Is there anyone here able to tow an Subaru RX for me? I need an RX towed from southeastern PA to Newark, Delaware (Matt Slap Subaru). If anyone is up to it, please post or send me a PM. I will be looking to have it towed sometime one week from now or a little later. Thanks!

Your name came up no an XT6 site. I am looking for a mechanic (or just someone) that can swap engine and possibly transmission from my wrecked 95 SVX to my 1989 Subaru XT6.
Both are autos and both have 4.44 gears. TomSVX converted my XT6 to 4.44. I just want the 4.44 gear and tranny out of the SVX since I have a Level 10 shift kit on there. Most important is the engine though.
I'm in Delaware! Are you interested?

ea82 turbo power; is it possible???
Myxalplyx replied to soobie_newbie67's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, I actually had to put some type of heat wrap in there so my power steering line would not heat up as much. Had to bend the PS line a bit too. A pain!! But man.....that header/uppipe and downpipe rawks. -

Upgrade your fuel injectors and tune your exhaust gas temperature to be as 'cool' or cooler than stock. Tune your air/fule ratio to be 11.0:1 during heavy load and wide open throttle. That's it! Please let us know how all this goes. -

Oh...and don't forget the mighty WJM and his exploits. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35966&highlight=dyno "234 hp and 312 tq at the crank." That's a LOT of power out of this lightweight, low power vehicle. That's like taking a 300hp STI up to 600hp. -

Hrrmm....so what about this mid-14 second XT turbo? It is not 12-13 second in the 1/4 mile fast but it is fast for an 80's car and quick even by todays standards. Thoughts? I'll take an RX turbo that could pull these times. It would probably be lighter than this XT too. Gawd, I want a fast RX turbo so bad. Fast and reliable. I mean, not just toy with the engine but lighten the car as well. Get a lighter pulley! Get some lighter (hard as hell to find) wheels than stock and make the tire diameter slightly smaller for lower gearing. Stuff like that! Think there's a lot left on the table. The RX I had was fun as hell and I actually didn't have much of any problems out of it...then it just rusted to death. Guess the problems were right around the corner. Ran nicely though. Heck, my wife even kind a liked it and she likes none of my Subarus. The son moon and stars must've matched up or something. -

I'm still confused! What is considered a good flowing head for the time it was made (Late 80's)? How do we know the EA82-T is poor flowing vs a good flowing head at that time? Comparing it to a late model STi isn't fair. For it's time, is it considered a poor flowing or good flowing cylinder head and why? Without a flow bench, is there some characteristic that someone can point out and say, 'See, when this happens, this is how you can tell the EA82-T has a poor flowing cylinder head for a late 80's vehicle'? I haven't seen this anywhere. Sure, it has limitations as far as head gaskets, pistons, etc. But the head design being a limiting factor or poor flowing. How do we know this? -

Oh yeah, what is the bit about the heads not flowing well? I keep reading this but I have not seen any data that supports this. -

Wow! Interesting thread! I'm with Northwet on the cooling. Make sure your cooling system is top notch. I don't experience or know-how as many of the experienced folks here. I do know that the finger points a lot to the radiator. What I'd do? 1) Full tune-up, 2) Oil cooler, 3) Tranny cooler, 4) New radiator, 5) intercooler, Intercooler, INTERCOOLER Northwet mentioned the thread about intake temperatures. (Searched) For the life of me, I could not find it just now. At work so can't search as thorough as I want. It is a MUST read. Great info on just how hot the air is going into your intake without an intercooler. 6) Professional clean your fuel injectors This is a personal one for me. Over and over and over and OVER and OvER.....did I say Over? I keep seeing people say their headgasket fail by #1 ane #3 cylinders. I sent my fuel injectors for my RX turbo and XT6 to RC Engineering to be cleaned. They were numbered before sending them. Both #1 and #3 fuel injectors were in poor condition when compared to the rest of the injectors. Is this the cause of headgasket failures and such by lack of fuel on that side or is this the result of bad cooling and overheating in the #1/#3 cylinder areas? I've no clue! But bad fuel injectors do not help the situation. Get them cleaned before playing with any more power or just get some new ones. The stockers don't flow high (185CC) as it is. This is all for now. -
XT6 injectors are 185cc.

Hello XT6 Nomad and welcome to the site. A gentleman from the Subaru-SVX.net site (TomsSVX) converted my XT6 to have LSD. He was attempting to convert the XT6 to a 3.70 gear to 4.44 gear. He matched up the SVX CV axle to the XT6 CV axle and found they were the same. From --> http://subaruxt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2089&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=75 So if you are looking to do this, it can be done. I can't do it but guys like Gary and the others here could probably do it blindfolded and asleep. Hey Gary, Did you notice any difference in the way your XT6 drives with the LSD installed?

turbo hesitation?
Myxalplyx replied to off-road-knight's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Darn....this is a weird one. I want to say tha this has something to do with your recirculating valve or BOV not venting back to the intake. Thinking that you are getting too much fuel now and the previously metered air is not all getting through your throttle body. Are you running an aftermarket blow off valve? Is it venting to the atmosphere? Thinking more, if you were overboosting earlier and now boost is lower, you can't get away with having excess air being vented. I am probably over-thinking this but that's all I have for now. -
Any one have any pictures of lowered EA82's?

