  1. did you buy that from a guy named Brian? (Black/African-American if it helps/matters)
  2. I think the Turbo Traction term applies to the push-button single-range 4WD 5speed that the turbo cars came with... the 4WD would kick in automatically under some conditions (like bombing down Snoqualmie Pass at 70mph in a rainstorm )
  3. depends on how heavy the PO's keychain was. If they were a collector your cylinder is shot.
  4. step one: start big-rump roast project step two: clone self twice step three: teach clone A how to photoshop step four: teach clone B to flog clone A when clone A is lazy step five: profit!
  5. Thanks to everyone who posted pictures. Despite my joking around, it was very useful to see the difference between intentional shape characteristics and printing flaws typical of large nonprecision jobs. I'm going to make reissue stickers (the backing may be slightly more or less silver/chromey than original, depending on what stock is available) and patches for certain. Posters should be easy to handle (maybe mirrors for your garage-bar? better than a Budweiser mirror! ) and I'm not sure if I'm going to make LSD belt buckles. I'm also not sure what to do about putting this on a Tshirt but I'll think of something that looks good. I have some other things in the works that will blow your eyebrows off! Another LSD-related design that is out of this world ... some more logo/badge stuff (any requests? PM me)... something for all you EA81 coupe owners out there... aaand.. I'm also going to resurrect the Subaru Girl shirt one last time:horse:
  6. my thoughts exactly! We need a devil/evil grin emoticon....
  7. maybe something is screwed with the application of your right foot?
  8. new strut rod bushings. Cheap from the dealership, enjoy it when you can
  9. The first thing that strikes me is that you're in the best part of the country to find an EJ22 engine at a negligibly higher cost than an EA82. The adapter plate and clutch are often the most expensive part of the job. The wiring is not that bad with a good attitude and the Kennedy diagram. Second, "EJ it" almost ALWAYS refers to the EJ22 which has no infamous problems such as the EJ25's headgaskets. The EJ22 is comparable to the EA81 for simplicity and reliability. Third, bolt-on and computer tuning aren't necessary when running an EJ22 in an EA car. Cost-wise, you're looking at about the same as you would for the same part for an EA car, except that those don't exist (for practical purposes). OEM parts will be more expensive but auto parts stores carry all of the major things (although some parts, such as the water pump IIRC were late to be available). Fourth - there's nothing wrong with preferring the original engine. While much is made of the EA82's "disadvantages," that DOES arm you with a lot of knowledge to care for it as best as you can. Running and maintaining a vintage engine for its own sake is a time-honored practice in the car hobby (in case anyone here didn't know that ). It's your car, you can do whatever you want with it. Some people know what they want, some people want to be told what's best for their car based on certain criteria (budget? high-performance? has it been done before? how much work/$$ to repair?). Good luck!
  10. don't forget How To Keep Your Subaru Alive. http://www.worldwidecm.com/HTKYSA.pdf
  11. Chux, thanks but I'm good to go here.
  12. Gary, thanks. I am so far OK with this stuff... I'm able to approximate a lot of the English on the sticker with some of the preloaded fonts in Photoshop.. convert the letters to objects and then.. the pen tool is mightier than the sword .. then I can save as EPS, PSD, TIF, etc. Plus I'm working on it at 1200dpi. The worst part is that the original sticker is not very precise, so when blown up, the edges are all jagged, which won't do for anything larger than original size. It's just a little tedious. I have some other ideas in this same vein so keep on !
  13. the strut rod bushings will generally need replacement anyway so you may as well go for it. You're in one of the best places in the world, literally, to be dealing with subaru problems. There are so many Subarus and enthusiasts in that part of Washington it's ridiculous.
  14. yeah but that's everyone else's problem .. or rather, the collector car world has been dealing with counterfeit parts for decades... now it's our turn to have Big League problems! I'm having to go through this and clean up the characters a lot.. they'd be OK for stickers but not for other uses. I might as well look into having some posters made too..
  15. These cars are pretty basic - it's only a matter of time before you nail it down. Remember - an experiment is not a failure if you learn something. Just don't assume something's the problem and then, if after tinkering with such, you still have the problem. You've just crossed something off of the list and made the problem that much easier to solve. My suggestion, as I didn't see mention of addressing them - get new mounts for the trans and motor. Get the part numbers from the dealer and look for them on ebay where they can often be had very inexpensively. Replace your strut rod bushings too (they're reasonably cheap from the dealer) and check for bent strut rods or trashed control arms or control arm bushings while you're in there. That will quiet it down a lot and help you find the real problem. If you need to change the transmission, consider the 5speed swap and buy your motor mounts accordingly.
  16. yes, I am. Wear your differential on your sleeve.. so to speak My original idea was to make reproduction stickers to replace all of those dirty scratched-up stickers that I was annoying everyone into posting. Will probably sell the stickers in pairs to recoup production cost faster and that way everyone has one for their car and their toolbox I'm also looking into getting a small amount of belt buckles cast. They'll be over $20 and hopefully under $30.. probably with a repro sticker thrown in.
  17. gotcha. I look forward to seeing it after you're done
  18. I've got one of that brand's kits in my wagon's EJ motor. I think I put in an OEM belt I'd gotten and kept their belt as my extra. I've been driving my conversion every day since... uh, august or september? No problems. I've suggested the PCIs to other people with no second thoughts.
  19. That's a really good job on a project that could easily have looked thrown-together. Good work! I'm curious as to whether an EA81 wagon hatch would fit (for period continuity)? Did you consider that or just go with what you had with the EA82 hatch? Regardless, congrats!
