  1. Have any of you guys found a source to replace the rubber seal between the door glass and the rear passenger's glass? I know it's hard to find.. the dealership said $75 each How about a source for gold strip material for the side moldings and bumpers?
  2. Hey Rick, is there a part number for that kit? Or are there any pictures of how the lines are installed?
  3. I have a friend who just drove an '84 turbo coupe from Portland to Spokane. He got 24mpg at 65-70mph, 4000ish RPM. But it was cold out, that may have helped.
  4. Kudos for popping in here, very non-shady.
  5. one brat two WRX engines two FWD auto transmissions
  6. It would make up for the weight of custom bumpers but I agree that the cost is too much. I don't know what the production costs are but I can't see paying more than $250..
  7. You might also try and find a deal on an XT6 flywheel. It's a little lighter than the EA82 cars' flywheels, and it would possibly be cheaper to get an XT6 FW instead of paying to have yours lightened and rebalanced. My EJ wagon has an XT6 flywheel that I was fortunate enough to find at the parts yard (stock would have been fine with me but i found the flywheel at the right time). I haven't finished the car yet though so I have no idea how it runs
  8. that sounds like the strut rod. I'd just replace the bent one with a straight one from a parts car. It will be hard to straighten and a never-bent rod will be safer in the long run. Mind that the crossmember is not bent where the control arm bushing bolts in. Good luck!
  9. exactly. I think I just cut that section of harness and looped those two wires straight off of the ECU (or whatever they came off of).
  10. you could probably do well making replacement rocker panels for east coasters!
  11. I think you'd be better off patching it instead of cutting out the entire section of frame. Leave the "ring" intact so you don't have to worry about whether the windshield will still fit. good luck.
  12. I ran into that too. I didn't want to beat the crap out of my new struts (Legacy) to get them to fit onto my wagon's knuckles (XT6) so I got Legacy knuckles and axles and found a Legacy caliper bracket that would accept XT6 front calipers.. I will worry about a rear E-brake later if I ever want larger brakes.. If you're interested, the Legacy caliper bracket was from a 2.5 RS.. I THINK. I went through a couple of different brackets before I found some that accepted the XT6 caliper.
  13. wow. $50 shipping is way too much.. I'd suggest that you post wanted ads here for fenders in whatever color you'd prefer. Someone here will have them and they will cost you a lot less than $75 each shipped. Edrach told me that Subaru fenders can be shipping in a bicycle shipping box, and those are not hard to come by. I've gotten 2 in a box at once, just pad them with cardboard to keep them from scratching up.
  14. No, you shouldn't. It sounds like a cheaper radiator that will just keep breaking. So you don't know what brand that is? (It would be nice if we could all avoid it ) Good characteristics have been mentioned - 2 row core, metal tanks (not plastic)... Modine is one of the better brands you can ask for but their 80s subaru radiators are getting hard to find.. One thing that is not mentioned above is a ground wire. The EA81 cars came with a ground wire at the top of the radiator; they are 3" long and attach to the top of the center support. The reason that the radiator needs to be grounded to the frame is because the radiator has that thermostatic switch for the electric fan. Since the switch grounds the fan relay *through* the radiator, that current has to go somewhere (preferably the frame) or else you will get electrolytic corrosion in the radiator. This might not be relevant to your problem but I felt like mentioning it because it gets missed a lot...
  15. It's just weird. He got the car with under 20,000 miles on it from the original owner and he says they didn't work on it. I'll confirm whether it was 4WD or 2WD with him... It's possible he's wrong but he's not one to make such a mistake.. Like most people I know could say "it had a 5-speed" and I'd just smile and nod. When Sean says "it had a 5-speed" I start checking my own facts.
  16. Has anyone ever heard of an EA81 car coming from the factory with a 5-speed dual range? My coworker had an '84 GL wagon which he purchased with 15k on it a while ago, and he says it had a 5-speed in it. He is not one to mistake a 4-speed for a 5-speed under any circumstances, and he knows an EA81 car from an EA82 car. Any thoughts??
  17. My friend found something just now! but thanks anyway. good luck to your friend.. most of those parts would be inexpensive at pull n save...
  18. how much for it as-is? i know someone who might want it..
