hi, yes 8 times, 1st time we figured that the car is waving right and left, we took the transmission and changed it with another one. 2nd time the transmission was a bit slow to shift on 1st gear and reverse also same waving. 3rd time another transmission still having same problem and the car Jams on AWD. 4th time we took the transmission off and replace the front differential with the old one that used to be on the car when it came from the states. 5th time the differential didn't work on the transmission i don't know the reason, but with a drive test it was noisy like if the differential has no oil in it. 6th time we took off the transmission and try to figure out why the noise. it didn't work 7th time another transmission, still not working on AWD and after 2 days it start lacking after it warms up. 8th time the one that i have on the car now. not with the good ratio cause the car Jams on AWD, we did change the rear gear with another one, the car used to have a gear with 2 big letters painted on top of it: TP, the one that we installed is TM, the mechanic guy said he want to try this time a gear with TR code.it's a big mess i know i started to hate Subaru but i can't i like this Car. i want to fix it, i don't care how much it costs. i can't blame the mechanic guy cause the specs over here are different from the specs in the states. Thank you Regards. Anwar

Thank you GroosGary for your Reply, my outback is an American, it was imported from the US. may be thats why we're having hard time to find the right gear for it. the transmission on it now is an Impreza turbo 2000. i'll try to do the counting and check what it is. lets say it's an 4.11 ratio which gear will fit on it??? Thank you Regards.

Thanks for the valuable information, do you think there is a chart to identify the transmission with the right rear gear or only with the serial No.?? it's a bit late now to open the hood and try to take the serial No of the transmission. i will take it tomorrow and give it back to you. Thanks again for the great help.

Hi There, i had to replace my Automatic transmission on my 1996 outback AWD.it was knocking alot the mechanic Guy suggested to change it. we did the job till now 8 times. he had to get them from used and not new. the last one is for an 2000 impreza, turbo.it works fine but not on AWD i had to put the fuse in the box of FWD. he decided to change the rear gear, it still have the same problem. it vibrates alot on 1st and it jams on AWD. he said we have to find the right back gear for this transmission. i asked him how to do so he said we have to try since there is nothing written that tells you this gear goes with this transmission. can anyone help me how to identify what gear should go with my transmission or how to identify it. Thanks in advance. Regards.

Hi there first thanks for replying actualy its not a piston slap, the noise is in the heads, after the engine warmup the engine sounds normal.the noise started after i did the head gasket.the guy who did the head gasket told me, it will take some time to clear the thin lines in the heads, then the noise will disappear.i don't feel its going to disappear coz i drove almost 1000 miles after the job was done.
