  1. BTW: Here's a good article for some of you folks to read. It's a test of boost controllers conducted by Sport Compact Car Magazine. It's one of the reasons why I purchased this simple, cheap but affective manual boost controller. http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/tech/0207scc_boostcontrol/ Caboobaroo, The one you purchased is in there as well.
  2. I feel a bit embarrassed but I don't know how to read these maps. I better whip out my Corky Bell book and read again. :-\
  3. Car: 1988 1.8ltr RX Turbo (Manual/FT4WD) Mods: Autozone Cone Filter Garner Pulley Techworks Header GT17 Ball Bearing Turbocharger Techworks Downpipe 2.5" Cat, 2.5" Custom exhaust, 2.5" Flowmaster All runs done on at 6-7psi. Did 4 runs to compare before and after intercooler results, in both directions. South Direction 0-60: 11.80 1/4 mile: 18.53 @ 81.53mph 0-60: 10.8 1/4 mile: 18.06 @ 83.3mph North Direction 0-60: 11.02 1/4 mile: 18.20 @ 85.6mph 0-60: 11.34 1/4 mile: 18.61 @ 82.3mph Average 0-60: 11.24 1/4 mile: 18.35 @ 83.2mph My previous average with only intercooler, garner pulley and K&N air filter was at 6-7psi was: Average 0-60: 13.50 1/4 mile: 19.66 @ 76.6mph Average Improvement--> 0-60 by 2.26 seconds 1/4 mile by 1.13 seconds and Trap speed by 6.6 seconds Please remember I'm a terrible driver/launcher of a manual trannied car. I taught myself 2 months ago. At least I'm terrible all around. I don't want to fry my clutch or break my tranny launching hard. So I get a pretty good bog on all my runs. At least it's a consistent bog. I'm paying most of my attention to my trap speeds. Your results will vary. *Based on my trap speed difference, I'll guesstimate I'm making around 29hp more than I previously was*
  4. I am using the old red LED display one. Actually, I'm getting ready to leave right now (4:24a.m. in the morning) to do some test runs. 2 runs one way and 2 the other. BRB....
  5. Hey Brian, The MBC cost me $12.00 (not including shipping). http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7944165459&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT Garner, what you said makes sense. I'll test it out later today.
  6. Lots of cool pics on that site. http://www.ausubaru.com/bybbbq2004/images/100_2875_JPG.jpg
  7. Hello, I know this is as simple as putting some of your shoes on but I'm the one who needs 'EA82T for dummies'. I purchased a manual boost controller sometime back. I think I asked Will how to install it but lost the instructions. So instead of being selfish, I decided to ask the group just so all the timid modders can hide in the darkness while reading this thread while I get flamed. Anyways, here's a pic of the Ebay manual boost controller that I want to install. It even comes with instructions that seem simple and precise. Here's my dillema: I'm not sure if I hooked up all of my vacuum hoses right after installing all the Techworkds (TWE) parts. The wastegate has a vacuum hose going to the passenger side shock tower mounted thingy and a vacuum hose is coming from that back to the 'wastegate valve' if that's what you call it. I'm assuming the thing I have the wastegate vacuum hoses connected to is a pressure sensor of some sort or pressure something. *If it's just for the turbo light (turbo sensor), I'm going to feel like an idiot here...sorry* Anyways, where do I hook up the manual boost controller in between these parts? Do I hook it up before the sensor thing or after? After installing this, I think I'm done for now. I'll crank it up to 10-11psi and perhaps go to the dyno tomorrow if I can get some sleep. I was not going to do this until I cleaned my injectors and got an EGT gauge but something crazy happened today. I left the dealership and for one second in 1st gear, the car shot up to 19psi of boost. *(I had just got my exhaust leak fixed)* As you can imagine, I almost giggled like a school girl while a feeling of panic shot through me, when I looked at the boost gauge. I knew something was wrong by how the car threw me back in the seat. It never did it again after that and I don't know why it did it in the first place. Currently, the car runs steadily between 6-7psi of boost. I want to take it up to 10-11psi. Any help would be appreciated.
  8. I'm the idiot and I didn't add. I was thinking like I was still an outsider in awe drooling over everyone elses EA82Ts. 1988 RX Turbo (Manual/FT4WD) Mods: K&N air filter Sparco Intercooler Garner Pulley Techworks Header and Downpipe GT17 Ball Bearing Turbocharger 2.5" Maremont Catalytic Coverter Custom 2.5" Meineke Exhaust 2.5" Flowmaster Muffler Hopefully an Ebay Manual Boost controller by tonight/tomorrow. :-p
  9. Cost me around $400 for a downpipe-back custom exhaust piping. I already had the cat converter.
  10. Yeah, I'm only boosting 6psi as well. :-\ Well, this explains everything.
  11. They are brand new O.E. gaskets that I torqued down to Techworks specs. I 'shaved' the gaskets so the 10X1.25" bolts could be screwed in. I'll fiddle with it soon enough. Maybe I should've just left the stock gaskets alone and did what you did.....since it worked for you. I was just trying to follow instructions. *sniffle* Even still, I have to install the manual boost controller, RRFPR and possibly get the fuel injectors clean. I got this feeling something is going to go 'boom' if I don't. After the exhaust fix though, I'll probably run up to the dyno shop. I want to grow up to make hp/torque just like you Will.
  12. Garner, I like the 1st pic the best. The 2nd pics underside spoiler makes it look like a boat with wheels for some reason. If the 'shark' mobile was painted blue, it'd look similare to your 2nd pic.
