price for an ej setup
baccaruda replied to mountaingoatgruff's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You're probably fine in that range. It's worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it without them having been misled. -
Are the axle boots doing OK?

L Cable Calipers on Legacy Knuckles/Rotors/Brackets ?
baccaruda replied to discopotato03's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
PM sent! I don't know how well this would work with "non-XT6" L-calipers... -
EJ Engine and Transmission into a RX
baccaruda replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Yep. Depending on the tranny, you may also need to add a slave cylinder if it has a hydraulic clutch. also also the rear differential gear ratio. -
EA82T Fan Modifications....?
baccaruda replied to EvilDead's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
from your thread concerning the fan clutch: If you have both electric fans on at the same time, you'll probably be fine. Intercooling a turbo EA82 is the best thing you could do to REALLY stay "out of the woods." -
That'll work every time. MTFBWY.

pull and save primerblack xt
baccaruda replied to spokanesoob's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I went to Pull N Save once and saw TWO cars I'd once owned (I felt like I'd accomplished something!)... my first Subaru was there (I've had 13) and so was the RX (#11) I bought to strip for parts.. "it was then that I knew I had a Subaru problem..." You have to let them go sometimes, they're just cars... -
Just Some Teaser Pics of My Coupe
baccaruda replied to Bucky92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I wanted louvers for mine so bad... can you take a rear 3/4 shot for me to really rub it in? heh heh heh -
sometimes lightly applying the brake will help, because the EA82 cars (dunno about EA81) hav the brakes cross-plumbed. You don't bleed them in standard furthest-from-the-MC order. If you have wheels on 2 opposite corners off the ground, braking enough to halt them without halting the 2 grounded wheels should help lock things up.

I'd worry about the rust before I switch out the engines. The engine in the brat is generally more reliable and is simpler and less expensive to maintain.
-
Nice find! That's exactly the size my wagon runs and those are a lot more aggressive than what I've got now.. What kind of tires are those?
-
Dunno, Rob. It was a red 3-door - I don't know the year - with the body kit and RS graphics on the side. Drum brakes in the rear and push-button 4WD 5MT (no goodies there!).

I've seen an 87-89 RS coupe painted red. It's factory, too. Don't know if any RXes got that treatment...

Should I buy it/ Does it looks wierd to you???
baccaruda replied to RdNkBrt's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the pictures look compressed vertically. -
Your best bet with that setup is probably going to be an XT6 clutch made extra-heavy-duty, if possible. With a kevlar facing on the clutch. Really, you're best off with a Legacy or WRX transmission. More durable and more clutch options. post pics of the car to prove this isn't an April Fool's day joke.

Father's wrecked 1992 Subaru Loyale
baccaruda replied to suba258k's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It's not worth it to fix. You'd have to weld in a VERY large section from a donor car. If you pull that out and drive it, and if it takes another hit there, I guarantee you that someone in the car will die. -
Who's Gen1 Brat in Spokane?
baccaruda replied to MoscowSubaruDude's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
This Brat just popped up again downtown on Howard by the Blue Spark.. My friend took a couple of cell-phone pics. Any leads yet? (Could this perhaps be moved to OG where it's more likely to be solved?) -
Discriminating Subaru owners will not only retrofit a 2nd electric fan in place of the clutch fan, but will slot the bottom mounting holes of both fans. Removing the radiator entirely will allow you to thread in bolts slightly longer than stock, install the fans with the bolts not quite snug, and double-up two nuts on the shaft end of the bolt (inside the radiator bottom frame). remove the fans before reinstalling the radiator, of course. This will allow you to yank both fans in about a minute, making maintenance faster and easier.

Yeah, it's pretty awesome The RX 4WD is pavement-friendly because it's unlockable. When it's locked, as described above, it's for use on variable traction surfaces only.

I have an RX transmission in my lifted wagon. I'm SO LAZY that I haven't wired up the diff lock yet.. maybe in a couple more years I cruise around town in low gear and once in a while put it into high gear depending on what speed limit I'm under. It makes it easier to let the car go as fast as it seems to want without having to worry about it much. It's usually in low gear when I get onto the freeway, do the acceleration thing, and then shift into 5-low and finally 5-high. If traffic's slow on the freeway I'll maybe go back into 5-low. My wagon has larger tires than your RX, though, but I offer my example because I (and many others) don't consider the RX an offroad car as much as a street car. Think of the high/low as more of a gear splitter.

I'm probably not going to make an LSD-sticker belt buckle because getting the raised characters to be blue with the recessed portion silver (natural/unfinished) would be difficult. I might reverse the colors if it looks OK. I am going to have a basic Subaru buckle, as well as a few others . Should have an estimate and more to share about that next week. Carman, thanks for that. I'm looking into having much of my work done from the same outfit. If they don't pan out I'll PM you.

I'm finally done with the clean-up. What a pain! The plan is to make reproduction stickers, iron-on patches in 4" and perhaps in 8", and T-shirts as well. I just thought of a great way to depict the label on the shirt without making a big 12" sweat magnet where the graphic is but the shirts will probably be last. I'm thinking to put the label on the back of the shirt and put some sort of caption or graphic on the front: I'm leaning toward GOT LSD? or GOT TRACTION? in the style of the GOT MILK? ads.. but if anyone throws out a suggestion that I like better and use, I'll give that person a shirt for free! Whatchagot??! Also, give a shout if you would be interested in an 8" LSD patch. They'll cost probably $15-20 with shipping. The 4" patches will be probably $10 or less. I have no idea yet what the stickers will cost, and the shirts will probably be $20 or a little less, I'll have to talk to my screenprinter about what I have in mind.

a vacuum leak would also explain the no-diff-lock-light as the lock's vacuum actuated.
