  1. The digital dashes look cool...

But they're hard to read in the sun, their gauges are less accurate, the digital elements in them can burn out so part of the gauge doesn't work, and it's really complicated to swap dashes.. you have to change the sensors that feed the gauges, and the wiring is sort of complicated to work out.

Some people have swapped their digital dashes out for analog dashes but nobody swaps analog for digital.

If you want to get a feel for what you're looking into, run a search for DASH SWAP in Older Generation and Retrofitting.

  2. I will post details on the Superbeetle struts when I get around to that part, but there is a couple threads with some info on them here somewhere, I ran across one inadvertently just a few days ago, but cannot remember where or how I came to find it...

    Probably one of Brian's.

  3. OK... I replaced the drain valve and the fuel tank pressure control solenoid (both used parts from a non-coding car) and it fixed these codes....

    but now they're back! :banghead:

This car lives at my dad's place and spends most of its time sitting, if that's at all relevant. Has half a tank of gas.

I'm hoping that there's something ELSE in common concurrence with these two codes that doesn't involve changing all of the rubber lines under the car... anyone know?

    thanks,

    Andy

  4. Hi, welcome to USMB!

The power steering swap has been done many times and is simple.

Let me show you a couple of things about the board - first, at the bottom of any topic's page, you can see related posts - they may be for-sale posts but check them out in case they have a list or a link to one.

Second, give our search a try. It doesn't like words of 3 characters or less so try "power steering swap EA81" but not "add power steering to EA81."

    Good luck!

  5. You bought a car sight unseen and didn't have an impartial third party check it out.

I dont think YellowSub was being dishonest in this sale

If he can't or won't chip in for the repairs then it's probably best to consider your lesson learned and quit tarnishing his name here. How do we know your mechanic knows what he's talking about, for instance?

Don't get me wrong, I'm sorry the car isn't running and I hope you can get it back together soon, but you supposedly don't think you got ripped off, according to your post I quoted, so unless you have cause to drag someone's name through the mud, you probably shouldn't.

  6. Importing those would probably cost more than machine work to drill rims or hubs, and the safety issue IS a bit of a wild card. China does make their own cars and such though. I'd try to get them spec'd out if you get some, to make sure they're safe... it's your money :dead:
