1. I have a complete '86 FSM set as well as an extra '86 electrical FSM book, I have a 1984 FSM and my brat's an 83, close enough, and I have a 2E HTKYSA. Also a 1990 Legacy electrical FSM.
2. I used a scroll saw and 5 or 6 jigsaw blades to cut my adapter plate [/img] Those top 4 holes were just helicoiled tonight. I was going to buy bolts too but the hardware store didn't have the right length. Now it occurs to me that maybe I should thread in some studs? I think bolts would be better... Also, after cutting mine to match the profile of the engine, i would instead endorse other people to cut theirs with a more generic and broad shape such as hatchmonster's, pictured above. It would also leave more metal around all 6 of the major holes. Cutting it to the exact shape is much more time consuming and it is difficult to cut it satisfactorily straight. If I ever make another adapter plate I won't do it the same way I did this one. ... I'm looking forward to installing these: Stainless steel braided, teflon cored brake lines (+30 HP!) Also, I got this rooftop cargo box for free. I may paint it black. That's the wagon's heater disassembled all over the top of it. It'll go back together quickly after i get another particular part out of a junkyard car's heater (the door with the vinyl-covered foam). I hope to have it towed into my garage next week. I'm getting shelves for all the crap in there so there's room for the car.
3. it should fit fine. the older brumbys need frame rail surgery, but your generation doesn't.
4. have a chart: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/specs/mechanical/engine-specs.html
5. I have an 86 GL10 wagon with: No engine (EJ22 awaiting major tuneup), RX transmission & LSD, kevlar clutch disc, HD pressure plate, newer radiator, 2.5" open exhaust with perf. muffler. 5-lug conversion using 1990 Legacy FWD axles, knuckles, XT6 other parts. Also have 5 "revolver" legacy wheels for it to wear. 4" PK/BYB lift kit installed except for the strut extensions... have to wait till the engine's in so the car is heavy enough to jack the suspension together. New KYB GR2s (RX rear, Legacy w/ WRX springs in the front) and new brakes all the way around PLUS my super sick stainless steel brake lines, lengthened to compensate for the lift. I can see that you're impressed 19mm RX sway bar in front, 20mm XT6 sway bar in the rear, XT6 seats in the cabin. Remanufactured XT4 power steering rack. left to install are the toyota tube bumper, the wiring, the rebuilt heater plenum, then after it's running, an analog dash conversion, 2 secret mods, and tailgate lock/handle, screened windows, and more 12v outlets in the rear for camping... After that I will sell the brat and purchase a propane conversion for the wagon! Here are pictures of my newly-finished EA/EJ adapter plate. I have yet to plane the outer surface smooth and I need to install its helicoils tomorrow morning. hm, pics in a bit...
6. My friend Justin wanted to put a camper top on his wagon in the worst way. I don't think he ever did though. I wonder if the wagon's roof would be too short. If all goes well, I will be towing my wagon to my garage next week or weekend. After that the pace of my project will pick up quite a bit. I hope to be driving the wagon this winter. After it's running I'll see how quickly I can do that to the tailgate. Maybe someone will beat me to it. I also have another really slick interior modification to pull off, but that one's going to wait I am 1000% sure that nobody's done this one before. Joel, how much did that sunroof cost you? I have wanted one for at least 3 years now.
7. Hey Noah. I drilled and tapped all 4 of my adapter's top holes tonight. I have to buy 1 more helicoil as well as some red Loctite, and that way I can install all of it before work, and it's ready to ship. Let me know. I can overnight it via postal for $40 (i checked a zip code in detroit) or send it 2-day priority for about $18 but then you wouldn't get it until Friday. does your deadline still apply? is there anyone that can knock on John's door and mail Noah's adapter?

9. i think i'd choose one of those Lofty Shelters roof tents. I've planned for a while though to put screened slider windows in the wagon's rear quarter windows, as well as an exterior door handle and extra switch in the tailgate so I can secure and open it when sleeping in the car. that's a little cheaper and easier than buying a $2k tent, especially since I recently got a free cargo box for the top of the car
10. hm, put a new door on it before the insurance co. sees it.
11. that sounds like a screaming deal. at worst you could put in a manual transmission, at best you could change the ATF & filter and drive it. I know I've heard of at least a couple instances where someone has changed the filter and fluid on an auto trans that "needed to be replaced" and laughed all the way home. You should buy it and put the EJ22T in your brat
12. Can you give more pictures/details for that alternator setup, please?
13. I think it's where you're supposed to secure the flat tire after you change it.
14. heh. Brian/monstaru has an engine in his garage whose oil pump was apparently GLUED IN by some squirrel with a wrench at Les Schwab. Yep, that sucker broke right in half inside the block, and it is not pretty. Apparently, the former owner of that engine's car had all the work done at a Les Schwab, and some jerk used the strong stuff on the oil pump gasket. I watched him trying to remove it the right way, and it snapped right in front of us. The oil pump WAS fairly new, too. *picture a couple of hillbillies in a garage, old guy says to the new guy, "use this hyar tube t' seal EVERYTHANG"*
15. i would wonder if steel would be better than aluminum for that adapter?
16. it's excruciatingly slow sometimes. if it's too difficult you may want to consider rebuilding the caliper. calipers with the emergency brakes must have the piston screwed in clockwise, calipers with no emergency brake may have the piston just pushed striaght in with a clamp or something.
17. take off all that stuff on the front first so you can see what you're getting into. take off the fenders as well. you can replace the fenders, bumper, hood, grille, and lights for $200 or less in many parts yards. Suspension parts can usually be had for $12-$25 each as well. Your car's suspension is probably fine. You may be able to pull much of it out and minimize the welding needed. Having access to welding services has saved many cars in worse shape.. good luck. save your reciepts in case the state patrol needs to see them to "un-total" the car.

19. there might be a market on this board for those distributors..
