  1. check the fluid in the PS pump? make sure you bleed it after filling it - turn the wheel all the way lock-to-lock back and forth a few times. Easier on gravel or dirt than on pavement of course.
  2. check the timing belts.. you should be able to correct them, if they're the problem, without having to pop off the crank pulley.. see if they're off and if so, then loosen the tensioner(s) through the holes in the center cover and move the wrong belt(s) around until in the right position. the timing belt procedure is somewhere in here: http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=44 about 25 posts down is Miles Fox's EA82 timing belt guide .. it's the 4th one down with 5 stars. good luck.
  3. That looks awesome! I want to clean up my car's underbits but reseal with POR-15
  4. I had the heater core mixup happen to me to when I was R&Ring the wagon's heater. GD's tip about the junkyard is good - there are many decent cores to be had in dead cars - but an even better reason, IMO, is that you can just remove the entire heater assembly from a junk car, R&R it, and then just swap it into your car when you do the deed. It will make a day-long project into a half-day-long project without as much deadline-pressure.. and most places charge little enough for heater parts that the cost will be worth it. Also, if you're an EA81 owner, you might check the hot water valves that run between your heater core and the engine's heater hoses - yours may need replacing and it's no extra work to harvest a junk car's hot water valve while you're in there.
  5. Sweet! does it have the pass-through rear seat?
  6. yeah, you can get all 4 wheels hooked up for just over a bill.
  7. 44 foot-pounds on the flywheel bolts. Use loctite as well. The pressure plate bolts are 12 foot pounds - easy to remember because they're 12mm as well.
  8. yeah that's totally safe. I grabbed an A/C relay from an EA82 car and used that as my EA81T coupe's second fan relay.. works great. I fused both of the power sources to the relay using the little inline fuse holders that A/C'ed EA81s have so it all looks stockish. Will do the same with the second electric fan on my EA82 wagon but I'll use EA82 inline fuses so it looks OEMish.
  9. yes, get another car to drive in the meantime and DO NOT go into debt to pay for your project. Good luck!
  10. I'd suspect that there's a problem with the clutch pedal or cable or pressure plate. Disconnect the cable and see how it feels... congrats!
  11. sweet. you should paint the wagon wheels to match!
  12. told ya it was the -----------! you sound like a robot in the video
  13. Sounds like you've got it under control
  14. My EA81T coupe has an EA82T turbo (same boost but watercoolable) with a WRX downpipe and 2.5" nonmufflered exhaust and it's really smooth. I could have sourced a bigger turbo but I am not keeping this car as a permanent project, and parts are hard enough to find for EA81Ts that I didn't want to steepen the maintenance curve.... the open exhaust is really nice, though, it feels like a whole different car even with the craptacular 3speed auto. I of course have the airbox chopped out too I personally would improve the exhaust (as I've done) and then install a 5-speed in place of the slushomatic, and then work on the rear brakes and add a rear sway bar before I'd worry about putting in a bigger turbo.. but that's me
  15. Sweet. When/if XT6.net is back up, search there for tips on cleaning rust out of the metal under the "pillows."
  16. It wasn't that hard to do really... but the generator was a little expensive.
  17. I managed to leave the EA harness routed through the side of the car and crammed the EJ harness through the same hole and up the fender next to it. I just cut a chunk out of the rubber grommet, and I'll use some silicone or something to reseal it after the car's proven reliable.
  18. You can either put in spacers at the top of the strut or replace the struts and springs from any other 5-lugged subaru whose struts would suit your needs better.
  19. hm. I know I have a problem when I think "I know how to make that work!" EJ22 swap, WRX clutch, EJ trans 12" lift (at least) with transfer case solid axles from some big-rump roast truck, preferably an IH as they had awesome differential options. have fun finding a way to make it steerable
  20. that's a fairly decent trade, considering the mileage and extra major parts - and given that you are OK with working on cars. The towing IS the only possible sticky point. Get some rear discs for the brat ASAP before you tow on the road. An EJ22 swap may be in your future but if you stay with an EA81, try and end up with a hydraulic lifter motor under the hood. Luxury car = more noise deadening, fancier trim. who cares.
  21. ahh. yeah, I Duplicolored the front 10" of the hood on my wagon, it's total crap. You're better off without it. A REAL bedliner would be OK...
  22. The XT power steering rack has a quicker ratio than a stock GL rack.. I have one in my wagon. It may be a more subtle difference than what you want though.
  23. BGD sounds like he's on par with David Icke.