Myxalplyx replied to off-road-knight's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think your car is overboosting. Not sure what is causing it but that RX7 turbo vs whatever is regulating boost pressure seems like the culprit to me. Something tells me you are getting higher boost than you should. An old RX turbo did this same thing when I attempted to regulate the boost manually. It bucked and spitted violently at times. My thinking is that if there was a fuel restriction (Ex: Clogged injectors, fuel pump not flowing enough, filters restricting flow, etc), you would be simply running leaner. Fuel mileage may suffer some and engine damage further down the line. Not the bucking and spitting though. That seems to be from something sudden happening rather than gradual. -
Subaru Leone EA82T running lean
Myxalplyx replied to funktio02's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I suggest a full tune up! When you start the car, it is normal for your air/fuel ratio to read rich. As soon as the car is 'warm', if your air/fuel ratio does not constantly run back and forth, I say you have a bad O2 sensor (or EGO sensor unless this is something different). Anytime I had an air/fuel ratio meter that did not constantly cycle back and forth, from rich to lean to rich again, once it warms up, it was a bad oxygen sensor. Again, never hurts to do a full tune-up and replace all vacuum hoses needlessly. Yep, I said needlessly. If they are cheap to get, just replace the hard ones with fresh, flexible soft ones so you KNOW you aren't going to have a problem with that one for a long, long time. :-p There's no better time I'd like to have peace of mind than in cold weather. Welcome to the site! -

Techworks and Older EA81T
Myxalplyx replied to Myxalplyx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks Gary and WJM..... I'm shocked that there are still uppipes and downpipes in stock. Thought people would've cleared those out years ago and they were pretty much extinct. Weird! -
Does anyone know if the Techworks uppipe and downpipe would fit an older model EA81T? Ex: Let's say an early 80's EA81T automatic?

Man I love this forum. General's got some good points. Remember bro, these types of questions have been asked what seems like 100's of times to some of us. Get your car in tip top shape before changing anything first. Then, start moving slowing WiTHOUT upping the boost. Add an intercooler. That is a HUGE pluse for your ride. Get a used WRX intercooler or something else. You can see I'm a big fan of making sure what you have is running right and secondly keeping things cool. Get those injectors professionally cleaned. I keep seeing older subarus failing headgaskets by pistons #1 and #3. I've had my injectors cleaned by RC Engineering (Sent them out) from my RX turbo and my Subaru XT6. Both my #1 and #3 injectors were in poor shape but they were cleaned and repaired and flowed well. The cars seemed to run fine before sending them out but you just never know. Rule out anything that can cause a problems before trying to gain more horsepower. In doing so, your car will run better and you'll probably 'gain' some horsepower. You could ask around for a Techworks turbokit. I still have mine but I ain't giving it up. Saving it for someone like you who fixed up your ride and then get tired of it. Just installing a Techworks turbokit gained me around 35whp. GT14 turbo, uppipe, downpipe and exhaust. This with an intercooler. But I tried to make sure everything was cool before doing this. Even with the cleaned injectors, it was still running lean in the midrange. Gotta take it slowly! Send WJM a PM. He went boost crazy and got really good numbers out of his stock engine. Others have as well. I never got a chance to turn the boost up before my RX rusted to death but the folks here guided me along very well. Don't take what they say with a grain of salt. It will be painful on your pockets and experience if you do. -

Ask and you shall receive. Since you are leaving though, good luck. I hope it works out for you. I still would like to 'try' to get power out of these motors. In case you peep your head in here, here is what little advice I have to offer. 1) Tune that baby. Make sure your engine is electrically ok (Disty, grounding, spark plugs, wires, etc, 2) Make sure all your cooling is top notch. Oil and water! Good radiator. Good oil/water pumps. No restrictions in passages ways of coolant lines, 3) Make sure you have NO fueling issues. Good, high flow fuel pump. Get better flowing injectors or have your stock ones professionally cleaned. Start off at stock boost and monitor your air/fuel ratio and Exhaust Gas Temperature religiously. Take it up one boost at a time. Keep your EGTs no warmer than it would be when it was at stock boost with stock exhaust, intake, etc. That is all! -

Don't get it!! Are you surprised it lasted this long with the said mods or surprised these type of mods took place 6yrs ago? -
Thank you for your reply. So I know if I were to contact Charlie and have a set made up, all I have to do is order up the exact same thing you have. Once they arrive, all have to do is remove my stock injectors and install the ones that I ordered in their place. That is it! Plug-N-Play! Great!
