  1. that would be cool. for EA82 platform cars, there are 17, 18, 19, and 20mm front sway bars, and no 17 for the back. Lots of combinations available! Hope you can weld
  2. i've always called it an airfoil, but that's because it's not a spoiler, it sounds cool, and i don't know what else to call it. might be inaccurate. They stabilize the aerodynamics in the rear of the car, moreso at higher speeds. I've seen it said that it recovers a few horsepower that would be lost resisting a more turbulent airflow, but I think it's more likely that it recovers a few miles per gallon (or more likely, miles per tank) That stabilization effect probably doesn't blow dust off of the window as much as keep it from settling in the first place, but I don't drive in dusty areas much either. Whatever they are supposed to do, they do look pretty cool
  3. Hey Ed. Yeah, I'm going to pull some panels off today and see how the widgets move. maybe I'll get lucky and get to skip the core/valve, but i'm not going to count on it. at least it's sunny today.
  4. Hi Jerry.. You and Ed are the patron saints of this board - nobody goes out of their way more to help other people. I want to let you know that I am shipping those trim rings on Monday. I am sending you a PM about the core, thanks a lot!
  5. OK. It seems that the airflow would sort of run perpendicular to the piece that was removed, and the heater core occupies much of the space that piece covers anyway. So when I chop this thing open, that's one less thing to worry about. thanks.
  6. well, the heater was lacking last winter and i replaced the thermostat sometime last spring/summer, and the problem's worse. I don't suspect the thermostat although I have one to put in. The airflow is also weak and the flow directer is kind of screwy, so I need to get into the whole thing anyway.
  7. Thanks Mick! I was contemplating chasing down a HCV from another make of car but I don't think it would be worth the time. Now, did you glue the removed piece back onto the box afterward? I can't tell from the pics.
  8. My brat has no heat. I have a new heater core coming in today. I just now remembered that the EA81s have the heater control valve instead of a diverter flap. Of course there aren't any HCVs in town, and it's Friday. Can a heater control valve be cleaned out or refurbished? Does anybody have a picture of one? thanks.
  9. this allowed you to bore it out more, yes? that's pretty shrewd. do you just have a tube going from the thermostat to the water pump side? do you even run a thermostat? as far as the carbon fiber hood goes, you are in uncharted territory there. Have you considered fabricating a tube frame for the front and having a clamshell front end made? That would save you even more weight...
  10. hey, that's one sick car. It sounds like you're used to people calling BS on your car's power. I don't think anyone here doubts what it can do. We know that EA81s can be teased into putting out that kind of power, but there aren't many out there, and it usually costs a bit to do it. A few people here have run hi-po EA81s before. I think Qman still does. If you want to post the dyno chart, we'd love to see it. If not, it's still obvious that your car is competitive. Welcome to the board.
  11. I cut mine on a borrowed scroll saw and it cost me about $75 total. In the non-event that I were going to sell them, I'd want at least $150 for the time it takes. If you're suspicious of the money being well spent, I'd say that $175 is a fair price for a plate.
  12. you should put helicoils in your heads to replace the old studs. A bolt is not the best choice for some reason I can't recall right now, something about making it easier to ruin the head if the exhaust takes a hit, I think? not sure.
  13. no offense - i appreciate that you want to be helpful - but I feel it's the responsibility of the person who posts the problem to keep the thread relevant if the problem persists. It's better for someone to fix their car's problem and then forget to journal their solution than for us to monitor all or most problem threads for closure. If someone's inconvenienced enough by something, they (hopefully) know that they are welcome to keep their thread active as long as it takes for the problem to be resolved. Repeat questions are going to come up no matter how thoroughly we discuss any problem. And whether a solution is found or not, the search function will give them the same jumpstart toward diagnosing their problem even if the threads aren't resolved. There are so many people on the board that we have no choice but to leave people responsible for tracking their own threads and problems.
  14. some people in the vendor sales forum make them: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=-1&f=35 also, i have an A-bar for sale; see this thread http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=47346 and I'm in spokane.
  15. i hate carburetors. anything that can be described as a "gizmo" has no place on a car IMO.
  16. the best way to start is to give the car a full tune up. After that, blame the carburetor
  17. Hi David, welcome to the board. Your car looks great, better than some with under 100k on it.

  19. well, you're right to suspect the weight of the trailer. If you take out the torsion bars and put in bump stops or maybe some quad-wheeler shocks, that might do it for you.
  20. Mark, what year 200SX are we talking? And thanks for the info.
