Axle Help - UPDATED 4/21 - New video
baccaruda replied to Tman_567's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the video in the other thread shows the axle rotating.. it's the hub. Easy for a shop to miss. You don't even have to fink with the caliper - just remove the cotter pin and 36mm nut and then there are 4 14mm bolts which attach the hub to the rotor. Post an ad in the Wanted section asking for a hub for your car. It won't be more than $9 to ship it from anywhere in the US using flat rate Priority Mail boxes. -
Axle Help - UPDATED 4/21 - New video

OK, here's the original thread http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=73625 Tim... one very important question: was the car on the ground or on jackstands when you shot the video? If it was on the ground, then the hub is stripped and the transmission is probably OK. The hub's easy to change and one should be available via this board for a pretty low price. -
My "data" is one run up the east (steep) face of the pass at Vantage, WA with my turbowagon, pre-chopped, wherein I maxed the car out in 4th gear at like 55mph.... then I had occasion to take the same route later that year, similar weather conditions, post-chop, wherein I was pulling 90 in 5th and could have pushed the car harder. That, and 45 felt like 30 for a short bit whilst bombing around town. Whoops.

it improves performance for turbos quite noticeably. for all other engines the increase is negligible but the noise isn't
-
do you just need to change the pads or to actually remove the entire caliper?

Milage Machine. Ideas
baccaruda replied to tailgatewagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
lots 'o good advice here... don't forget to keep the car clean and waxed! -
that looks to be from an 1874 Subaru "Horseless" Coupe.. IIRC those had wooden pistons for N/A and petrified wooden pistons for turbo...

I've never been able to get a straight answer on this. It does mean "EA81 series" but I have no idea where "MY" comes from.

Spare wheel storage for Hatch??
baccaruda replied to SuBaRiNo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Subarino's on the right track - Mike W once told me that he wouldn't have mounted the side carrier the same way if he could do it again, because the upper mount is weird to configure to the car. -
Bizarre XT6 power steering issues
baccaruda replied to idosubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You could bypass the stock power steering wiring harness if you had to. Make an intermediate harness. It might be less of a pain than disassembling the car... -
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html ? Zap, what kind are those in the middle?
-
ok. you might throw a copy of the HTKYSA.pdf up there too....
-
I'll host a copy as well?
-
that's cool to know... but some earlier EJ22 motors came with dual exhaust ports in the heads instead of single... FYI

(please right click & save to conserve bandwidth!) http://www.worldwidecm.com/HTKYSA.pdf is that what you're after? or are you after an FSM? -
changed my mind, I want the 5-lug swap back.

all of them http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/Literature/brochures/brochures-80-89.html

don't you lol at me, sucker. I thought they looked swamperish but the sidewalls strongly reminded me of the snow tires I've got on my coupe now..
-
what kind are they?

Hey Chux, have you tried MMO or ATF in the trans? My RX trans in the wagon shifted a little reluctantly from what I remember (it's been off the road for a couple of years ) and I appreciate the tip about the Rislone. I used it in my Barracuda with every oil change and I think it helped... Are you using it as a conditioner or as a cleaner (to be changed out after a while)?

Flushing the Heater Core
baccaruda replied to I)arkZrobe's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
this shot is taken from the driver's side of the car - note the starter for reference. My car has a 4" lift (the engine is dropped 4") which is why the hoses are at funny angles.. but it should help you! -
the EA81T is a great motor but parts are hard to find. I have the dubious distinction of having bought the last OEM waterpump in the country, from what i can tell. If parts were plentiful, I'd say hot rod it all you want.. but don't.
