to make it viable. MTFBWY!
  15. someone may have purchased the wrong type of headlight bulbs for your car? It might also be some sort of relay problem but I'm not familiar with the headlight wiring for your car. Good luck!
  16. My mom is color blind. Everything she sees is black/white/grey and/or yellowish. She wants to add foglights to her Jeep (shut up!) and I'm wondering if anyone here has any PRACTICAL experience that would clarify this issue. At first impulse, I'd say that yellow would be the answer because it's the only color she sees as itself rather than as a grey, but then again, it might reduce contrast, which is essential for night driving. IDKBIANAO. (I don't know because I am not an opthamologist!) Thanks! Andy
  17. Hi, welcome to USMB. I suggest that you give our search a spin in advanced mode. Search for "conversion" in the Retrofitting sub-area. Keep in mind that words of 3 letters or less don't register for some reason. Good luck!
  18. hahaha.. unfortunately it is a seller's market for LSDs... I've sold a few 4.11 converted LSDs on Ebay for $500-$700.
  19. pictured clockwise from top: Me, Numbchux, Monstaru, and Phizinza in our turbo encabulator'd transcontinental incontinent secretmobile!
  20. My car has a switch hooked up to the ECU's main power relay. No switchie, no drivey. Crank it over all you want! I should put in a kill switch to the starter relay as well but I don't want to have to flip a million switches to go 3 blocks either.
