  1. mine have a leak somewhere on the block. can I get away with bulk heater line instead of the prebent replacements, or is there too much stuff in the way? I'd rather spend less $$ at the moment.
  2. hm, heard somewhere that the part numbers for the pistons were the same. either I'm wrong or the CR difference is in the heads. Either way, Tex knows better than to take me seriously

  4. carbs have the same compression as turbos, SPFI and MPFI are the same as eacy other for high compression. don't forget the rottweiler on a chain to complete your new lifestyle (above if you missed it).
  5. yeah, get a used carby block and have it checked, then all you have to worry about is heads. and i'd recommend an "apartment" made out of a few large industrial appliance boxes. put a tarp over the tops and set the boxes on cinder blocks to keep the rain out. use your otherwise-idle car battery with a 12v converter so you can power a light bulb and your alarm clock. good luck!

  9. hm, i use the napa (valvoline) high mileage oil, pretty good for a low price is what i've always thought.. maybe i could plumb in a draincock somewhere.. thanks.
  10. I'm going to install an EA81T oil cooler on my brat soon.. I have a question about oil changes.. will there be dirty oil stuck in the oil cooler's radiator or, since they open and close thermostatically (right?), does it sit high enough that it all drains out through the filter adapter into the pan when you shut the car off? thanks

  13. i've always loved the way a fully loaded EA82 wagon looks, with tinted windows and a lift kit. i've put some effort into hotrodding it as well, but it'll never be the monster EA82T that WJM and Subarutex have created, to name a couple.. oh well. I've really grown to appreciate the EA81 for it's SIMPLICITY though, and I'm lucky to have a brat in great shape.. does anyone who owns a brat NOT like it?
  14. one of the pizza drivers for the comp i used to work for caught a piece of stray REBAR right in the head after it bounced through his windshield on the highway.. he lived but he's not quite the same...
  15. sounds like the coolant return line from the turbo. it's rubber with a foil insulator wrapped around it. it's a dealer part, less than $20. i believe it's easiest to change if you take the turbo off from the top. you should consider changing the crossover pipe and dowmpipe exhaust gaskets off of the turbo with it, and definitely change the oil return line next to the coolant return line, all of those are dealer items. it might be easier to reach the hoses from under the car with the passenger axle pulled, but try taking the turbo off first.

  20. or, it's a leftover EA81T pipe but you'd think it would have been used on an early 85 model, not an 86. I had one of those on a turbo EA82 as well. not hooked up to anything, nothing to hook it up to.

  23. yep! you'll need the vacuum gadgets to activate the 4WD though. above the master cylinder, two black solenoids with gren plastic snouts for the vacuum lines, which should to to a 5" disc thingy on the trans. wire it up and use the shifter from the turbo car, or use another switch. take the shifter linkage too because sometimes those are different. exhaust to trans mount might be off too, no biggie.
