better breathing turbo with catless downpipe
Myxalplyx replied to Skip's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah it's old but it was without closure! When I research stuff, I want closure darn it. Maybe Skip took and sold his header design to some company in Australia and now he's living pig rich off the profits. -
better breathing turbo with catless downpipe
Myxalplyx replied to Skip's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
*Old Thread Bump* What ever happened to producing this downpipe and all? Seems like everything just trailed off just when people was getting really excited about it. :-\ -
BOV sounds and video thread

You have to 'right click and save'. I just tested it out at work. I hope it works. -
? for those with pyrometers
Myxalplyx replied to stngllhm's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
This is good to know. Thanks for posting. Where do you have your EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) probe tapped in? This would be a good post/thread for EGT comparisons. I won't be raising the boost without an EGT installed so comparing it to my baseline as well as others would be a good start. I've always wanted to know what temperature our cars run stock. Whatever I get stock, that is the temperature I try to shoot for despite any other mods I do to the car since that temperature is considered safe. BTW: What modifications do you have on your car, if any? -
This is the same one I have in my Impreza and XT6. I'm planning on getting a CRX dual gauge pod for the RX as well. I purchase mine from Summit Racing, part# ATM-20400.

BOV sounds and video thread
Myxalplyx replied to Myxalplyx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
New video is up with the BOV hooked up right this time. BTW: I can only make quicktime movies since that's what the Kodak Easyshare camera I use came with. Sorry guys! -
This is just a word of warning. I recently purchased an EGR valve or Purge valve assembly Thursday from thepartsbin.com for a 1988 RX turbo. It's part# B7079-60044. I love shopping at thepartsbin. However, this EGR valve assembly is not the correct one for the RX turbo. A picture is worth a thousand words but I've been posting a thousand pics lately so I'm trying to tone down. Anyway, if you look at our stock EGR valve, it has two openings in which you can connect vacuum hoses too. The one from thepartsbin does as well but it has another piece with a filter like part extending outward towards the throttle body. Nothing seems to connect to it. It just seems like a vent of some sort. Also, the end plug on this purge assembly is different than the stock plug. It will not be able to plug into your stock EGR connector. What I ended up having to do is cut the plug off of the new unit. Then I connected the wiring and plug off of my old unit to the new unit. The vent piece comes right up on the throttle body but it seems like it's barely ok there. Just a word of warning as there may be other places that sell similar units. I may take a pic anyway so you know what I'm talking about when I refer to the 'vent' piece that extends to the throttle body. That's all.

Man, I DO NOT want to be having any vacuum leaks in this car. Easy finds in my XT6 and Impreza but this...THIS car.....NOOOoooooo! Good luck!

more efi madness(she runs, and drives!)
Myxalplyx replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Place your bets! *Predictions* I predict mid 15 second 1/4 mile runs at approximately 84-86mph. [On Excellent runs] If you like burning rubber or have problems with tire slippage, I predict low-mid 16 second runs at approximately 82-84mph. There you have it. -
Ok...thanks! Looks like a nice setup. I likey mah defrosta doh. :-p

Intercooler piping question...
Myxalplyx replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I don't have a WRX intercooler but this is the place where I got my silicone tubing and piping. *Vertex Industries* http://www.vertexnow.com/car.html They just happen to be a mile or so down the street from me.l -
Did you tap any electrical wiring so you can see your gauge at night? If so, where did you tap? Pics?
-
Ah, sounds like an idea. Wouldn't that change the 'noise breaker' to a 'noise enhancer' though? *PFFFfffffttt*

Has anyone here noticed a difference in power/torque after they replace the piping pre-turbo with another pipe? If so, what diameter piping you changed to and what change did you noticed? It doesn't look restrictive but it is 'mashed' slightly where the piping is closest to the turbo. I now many have changed the air filter. It's the piping that I'm interested in. Also, what is the purpose of the plastic 'handle bar' on the intake? I'm assuming it has to do with affecting sound waves coming from the throttle body not affecting the maf sensor readings but if that's the case, the turbo itself should affect the sound resonance. :-\

This is nothing new I know. This may sound funny but I have to ask. Has anyone jacked up their car and have the jack go through the floor due to rust? I ask because the jacking points on my RX look dangerous. I haven't checked all around just yet but I know one point I was looking at the other day, I was able to mistakenly push my finger through it. The last thing I'd want is to jack up the car and get under it, only to have it give away because the jacks went through some rust. Has anyone experienced this? I'm just curious!

Updated oddcomp's MS n' EDIS fuel/DIS
Myxalplyx replied to a topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Are there any of you on the East Coast (Like Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania or Maryland) area that has/will be getting this and are willing to work with other MS&EDIS installers/users/tuners? -
why me god, why always me?!?
Myxalplyx replied to subyrally's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, it's what forced me to purchase a new car. It puzzles me why I not only got one but two extra problems to go with it (RX turbo and another XT6). Subbie Crack! :-\ Somebody help me! -
I didn't know it was common practice to break one of these things. I took mine out this morning but I only have 1 minute to go before I get to work so..... Since I live at work, I don't have time to go to a junkyard. So, I'll order up a new one but try to search for the cheapest one. So this is an EGR solenoid I understand? Does anyone here have the part# for this thing? BTW: I misplaced all of my factory service manuals. I think my wife moved them and she's not admitting it. Arrrghhh!

Does this look dirty to you?
Myxalplyx replied to Phaedras's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It's normal! Oil fumes coming from the crankcase from blowby can do that. If it's not cleaned for a while, it can tend to look like that. No worry! Wipe it clean and check it out after driving it a couple thousand miles. This is after doing what WJM suggested first. I'm sure everyone has seen something like this at one time or another. If it was really dark black and oily (like wet and practically dripping) then it would be a cause for concern. I just took my intake off tonight as well and checked out my maf sensor. Does this look dirty to you?
