Nightmare Mechanic/EA82 Carb Issues.
baccaruda replied to blinkibus's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
sorry to hear about your troubles. i'd recommend the better business bureau - register a complaint and ask for suggestions. you could call a lawyer and ask for a little advice over the phone; that will probably lead to small claims court. and if you are going to replace your carburetor again, you might try to end up with a weber. i hope it goes well for you. if nothing else someone here can probably hook you up with a tolerable used carb for the time being. -
that sounds like a really great sleeper. you might have a lot of fun with it if you run it with an off colored fender and 1 hubcap missing, maybe an "I Love My Cat" bumper sticker.. make it the most unassuming sleeper ever and smoke people. . you might check into KYB struts too. good luck with your project.

hey, we should start a USMB picture of the year contest. this would be a great entry.

wow. i hope they're OK but that was still really cool. it looks like the driver didn't drift out of the turn before the jump soon enough. he was crooked from the start of it.
-
those look cool, but I'd hate to try to find white mudflaps for the front!
-
yep. use the EA82 strut tops on whatever EJ struts you end up using.
-
took you long enough! looks good. oh, and give me your wheels. those are nice.

He probably would be glad I don't have it yet as I don't pay for much of my software so how many??

Where can I get a bigger/better radiator??
baccaruda replied to pwoens's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Performance Radiator across from the Kmart on E. Sprague has them sometimes. They carry various brands. I bought a double row Modine for my brat for $110 I think. Also try A-Star Distributing on N. Market. They do large collision repair items and include radiators. Their selection varies as well. -
Whoohoo! My newest!! It's home, It's MINE!!

what's the deal with kevlar? my wagon has a kev clutch disc..
-
how many VINs do you have so far, Corky?
-
that piece is usually made with 1 block for all 3 bolt holes.. i'd wonder if that would be a better way to go regarding flex issues? i'm all for D-I-Y though. good luck.

i'm going to use a dead transmission that Brian/Monstaru has in his garage, and the EJ22 once i get it, to make the template, to make the adapter. I have access to a drill press and jigsaw and dremel tool and all that good stuff. Should be super easy since the bottom studs/holes line up the same on EA and EJ transmissions. Drill the bottom two holes, mark the top/outer EJ engine and bottom/inner EA trans, and cut out a template! I just got ahold of an XT6 flywheel thanks to Brian, as well as an XT6 clutch, so I will use the XT6 flywheel (adjust the bolt holes to fit the EJ crank), my wagon's current kevlar clutch disc, and I'm going to have a shop eyeball the XT6 pressure plate before I go ahead and use it. For all I know it could be a regular EA82T clutch if someone didn't want to pay extra (?) for an XT6 clutch package. It looks like it was used aggressively from the heat coloration, so it may be a case of a non-XT6 clutch that was slipping because the XT6 engine was too strong for it.

if you're OK with that, then so am I. let me know if you'd like it. thanks Andy

my brat has a new radiator and a new thermostat, and when it's warmed up the needle is just under the line. The heater doesn't blow all that hot either. I think I may have to replace the heater core (next spring )

Yes, mine's from 1986. I can give you the part numbers from it later if you like. if your car is 1985-1986 (orange digidash) it should work OK.. I'm interested in getting $20 for it... hm, i just noticed that you're "over there" ... i don't know if there are any significant differences between cars released in Europe compared to the US... anyone else know?
-
I've obtained an XT6 flywheel and clutch assy. for my EJ-into-wagon project... I have a kevlar-faced clutch disc and regular EA82T pressure plate in it now.. will my "regular" kevlar disc work OK with the XT6 pressure plate (which I understand grabs harder)?

How rare was a "awd" ea82t wagon
baccaruda replied to pwoens's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That frame will be best repaired with some fresh metal, I think looks like a nice car! I like that color blue a lot. That interior is not THE Pimp Interior but the velour "la-z-boy" style still gets pimp points. I've seen them in blue and grey, don't know if they made tan as well... judging from your pictures you must live somewhere on the east side? (style of houses) also check your PMs. -
It is generally preferred as the gear ratios are more aggressive for off road driving. here is a resource for you: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2666&highlight=gear+ratio

Low Fuel LED being a tad bit too sensitive?
baccaruda replied to Phaedras's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
some of the crap would get past the filter and get into all sorts of places you don't want to have to clean out for at least 100,000 miles more the best way to clean out the tank is to drain it and remove it, and take it to a radiator shop, or buy a backyard flush and seal kit.. but radiator shops can contain and dispose of the waste fluids really conveniently. You could also inspect your fuel gauge sending unit at the tank.
