  1. if you need a new radiator in spokane, call A-Star distributing; they often have the best price and carry reputable brands like modine or PCS? (P-something-something) .. there's another good shop across from the Kmart on east Sprague, can't remember the name. ask for a 2 row core. it'll probably be for an automatic, maybe for a turbo as well.
  2. you may also have disconnected a vacuum line as well. i'd guess that a vacuum leak is more likely. double check all the vacuum lines near the MAF.
  3. i called him again to ask for more details. he's been dealing with this for about 10,000 miles. he's replaced the gas cap and the fuel pump as well as the tank. i'd suspect something to do with the filler neck or a gas line. dave, thanks. i'll look at that when i see his car. do you get under the car to find it or is it inside the bed (take off an access panel)?
  4. i'm going to look at someone's 79 brat in a few days.. he notices a strong gas odor from the rear of the car (not the engine bay) and can find no visible leak. he has just replaced the gas tank. should i suspect the filler neck? as in it may not be venting properly? or just the gas cap perhaps?
  5. provided you can find room for all the turbo goodies (and an intercooler?) you should consider putting EA82T pistons in there to fix the compression problem. maybe go with carb pistons for a partial downgrade but I'd address that for certain. and post pics
  6. leather seats vs dogs and harder to find parts versus TURBO station wagon? legacy baby!
  7. if you can't find them at the JY, you can get them aftermarket maybe at the auto parts wiring dept or you can get tthe plastic threaded plugs (like for license plates and screw some eyehooks into them an use zip ties.
  8. would it matter if this one has a sidemount starter (according to what brian told me)?
  9. mmm, the wires are 8mm accels less than a year old.. i'll pull a couple plugs in the AM i guess. thanks.
  10. so. my brat is running sluggish and rough. suspected a vacuum leak but a whole can of carb cleaner revealed nothing except a bunch of pretty colors fuel filters have been in for a month roughly, this problem is a few days old. started intermittently and is now almost full time. a little more reluctant to occur when the engine's cold but it's starting to happen anyway. I looked under the hood in the dark and observed some lighting effects around the #1 and #3 plugs (and a little around #2, nothing around #4) and i'm sure they weren't due to the carb cleaner! I'm guessing that my plugs aren't getting their full amount of juice for some reason but i'm not sure where to go next?
  11. car is an 86 brat, might have an EA71 put in as the EA81 is tired. 4sp is dead and out of the car. if he puts the EA71 in, is the 5 speed conversion just the same as for an EA81? I'd think it is except I don't know if the EA71 crank will accept an EA82 flywheel.
  12. hey B, here's the link to the spec chart i mentioned on the phone http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/specs/mechanical/engine-specs.html ..looks like a 5-7 HP difference at the most.
  13. nah, we just don't got none a' them there fancy weldermajigs.
  14. you mean when doing a 5 speed swap into a 4 speed car. drilling and tapping instead of welding, right?
  15. yeah, i guess the diff can come out either way. I've never had an outer rear boot blow. all others so far though!
  16. i thought the outer cup on axles wouldn't disassemble? is that fronts only?another option would be to swap 2WD control arms onto there. then you could lose the differential as well and save a little weight.
  17. first of all AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH (jealous) and congrats. second of all, yes. get 4wd wagon suspension. sedans are lighter and 2wds are lighter duty. Well, front for a 4WD sedan is the same but rears are not anyway. here's The Chart (thanks to WJM for hosting):
  18. AAAARGH words cannot express how jealous I am that someone did this before me. I've had a link to a vendor in my favorites for a couple of years now. safari wagons are the best! more pics please?
  19. if your front suspension is adjustable, the struts have two adjusters under the spring. 21 mm i think.
  20. or exhibition if you prefer. make a custom subaru using photoshop! inspired by that other thread, but instead of real pics of real cars we're going all fake here. i submit my stretch brat picture from a while ago:
  21. here's the best picture of my first turbowagon and the best picture of my current turbowagon. EDIT: rather, here's two good pics of my current turbowagon followed by one good pic of my old turbowagon. where's my coffee?
  22. worst case scenario would be a bad rack and pinion. it will probably be easy to see where the leak occurred, but otherwise, check the hydraulic fittings first, then the pump, then the R/P. that's also in order of ease of replacement If you have to change the rack and pinion it can be done in less than a day.
