  1. You could put aftermarket gauges in the actual original dash.. either get gauges small enough to fit around stuff, or if you're replacing stock oil/temp/etc sensors with aftermarket, you could chop out the originals and replace them..

Gary's right, take that sucker to the car wash and degrease the engine.. try not to squirt anything electrical (squirt the inside of the distributor with WD40 before you go, and take the can with you in case), then see where the leak is coming from. If you're inclined, replacing the oil pan gasket would be a great occasion for replacing the motor mounts as well..
  3. I used two opposing bolts on mine; I helicoiled them as well.
  4. also, I would advise that if you flush your heater core, that you completely disconnect it from your engine and water pump because you don't want whatever's flushed to go into your engine
  5. how'd the installation go? your grille adjusting will be a little different than Ken's as you have the big chrome badge on the front of your eye instead of the black cover..

  8. interesting. as long as it's not so small that it just foams out, and as long as you reseal/replace your oil pump first, it might work. How difficult / impractical to install little nozzles for better aim?
  9. 1) I think they were the black metal rear bumpers only. 2) that might depend on whether the car is a GL or DL.
  10. I'm getting very close to having it movable. I have to bleed the brakes, finish the dash swap (not starting it without gauges!) and at least crimp in the EJ harness. I have been itching to show it off for a while! The tire size will cut down on its streetability a little, but I'm not going crazy with them and it'll have the EJ's 135hp and the RX trans so I can kick the gear ratio down a little bit when I need a boost I want it to be not an offroad-capable but a trail-capable car, that is mostly for street use and maybe autocrossing later. I'm willing to compromise on some characteristics to achieve that, and it explains why I'd choose sway bars over suspension articulation. The tires I have on it now are Cooper Discoverer Radial LTs in 215/75 r15... I found them on Craigslist for the right price and may very well choose a different tire and/or size later this year. Plus, I don't want to have to deal with the repair needs of an off-roader - I've never wanted an offroader. I want a traveller. I haven't taken any photos because my garage is too small to get any sort of an angle on it.. plus I've only recently gotten a camera that is worth a darn! I hope to be done with all of the major remaining work sometime in March.
  11. Wheeler Industries did mine for $90 about a year ago. Do you have an auto flexplate or an EJ22 flywheel to lend them as a template?
  12. I don't think it's a hatch, the rear window and mirrors are wrong, and there's a side marker light on the fender that hatches don't have. Cool pic anyway!

  16. My problem is trying to rethread the cable into the transmission itself. The plastic threads will go in halfway and then it'll pop out. I have had no luck with a couple of used cables in good shape.. anyway.. what is recommended as a lubricant for the cable?
  17. did you check the rubber insulator things I described? If they wear, they'll allow quite a bit of wobble.
  18. My lifted 86 GL10 will be a DD. It has a 4" PK lift, XT6 20mm sway bars (maybe run a 19 in the front), XT6 strut rods, 5-lug conversion (XT6), new GR2s all around, WRX springs in the front, EJ22 conversion, digidash>>>analog dash swap, XT6 seats, 15" Legacy alloys w/ 235/75/R15 tires... Not done yet but close... It's intended for traveling and mixed use, rather than only mud or only asphalt.
  19. nice. that 5th pic of the trans crossmember is showing that you double-layered the metal for reinforcement, right?
  20. Hm, I do have some minor clearance issues related to the crossmember. I'm going to address them after the car's drivable though, as I've already "adjusted" the Y-pipe a little bit..
  21. An inflator can be gotten fairly inexpensively.. I'd like to upgrade to one that has the jumpstarter built into it.. Daeron, in the EA82s, there is a little brace that is removable from inside the spare tire shelf/well. It is attached by three screws.. one plastic, 2 metal, I believe...
  22. heh.. I've seen plenty of posts that don't specify what crossmember needs messing so I like to spread the truth around and it's funny but my round EJ mounts didn't have nubs. Maybe I'm just speshul.
