  1. Thanks guys! Hey Knucklehead, do you have a part number for the adaptor? I called Grant because I had a part number and was hoping that it was still available and unfortunately it is discontinued. The man I talked to when I called them was Grant's trouble shooter and I could not have been more impressed. His name is Will and he is bending over backwards to try and help me. He took my phone number and he went to the manufacturing part of the business and questioned them with no luck. He called me back and told me to measure the steering shaft and count the splines and he is going to try and fix me up. That just "super size" impressed me and hopefully he will be able to cross reference it to another and fix me up. If he can find a fit, then I will post the details and part numbers for all that cares and knock this problem in the head, or as Barney Fife says "nip it in the bud"! Thanks to all.
  2. Thanks for the info ya'll and if any other members have some good info like the first two responses then let me know, I will need all the leads I can get. I hear you carfreak85 , you gave me my first chuckle this morning and I needed it. If ya'll happen across one, drop me a line if its no trouble.
  3. Hey guys, I have a Lecarra steering wheel that I want to put in my 1983 GL coupe. Does anyone know who makes a adapter kit to make aftermarket steering wheels bolt up to a second gen Subaru? It does not have to be Lecarra because if there is another brand that makes a kit then I may go with that brand of steering wheel. The wheel I have is leather wrapped in burgundy leather and the interior in my coupe is gray so I was considering having the burgundy leather removed and have gray leather replaced around it. I imagine that having my wheel recovered the right way will probably be as costly as just buying a wheel that matches my gray interior. If anybody knows of an adapter please give me all the info that you know about it and thanks ahead of time.
  4. I appreciate the information. What you said about each way I was questioning to have power steering is pretty much what I was thinking the outcome would be so I will use the donor cars cross-member and all the other brackets and stuff to have a factory setup, it will make new parts sourcing a lot easier and cheaper. Thanks for the tips Gloyale.
  5. Hey guys I certainly appreciate all of the responses and advice. I guess I will go with a factory power rack setup so now the question is, are there electric power steering fluid pumps that could be used to power the factory rack so I don't have to use the power robbing belt driven factory pump? Another thing that I have been told is that the engine cross members are different between the manual rack and the power rack, do any of you know if there is a difference and if there is, what is it? Thanks a bunch!!!!!!
  6. Hey members, I am trying to find out if any companies are offering a universal electric power steering kit for our EA81 cars that about 99% of them have manual steering. If anyone has knowledge of this question and knows if it does or doesn't exist please let me know because I can't help but think that some company has a kit that would work, I just can't find them. Thanks ahead of time for those who respond.
  7. I am trying to find the website that had 1st and 2nd gen Subarus brochures, colors, accessories and so much more. The website had the word indy in the address from what I can remember. If anyone can can let me know how to access that website, I would be very grateful. There used to be a link to the website on this website because thats were I first saw it. Thanks to all.
  8. Yea, I should have been clearer on what my buddy said. He meant that the bolt holes were there for power steering related brackets. I certainly didn't mean to bolt the rack to the engine. Sorry for my lack of clarification.
  9. Do the Frankenmotors have headgasket issues?
  10. I also was told by a subaru friend that each head has to have a tapped hole , machined into each head for the power rack bracket's. He said that earlier years had a flat spot on one or both the heads that had to be drilled and tapped. Fortunatly they are already there on my 1985 EA81. So there is something else to put in the pot before stirring.
  11. I'm going to stay with a 2.2l in my gen-2 hatch. But that is a super cool brat!
  12. Man you sure got some cool words in that regurgitation ! But seriously folks, I did find a lot of specifications about the frankenmotor. I found them on this website in the performance tech forums/NA fuel injection engine tech. Now I wonder if a EA81 bodied car could handle the motor with it having the stock drivetrain? The motor being the only exception, obviously.
  13. This one has a hard time doing 55 on flat ground. It should do that in 5th gear with 1/4 throttle.
  14. Go back a page and it should clear things up. I guess is was my fault for answering two threads in a row.
  15. Here we go: 22680 AA100 AFH38-01 A 8704 HITACHI 8 Thats excactly how it appears on the mass air sensor body. I hope you have one. Let me know what you find.
  16. Great ! That will give me A reason to go out in this snow. I'll holler back in A little bit...
  17. Thanks Guys, I thought Grant made them at one time. I wish they still did. Maybe I can search the part number and locate one.
  18. Killer hatch! Those louvers look awesome! What were the louvers for originally and how did you combine them?
  19. Yea man, I am looking for that brat. Gotta see it. Even if I don't build A frankenmotor its going to have A strong 2.2l. I will take tons of pictures of the whole build and post them as I go. Thanks for your brains! Let me know if you find A link to that brat....
  20. I hear ya ! What do you think about the frankenmotor? I have been trying to find the original post that has the build specifications of that motor. All the links I come up with, is people trying to make it better. All the other links are talking about how great it is. Just from the bits and peices I have gathered it sounds really strong. I want to read about its cut and dry specs: which block to use, heads, intake, wiring harness, and most of all how much horsepower and torque it is putting out. Has anyone got one in A EA81 body? I will definately make A copy of your suggestions for my reference book that I'm making before I start my build. Your information is very helpful. I didn't know that I would have to notch the frame rails to install A DOHC motor. Things like that are why I made this thread. Its great getting information from people who have been there and done that. We learn from our mistakes and I don't want to make any with my build. My project is A 1985 hatchback that i'm lifting 4". I don't want it to be powerless with the addition of so much more rolling mass. Thanks again! If you have anymore suggestions just shoot them at me.
  21. wHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? cOULD YOU NOTREAD IT? Are you an english major? I can't understand half of the posts wordage on here but tou don't here me complaing. I just like subarus and other people that do also. I am just an old Virginia mountain man. I graduated high school and thats as far as I went. If my posts affend everyone on here, then I appoligize to you good folks. I am here for subaru fun, knowledge, and advice. I am not here 4 GRAMMER 101, i APOLOGIZE 2 THe GooD FOLKS AGAIN 4 MY RUDE CAPTULIZASHUN IN DA MIDDLE Of My SANTENZING ?
  22. It seems that the people that have them are using them. I like the way they look and they are so rare. Somewhere , someone is cleaning out their garage and holding A brand new set that they never installed when they had A Subby and throwing them away !
  23. I would have already tryed another one if I had it. Out of all my parts, thats the one thing I don't have extra. They cost so much that I want to be sure thats the problem. Even then I'll have to wait till payday.
  24. I have three 2.2l motors, maybe I should just keep putting them in as I blow one up. I would probably run out of car , before motors. I have A friend that has A 2.5l block that he has been trying to sell me. Which 2.5l are best to start with? I was told 2000 model because they were S.O.H.C. motors, but if using 2.2l heads why would it matter what block was used ?
