  1. nice wheels! you have great taste. I hope you enjoy them! uh, yeah, so I forgot to send the paint with them, but it's Duplicolor dark charcoal - T271 with some clearcoat over them. There are a few layers of older paint underneath that I inherited when I got them from Andrew a few years ago. And if you think they look good there, they'll look even better when washed and with the curb rubbing repainted... I'd also like to thank all of you who were involved in helping me sell and transport them. Especially Pat! I'll miss seeing them on my car, but eventually I hope to get some "revolver" turbo legacy wheels in a similar color since I'm adding a lug to each corner
  2. I would like to beg, steal, or borrow the electical section of a FSM for 1986, please, so I can get the wiring diagrams I need for my EJ swap. I intend to photocopy the necessary material so there will be no risk of soiling the book. I will send a deposit of $30 to anyone willing to loan this to me. thanks Andy
  3. can you drill and tap the heads on the pre-84 models? (like mine? )
  4. Since my EJ donor car is an automatic, I wouldn't mind using the simpler wiring from a manual transmission EJ car. Is the wiring harness on the engine the same? (do I only need to grab the MT computer and dash/body harness? or MT engine harness too?) I know some of the wiring runs behind the fenders. Do I need to yank the fenders to chase and replace the wiring for the swap? Since my car is a GL10, am I looking at keeping the EA82T computer as well as adding the EJ22 computer? I'm asking regarding keeping the trip computer and digidash as I don't want to add the work of swapping an analog dash in.. yet. thanks!
  5. keep an eye on the Meet & Greet forum for WCSS stuff.
  6. WHEN WE LAST LEFT OUR HERO... he was stymied by the loss of the perfect engine donor candidate and left with nothing but unanswered questions... now I have a 1990 legacy with a few more miles but for ZERO DOLLARS BABY (just have to change a fender and a bumper on its replacement, for the old owner). I've also found out that the XT6 clutch was toast so I took it back to the junkyard, slapped the clerk around and got my money back. I also have the XT6 seats installed in my wagon (looks so good it hurts not to be driving it!) and with the legacy I have all parts needed to complete the 5 lug swap. Including new front axles. Next step is extracting the EJ22 and wiring and gas pedal/cable and 5 lug parts and disposing of the corpse. Thanks to the low low cost of the donor, I will probably buy some new KYB GR2s for the front (to match the ones in the back) as soon as I have the other costs all figured out. I will probably order a lift with my tax refund. I plan to roll into WCSS 7 (or 8 or whatever) with all that and tinted windows .... STAY TUNED FOR THE NEXT CHAPTER....
  7. that's a sweet looking wagon. bet you're glad you kept it after the Incident.. I remember you advertised it for sale... it's good looking EA82 wagons like yours and Tex's that make me want (need ) to lift mine... you should consider the EJ22 swap. the more of us that do it, the easier it will get due to accumulation of info. the adapter plate is probably the biggest thing discouraging people bur they are not hard to make. and your car already has a 5 speed in it.. you could hook it up to that RX transmission (unless you want the standard dual range super-low ratio) you just found... and you could sell the LSD in that RX to start paying for the swap!
  8. Looks like I will be covered thanks to either Tex or Zap or Ed. thanks guys.
  9. Hey guys. A friend of mine who is hurting for a car right now is interested in buying a legacy I located in Lynnwood. We're concerned about where we can stow it for a week or two, maximum, until we can get over from Spokane to retrieve it. I'm going to try for this weekend but one never knows... I'm hoping that someone can please please please take custody of this car and its title for a short while after we arrange for the owner to recieve the money. If I can come up this weekend, perhaps it would just be a case of the title and not the car as well. This is contingent upon her getting the money to him before someone else does, of course. We're hoping to resolve that tomorrow. If anyone can help please contact me ASAP, here or by email or at 509-263-3853 and thank you thank you thank you. edit: Also, as this is my 2112th post, I'd just like to say that Rush kicks @$$.
  10. my brat did that a few days ago when we were at -10ish. i guessed at the thermostat and/or the heater core. i put cardboard in front of the radiator (as best i could around the 3rd eye) and it did nothing. I have a new dealer thermostat (stock temp i think) and a new (CSF or modine) radiator in the car.. the heater struck me as fairly weak before this anyway. i'll probably tackle the heater core when it warms up outside...
  11. will the waterpump from my GL10 turbowagon (PS, A/C, pulley slides over studs in the waterpump and fastens with nuts) work on a turbo XT with PS and A/C? since the pulley is in theory interchangeable...
  12. why are the control arms sticking out?
  13. Hi, this is getting to be a very popular project. there is lots of info in this particular forum and there are at least two people posting about this project now. I am one of them and neither me nor the other guy seem to be updating very often, probably because it's cold out. the first thing you should know is that we have a very technologically advanced research and development dept hidden under Mt. Rainier, and they have devised ways to do this swap either with the stock trans and an adapter plate, or by adding the legacy trans. the legacy trans *is* built for a little more power than the stock trans but most if not all of us agree that there is no problem using the stock trans if you're not hotrodding the engine too. also, adding the legacy trans means a little more work.
  14. I don't have an ECU for you but i do have this advice: i would recommend that you inspect your car's grounding in the engine bay. the digital dash cars are very susceptible to electrical gremlins because the computer technology then was newer and more fragile than today's. there should be a ground wire from the engine wiring harness to somewhere on the intake (thermostat i perhaps), one from the trans to the frame where the spare tire is supported, one from the neg. terminal of the battery to the water pump arm, and one from that arm to the frame in the driver's front corner. there are probably a couple other small ones on the intake and maybe in the ignition wiring off the coil perhaps but there are the main ones. give the rest of your electrical stuff a checkup too.
  15. i've done this to my 86. i remember that some of the shift linkage hardware is particular to the RX transmission; that will be obvious enough when you have them next to each other. you can also wire the diff lock switch using the wiring for the push button 4WD on the GL10 tranny as it uses the same vacuum solenoid. sorry i don't have a wiring diagram but yes this is as easy as it sounds. and other RX parts that your wagon will like include the LSD, shocks/struts, strut rods, and sway bars.
  16. what a neat looking EA81. i like those mirrors on the fenders. seems to me i've seen the fender turn signal somewhere before, though
  17. no, they're more like legacy or impreza calipers with a front e-brake, which is why they're perfect for the 5 lug conversion. actual impreza or legacy calipers wouldn't have the e-brake in the front so you'd have more to modify. someone crossreferenced a bolt on rear caliper for the 4-lug subarus, it is a very recent thread if you search for the reference... i just swapped my xt6 rear brake stuff onto my wagon last weekend, hoping to get to breaking down the front end this sunday... good luck with yours
  18. wow, that's a great price. my wagon's kevlar clutch cost me $265 and while i'm not sure about the pressure plate (i asked for HD, and if a truck clutch shop can do a custom order for a subaru odds are they got it *all* right) i'm sure mine is most like a stage 2. it's not a button clutch or anything, just (dual) kevlar facing on what looks like an otherwise ordinary disc. i didn't need it, admittedly, for the turb engine(s) its been hooked up to since i got it, but it will be nice to have with a 2.2 pushing it
  19. would you please post some pictures of your project if you have them? I'll be making my own adapter for my EJ22-into-turbowagon project...
  20. i've never had to compress the springs to drop a front strut.. at most you'll need to unbolt the control arm as well as the sway bar. and i would recommend using only a proper spring compressor to compress springs. getting your head pulverized by a rogue spring wouldn't be very much fun. can you say closed coffin funeral?
  21. the XT6 rear calipers and the GL rear calipers are the same.
