  1. I'm going to agree with GD about the EA82T engines - I don't have the patience, money, or nostalgia necessary to want one. I'd also opt for the EJ22 swap as it is an excellent long-term investment that will keep you older Subaru reliable for a long time. However... GL10 cars have some pretty nice options available, such as rear sway bars and better interiors. I would consider getting an EA82T car that ran reasonably well, and I'd plan to EJ22 it in the near future - the best of both worlds.
  2. You can make up for it by buying my 84 turbo coupe! it's got digidash parts, extra taillights, you could swap the turbo engine and wiring harness into your admittedly much-better-looking coupe..
  3. oh sure, buy that and not MY 84 coupe those louvers are awesome. Didn't think they made them for 2-door models..
  4. the EA82s usually have individual components of the gauges or of the digital characters burn out.. they are hard to read in the sun, and don't give you as much information as the analog dashes. The EA82 digidashes are probably not as vulnerable to electrical anomalies as are the EA81 dashes because they're newer technology and Subaru made a heck of a lot more of them than of the EA81 dashes so they had more "practice" to get them right.
  5. I really need to buckle down if I'm going to cast my lot with this sort of endeavor... otherwise I'll be caught with my pants down when asked what I've been doing all this time!
  6. pfft. just take it to a pay N spray twice a day and you're safe.
  7. yeah, no reason to stick around yet. (heh) I'll make a big deal when things develop so you don't have to adhere to this thread in the meantime. (har) Go ahead and peel yourself off of the USMB and go have fun. (lol)
  8. Awesome car. Wait for this to be available in larger batteries and you're golden!
  9. Cleaning mine only took two minutes. I recommend dish soap. I'm working on a, uh, coffee table book. A coffee table book of LSD stickers ...
  10. The longer that I have to wait, the longer that you guys have to wait...
  11. Yesssss.. the sticker. Show me the sticker.
  12. Show it to me. Get out there in the snow with your digital camera, crawl under the back, and take a picture. Thank you for your cooperation.
  13. I, uh, was expecting a lot worse... did I miss something?
  14. Go for it. The two-piece can be tucked up higher because you can "hinge" the center of it. I dont' know why your carrier bearing mount wouldn't work, though. All it does is take the weight off of the center of the driveshaft.
  15. there are also forums specifically dedicated to the kind of sarcastic and malicious cut-downs YOU'RE laying down. This isn't one of them.
  16. Engine: 1990 EJ22 (OBD I) .. wiring harness by me! Transmission: 1989 RX FT4WD dualrange 3.7 w/ 3.7 LSD rearend Chassis: 1986 GL10 wagon, 4" BYB/PK lift kit Suspension: 5-lug swap - REAR: XT6 full w/ RX stepped GR2 shocks. FRONT: XT6 front control arms & front calipers, legacy front spindles, caliper brackets & GR2 struts, WRX springs. XT6 front & rear sway bars. Other: Mrose adapter plate, "corrected" strut rods (4" engine drop vs. 3" trans drop), 2.25" exhaust, XT4 power steering rack
  17. Don't. You'd have them sticking out of the hatch. You'd have to build something into the hatch to receive them. You'd ram things into them while transporting things in your car or while "camping" . You wouldn't be able to hear them if you have stuff in the back of your car. It would be a pain in the butt to wire them. They'll add weight to the hatch when it's open. It would be somewhat easier, and much more useful, to mount them in the upper rear corners of the wagon. The wiring will be a little simpler and you can mount right to the frame of the car if you drill pilot holes and use self-tapping screws. I'd also suggest some quality 5x7s or something smaller-ish to save space. If you plan to install an amp, that would be able to make up for the smaller size. First, though, put better speakers in the doors - I have 6 (or 6.5, can't remember) inch speakers in all 4 doors. You'll have to get creative with the door panels in the rear IIRC, but it's not hard. I still have the stock tape deck in my wagon and it sounds OK with good speakers.
  18. EJ mounts will fit through the crossmembers' holes BUT they will be deflected at a bit of an angle.. I can't remember the angle but I'd recommend bending the mounting ears on the brackets a little to get the mounts to sit "level" on the crossmember.. they will last a LOT longer that way. I'll look at my wagon which has STI square mounts on an EJ22 and let you know. Might be able to get a picture for you.
  19. I had to hunt this stuff down so I figured I'd consolidate it into one post. Legacy 5MT gear ratios (.pdf) EA82 5MT gear ratios (USMB link) or... .jpg of EA825MT gear ratios goodies: Interco ratio calculators 4.11 RX transmission build thread Front LSD swap for EA 5speeds EA81 auto to manual swap LSD gear ratio swap I didn't make or initially find any of this info so don't give me any credit for it. I just thought to consolidate it. Enjoy!
