  1. Got an RX turbo home from this post: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10072&page=3 It looks different now. I had to change one of the front rims because it had a big dent from road rash before it was sold. So I put on two rims I had in the basement. Man, I'm so happy. I finally have a reason to be hanging out here with you guys. Here are a couple of pics I took of it this morning.
  2. I know this thread is like 3 years old but I am looking for information that this thread pertains too. I am currently in the market for new tires on an RX. I always have shopped at Tirerack but they do not have any tires for 13" rims (or none I could find). Does anyone know where I can shop for 13" tires for an RX? I want 13's even though I know 14s and 15s are more so available. I read earlier in this thread that 13" tires can make the tires break loose somewhat during hard acceleration. I rather this than toasting my tranny since I'll be trying to learn to race this car from time to time at the strip (manual tranny). I really don't know how to drive a manual and am currently teaching myself. That's another story! Again, this car is primarily for transportation and occasional racing (dragstrips for testing purposes and fun). All I want to know is where can I get some 13" tires online. Thanks!
  3. There you have it. Also, like RallyRuss says, I'd check the O2 sensor. As a matter of fact, I'd just replace it and get a new cat converter on there. Money pending, just do your basic tune up also to eliminate other possibilites. Spark plugs, disty, rotor, air filter, etc. Before testing the car, run it over 50mph for at least a minute. I bet after this, you'd pass with flying colors. Good luck!
  4. Is this one of you guys Subaru that may have been stolen, shipped over seas and sold on the black market for major $$$$?
  5. Hell Yeah! Um, does this mean I'll be getting the September issue 6-8 weeks from late September? :-\
  6. Darn it! I just subscribed today since I just read about this in another thread about 2 minutes ago. So I guess this means I won't get issue #2 until January since it takes 6-8 weeks to deliver. I'm going to get my issue #1, you hear me. Or you ALL will pay dearly.
  7. This was was involved in an explosion and that's the worst it looks? I mean, the rims don't even look bent and the tires still are together. The doors look at little twisted and the bumper but that's about it.
  8. I have a quick question that I hope someone can answer for me before I get off work today. I need to bring an RX home. Problem is, it has a bent rim on the front driver's side. So I will be putting on two wheels with the the same type of tires on the front of the car. However, the tires of the front wheels are of a different brand (and I think diameter) of the rear wheels. It's a 4WD model but an RX 4WD isn't full time is it? My question (or 2nd one) is can I get away with driving the car like this temporarily? I plan on getting 4 new tires for it in the near future. Thanks!
  9. Will a T3/T04E turbo (like those Ludespeed turbo kits for the EJ series engine) fit on the stock EA82T exhaust? Just curious!
  10. Now I'd like to try it out even more on my automatics. Was this reversed psychology? Does anyone here have any base maps for the XT6? How about an XT6 with minor mods?
  11. Really? So how would a person with limited to no mechanical skill go about this? Are you saying I can get me an EA81 powered car then with a price of $1000, I can purchase an EJ22 engine and have it put in? If so, where?
  12. Not on this site but at NASIOC a while back, someone was making an intake like to to sell. It fell through because of fitment issues but it seemed to work pretty well.
  13. Wow! This is interesting. I don't mean to beat on a dead horse but I didn't realize that increasing the airflow with the exhaust/intake would override the wastegate's 'purging' ability. I guess this is the same problem some of the WRX folks have when they get some aftermarket intakes and run lean. I just never really thought twice about it. Wouldn't a 'better' wastegate and BOV remedy the situation? I already know more fuel would take care of it but just curious. Thanks!
  14. I'm assuming you are running more than the stock boost (7psi or so) on your setup to be running out of flow ability. Is this right? Being ignorant, I'd normally assume you are running out of flow ability with the intake and exhaust mods at stock boost. Is this what you meant?