  13. The catalytic converter from Autozone was $56.99.http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=29648&highlight=Aftermarket+Converter The Flowmaster muffler was $82.99. Thanks for liking it. I don't know if there is any increase/decrease in hp/torque or mpg. I haven't tested anything. I still have an exhaust leak at the header/exhaust port connection. I'll try to get to this tomorrow (work is killing me). The 'straight-pipe' you are referring I think goes like this: downpipe-piping-cat converter-piping-muffler-exhaust tip. The black paint is high temperature paint that helps keep in the heat in the exhaust. I have no idea if it will prevent or if it'll aide in rusting. I'm hoping it helps to prevent it. Yeah, this car's underside is a rust bomb. I'm going to spray it down with rustoleum. I'm not sinking any $$ into body work.
  14. I just wanted to document some parts I got to complete an exhaust I just had put on my EA82T. I'm feeling really good at how it came out. This is mainly a picture post. The exhaust has 2.5" piping from the downpipe to a 2.5" catalytic converter (purchased at Autozone) to a 2.5" in and out Flowmaster muffler. Meineke mufflers provided and installed the Flowmaster 40 Series muffler. Meineke also spray painted the whole downpipe back exhaust section with black high temp paint. Man.....I love the look of it. Looks like it means business. I'll post a pic with the cat converter and the Flowmaster muffler part numbers. Cat Converter was purchased from Autozone while the muffler was at the Meineke shop. Enjoy the pics. This is Frank in the background. He did the custom pipe job. It's not mandrel bends. I'm cheap! I'm sure it'll be very effective regardless. I'm happy! Note how the Flowmaster muffler is flipped to an upright position to clear the rear piping. Not bad! Exhaust isn't as low at it may appear to be. I thought that was a little clever. I did what you guys said in another thread and had the muffler piping extended past the bumper a bit. It worked out nicely. The exhaust system as a whole is QUIET. You have to really get on it to hear some ruckess. Just the way I like it. Thanks for everything guys. I'm still blown away by the plain jane dark charcoal look of the exhaust. No bling, no shine or chrome. Just straight up business. I've never seen anything like this before but I'm sure a lot of you have. I'm always down for something a little different. Ok...off to bed. BTW: I have an exhaust leak at the exhaust port/header section due to me only having 3 bolts per side instead of 4. The 4th bolts on the sides don't line up. The Techworks manual pointed this out. The bolts have to be put on a specific way. I'm going to have to redo it. You may get lucky like Will did by just using the 2 stock header bolts, per exhaust port. Good luck!
  15. I just took a video of my car but it was completely dark. At least the sound is there. It's of a Flowmaster muffler. I sent the video/sound file to Spanky. I'm just awaiting a hosted link. I LOVE the sound. It actually sounds close to stock while driving. It's pretty quite and stealthy. I posting up some pics of the whole exhaust system in another thread. I'm pretty happy about it.
  16. If you have an aftermarket muffler on your ride, can you post up a sound file so we can all hear it? Tell us what model Subaru you have and what mods you have on it also. That may be helpful. Also, is there anyone that can host a video clip for me? I want to put up a short video (less than 5mb, maybe around 1-2mb) of the exhaust sound. I now have a 2.5" Flowmaster muffler installed. I have yet to see or hear it (I'm at work). Details will come sometime later this evening hopefully. I did what you folks said and asked for the piping coming from the muffler to be extended a little extra past the muffler. The exhaust shop (Meineke) said they couldn't believe how quiet the car was. *Perfect* Unfortunately, I still have an exhaust leak at the header/exhuast port connection. I only have 3 bolts per side. I need to somehow get the 4th bolt on each side to get no leaks. The gaskets are brand new. Thats all! Thanks to Spanky Pete, here's the link to how my Flowmaster muffler sounds. It was dark outside so that's why the video quality is the way it is. http://www.twistednipple.com/cars/Flowmaster.MOV Mods: Garner Pulley, Cone Air filter, Techworks header and downpipe, GT17 turbo, 2.5" catalytic converter, custom 2.5" exhaust, 2.5" In/Out Flowmaster muffler.
  17. Awe man! I did see smoke where they contacted each other yesterday when I started it. I've been prying and bending trying not to overbend, kink or put a hole in the ps lines. It's gettin' serious now (Flexing Popeye arms). Aight.....thanks!
  18. What could someone expect if their power steering line was in contact with their header?
  19. I just got into an 'argument' with the sales guy at Autozone. He practically begged me not to get the Cherry Bomb muffler they had (which was about $25.00). He said it would be LOUD and OBNOXIOUS. He stated I'd be better off getting a muffler at the shop finishing off my exhaust. Hrrmmm! I trust you guys opinion. I'll know what's up by Friday when I get it all done up.
  20. A-Dog, What did I tell you about that pic? Stop showing it! I'm off to get one now. Thanks!
  21. Somebody is going to find out how fun a turbo'd XT6 is, hopefully here. And they'll share all the fun with us poor folks. As for the turbo'd SVX, it's been done more than once. Here's one currently........ http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21278 Here is the write up about it-------> http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/771596
  22. You know something? I just came to the realization on my way home from work that his isn't going to be some show car. It's rusted to hell on the bottom of it. I'm going to go back to Autozone today and get that Cherry Bomb I was looking at previously. Time to get this 'ish' done and over with. I just didn't want it to be too loud. Thanks!