  15. My two cents! I don't own any 1.8ltr turbo's but two XT6s. On one of the XT6s, I tested the stock intake vs stock intake with snorkus cut out and routed to my front foglight vs intake piping and cone filter drawing air from the HOT engine bay. Stock air box with a stock air filter would run in 16.6s-16.7's @77-79mph. Stock air box with stock filter (or no air filter, same results) and snorkus cut and routed out to the foglight produced 16.5-16.6s @81mph. Highway passes had leaner air/fuel ratios than stock and car didn't need to downshift to get it moving as it did previously at certain mph points. 3" piping to maf to K&N cone filter produced 16.4s @ 82-83mph (Mostly 82mph). If the cone filter was surrounded with cardboard, with only an opening on the snorkel part, I had gotten 83mph. Despite the really hot temperatures underhood, the car still ran faster than it did with the stock air box and snorkus routed to the passenger fog light. Mind you, I tested with the stock airbox on 87 octane and 89 octane with the 3" piping to avoid detonation/pinging. I just wanted to point out that even though your car may be pulling in HOT underhood heat, it doesn't necessarily mean it's going to run slower or poorly. I used to believe this as well. I'm guessing the better airflow through the K&N air filter and 3" piping more than offsetted the hot air being pulled in so much so that it performed better than the stock airbox (even with the snorkus modified) pulling cooler air. Foglight, snorkus cutout, 2.5" piping to Maf to 3" piping to 2.75" throttle body(stock) will be tested next when breaks are fixed. The intake setup is done.
  16. Hey Guys, I have this silly idea floating in my head about an XT6 turbo kit and I just need some input to know how doable something crazy like this is. I have a 1.8ltr turbo header in my garage. I don't know what Subaru it's off of or what year, just that it's a turbo header. Here's what I wanted to do. A friend from another board may be sending me his XT6 header. What I wanted to do is have the inlet of the 1.8ltr turbo header cut off on both sides and have an XT6 header exhausts port end put on both sides. I may need two XT6 headers because I'd need the drivers side to face the front of the engine as it's welded to the 1.8ltr turbo header. From here, I simply wanted to mate this header up to a Legacy turbo, stock downpipe and custom 2.5" - 3" exhaust from there. I'd have to have the intake fabricated from the inlet to the turbo and turbo to throttle body. I'm sure I can find and scavenge parts for this. Once I get it all together and it fits pretty good with the exhaust piping, perhaps I could upgrade other parts (Like TWE). Does something like this seem like it's within grasp or should I lay off the crack and seek counseling?
  17. U can contact: Anthony`s Suzuki Subaru Kelowna 2670 N Hwy 97 Kelowna V1X 4J4 250-861-6163 I'm at work so I can't give you the part# right off hand. They sell them pretty cheaply though. Edit: I checked the link above and yep, everything you need seems to be there. Part#31266GA340 Also, here's another nifty page on changing the brushes if you get confused or hung up. http://www.xt6.net/ps_pump_repair.htm
  18. You folks REALLY should be calling these guys up. http://www.ramengines.com/ From talking to a guy on the XT6 site who stopped by and from the conversation I had today with 'Ron' there, I'm speechless. You turbo folks definitely should be calling them up for inside engine work to go with your TWE parts. *sigh* Seems they have a lot of knowledge about our engines. That's all I'm going to say for now. Hopefully I'll have some numbers to and some of you in the future. WJM.......call them if you get a chance.
  19. I know EXACTLY how you feel. I'm far from a mechanic as well. A simple timing belt change becomes a day in advanced physics class....that is until I've done it a couple of times. Good luck on whatever you end up doing. I have to change the brake pads and caliper on one of my XT6s. It's been sitting this way for weeks. Battery died while sitting and ECU started freaking out for some reason. Don't get me started on my nice list of things-to-do-did since I've owned it. One reason I got it is so I can work on it and learn more about cars in general. I'm learning more by the day (mostly typing...I need to get my arse underneath the car more). Take care!
  20. Wow! Now that's what I called tuning for low end torque. Good tuning!
  21. This is cool! Thanks! I have two different intakes on both of my XT6s but just in case I feel like tooling around with another idea, I know I can use this maf piece so I was curious. I noticed the square vs round hole as well. I wonder how that would affect flow velocity but maybe that's asking for too much. It'd be cool if it could fit. Man, I need an EA81-T or 2-T to play with.
